Looks like it's fixed on my Nokia, thanks.

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

I don't suppose there's been any progress on this, has there? It's making it difficult for me to keep track of PbPs during the day.

Thod, I just remembered I said I'd give you my email address in this thread, so you can send me that chronicle sheet from OddCon.

Not to be a spoilsport, but I'm pretty sure that 3000 years is a little longer than a week.

But that aside, I'm sure that this ancient wizard will be suitably grateful to the PCs, and offer them positions as favoured servants... or unwilling thralls, whichever they prefer.

You're right, those where +4 LA characters so Alderthane had 4 levels of Adept and Luff was a Pixie, plus Al was a Cleric/Druid which is against the two caster classes rule you've got this time so that wouldn't work either... might be fun for them to make special guest appearances though.

I'm actually considering an awakened mouse magus if I don't stick with Zeltirina, (possibly another employee of Baba Svetlana, we didn't get much chance to explore that angle last time,) please could you post the stats for white mice?

My thoughts is, that magic missile would be considered a 0 level spell ONLY for adjusting its final level when applying a meta magic feat to it. But after applying Merciful Spell, you would not add a level, since Merciful Spell doesn't add a level, therefore magic missile would be adjusted to a 1st level spell. It doesn't revert to 0 level in this instance.

Sorry, I'm not following your logic here... it clearly says that it reduces the spell's actual level by one for determining the final adjusted level. So the final adjusted level will be (1-1)+0=0. EDIT: unless you're saying that the trait doesn't apply at all to Merciful Spell, since that metamagic feat doesn't adjust the level, I could see that.

Of course I still don't think it works since a cantrip isn't necessarily the same thing as a 0 level spell.

Either way, unlimited merciful magic missles isn't that bad, the real problem starts when you get Magi spellstriking merciful shocking grasp every round.

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

You've definitely earned it Rob, well done!

This is the list of those I've not played, minus those played by PeteZero:

Season 1
Scenario #43: The Pallid Plague

Season 2
Scenario #2-13: Murder on the Throaty Mermaid
Scenario #2-17: Shades of Ice - Part 2: Exiles of Winter
Scenario #2-19: Shades of Ice - Part 3: Keep of the Huscarl King

Season 3
Scenario #3-05: Tide of Twilight
Scenario #3-07: Echoes of the Overwatched
Scenario #3-09: The Quest for Perfection - Part 1: The Edge of Heaven

I'm thinking of going with a Numerian flavoured witch for a character. Do you know if the First Steps trilogy begins with the characters already members of the Society? The background I've got in mind involves having been an initiate at the Grand Lodge, but it can be tweaked to fit without too much difficulty.

No, with four chances at 25%, it's still only 68.4%.

Try rolling 4d4 a few times to see how many times you actually roll at least one 4, it won't be 100% of the time.

Is there a limitation on playing scenarios with the same characters at the same time? My friend and I were at PaizoCon UK 2009.

We're limited to playing our characters in only one scenario at a time, which is why it's pretty much mandatory to play PbP games with a dedicated character, since you can't play that same character in an off-line game until the PbP is over. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to schedule a break around PaizoconUK 2012 so that those of us attending might get a game in person.

I've been at all the UK Paizocons, so we might have bumped into each-other. I don't think we were on the same table though; if I remember correctly, at that convention we kept the same groups and rotated between GMs.

@Ravenath: To begin with, we'll run a game at a time. If we can handle multiple game threads at once, then we'll ramp up slowly. Level 1 characters with a couple exp points is no problem, as long as you clearly outline which modules you have already played to prevent any legality issues in the future. Multi-part scenarios will be run in order, and probably by the same GM.

If we want to run multiple games side by side, they can't be with the same characters, but it would certainly be a good idea to have two games if there are more players interested than would fit onto one 'table'.

Nostrus wrote:

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

I'd be interested in this, the last time I tried PFS on the boards people started disappearing after a couple of games, but it was good while it lasted.

I'm happy to take my turn GMing, I found that the PFS modules were a really good fit for PbP.

Character-wise, I've got a bunch of ideas for new characters floating around, so I'll choose the one to fit with the rest of the group.

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

Mike Schneider wrote:

You mean leave the module?

Well, I guess that's an option.

(Note that there's no intrinsic reason the Wild Rager couldn't be an archer barbarian who'll just gun down each next-closest "creature" after dropping the last.)

No, I mean be beyond 15' of the barbarian.

You're right that an archer wild rager could be an option for someone who wanted to abuse the system... but I think that any player who goes out of their way to ensure that they'll be able to attack their party members would fall under the disruptive player description and be handled that way. I don't think there's a need to remove an option entirely because some people can't follow the don't be a jerk rule.

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

Mike Schneider wrote:

I get the impression that whomever built this class was under the assumption that the first clause of the phrase, "For the remainder of her current turn, she attacks the nearest creature...," represented an impediment on the destructive potential (to allies) of the class ability. -- But as demonstrated above, this is severely not the case; as it is easy to get a massive number of attacks and to get the reach and/or Enlarge to deploy them.

In a typical PFS module room/dungeon fight, it is likely that a barbarian build will have a lot of attacks and have at least 10' reach (both absolutely by mid-level is not right away at low level). A Wild Rager with half the party under her melee threat will continue to attack PC ally after PC ally until out of attacks for that "current turn".

So the party makes sure to be out of the barbarian's reach before they get a full attack... so long as an enemy isn't starting the combat within reach, there's at least one round where they'll only get a single attack (unless they take cleaving finish, of course, but by the time that's an option, a one shot kill shouldn't be an issue against anyone who's willing to stand near the enemy).

That said... if you're playing your alignment "right," then you're probably already within one step of your deity. Unless you're a heretic, and since that type of player choice should probably come with some in-world repercussions that are beyond the scope of a massive org play campaign to address on a player by player level... yeah, it's a good thing.

I'm pretty sure that the heretic archetype is allowed in PFS :P.

In any case, by "within one step", I read it more along the same lines as the inquisitor rules, whereby you must be within one step of your deity along either the good-evil axis, or the law-chaos axis. So anything but directly opposed is fine, including LG followers of Asmodeus and Cayden Cailean.

Well, if the primary healer doesn't show up, I could switch out fighter for oracle, though that would go against your no arcane/divine mix rule.

nightflier wrote:

Wow. That's a great story. Although, I think that it would be questionable if Sable Company would accept an invalid. But, your concept is very interesting and I would love to see it in play if it weren't for one problem: The continent of Norgir, where you will end up, is the place ravaged by ten thousand years long war against Hell. Dead magic zones are not rare at all. If you should enter one of those - and you most probably will - your character would become not only burden to the rest of the party, but autokill as well.

I would suggest that you go with that concept, but slightly modified . Perhaps your character could be Hellknight Signifier, sent to infiltrate the Sable Company? Or beautiful elf from Kyonin, noble woman exiled for some reason? As mysterious as deadly?

I love the concept, and you can count on it being accepted, but you'll have to change the background.

There is also the fact that she is not high enough level to ride hippogriff anyway.

How about just a slight modification: we could say that the binding ritual has temporarily repaired the damage to her spine, but that for every 24 hours she goes without summoning her eidolon she suffers 1 point of Dex drain, which is restored at a rate of 1 point each hour the eidolon is summoned?

It would still cause problems with extended journeys into dead magic zones, but it wouldn't be immediately crippling. As for the hippogriff, I figured that since it is purely a background thing, it doesn't really matter if she's got a class feature that grants it, you don't need to be high level to simply ride a hippogriff, just to get one as an animal companion.

If you wanted to incorporate one of your suggestions too, rather than Auxarion being involved in the Sable Company, he might be a Hellknight Signifier whose price for performing the ritual is for Zeltirina to feed information back to him.

Okay, I've finally got an idea together:

Zeltirina was born to fly. Ever since she was a girl climbing the spires of Korvosa just to feel the wind blowing against her face, she knew that it was the sky where she belonged.

Her graduation from the Endrin Academy was the proudest day of her life, and her happiest was the first day she rode Alize up into the clouds, knowing for the first time the glorious freedom of flight. For two years the pair patrolled the skies above Korvosa, hippogriff and rider, and served the Sable Company well, but all of that came to an abrupt end.

One rainy night, the half-elven girl had found herself and her squad in a heated aerial skirmish with a rogue arcanist. After slashing and clawing through swarms of summoned fiends, the magician was in her sights, it seemed it was all over... and it was, though not in the way she had imagined, for he had one last trick up his sleeve, unleashing a fiery fury against her that consumed the life of her faithful and beloved mount, and left her falling, unconscious, to the hard cobblestone hundreds of feet below.

When she woke, several weeks later, she was surprised to be alive, though the relief of survival was quickly replaced by horror when she attempted to rise; the fall had shattered her spine, leaving her paralysed from the neck down. This combined with the news of Alize's fate left the girl disconsolate, barely accepting the food and drink brought to her. This continued, her life a blurry haze, for what seemed an eternity, until she found herself with a visitor.

Melthane Auxarion, a skilled and ambitious conjurer working with an elite and secretive branch of the Sable Company, had an offer for her. He promised that he could let her walk once more, move freely as she once had done... all that was required was to bind her body to the otherworldly essence of an outsider. Had she been in her right mind, she may have had doubts about such an arrangement, but in her grief-stricken state, she readily agreed to his terms.

Mechanically, I'm thinking of a Half-elf Summoner(Synthesist)/Fighter, with a dexterity score of 0. This would leave her paralysed while her Eidolon was not summoned, so to make it work would you be okay with removing the somatic components of the summoning ritual?

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

Nightflier, would this homebrew world be the same as the one containing Kaledun?

Would you be open to me playing a Stonewarden from Rite Publishing's 'In the Company of Gargoyles'? I'm thinking of either a Stonewarden/Oracle of Battle for the sergeant spot, or perhaps Stonewarden/Rogue since Black Dow is already interested in playing an Oracle.

From a background point of view, I think it could make sense for him to be bound to protect either the unit, or the commander.

rolls:
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6) + 6 = 18
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13

Yep, I'd go so far as to say such items disintegrate entirely as the final charge is used, except for the fact I really like the possibility of re-enchanting them. Seems to me that the best way of handling this is to have the use of charges consume the valuable materials of the item, gradually replacing them with some base metal, only to have the re-enchantment ritual restore it to its former glory.

Since you could sell the jewelry/gems for full value, there's no difference from a balance point of view, and personally I think it's a lot more flavorful to use the masterfully crafted necklace worth 1,500gp as part of the cost than just selling it and buying 1,500gp worth of generic arcane components.

The spell lists later in the book only list those spells contained within the APG.

Apply this logic to a store, is it necessary to put locks on your doors? If you didn't, they could come in at any time, browse and pay for product without you having to sit and wait at the store. They might even pay you extra for the privilege. Problem though is that it just takes one bad person to clear your inventory.

You can't give some benefits to the good customers without leaving yourself completely unprotected against the bad.

While I'm not saying this is relevant to PDF security, the village shop near where I live has a good deal of the items for sale in an unlocked building well out of sight of the owner, and similarly the nearby farms tend to leave some of their produce next to the road with just a price sign and a bucket to collect payment. I don't like the idea of making them automatically "Chronicle 0" though. If one of these options came out and I really thought it fit one of my characters, it would suck if I realized that I wouldn't be able to give to the character that I want it for.

I don't think it would be entirely necessary for it to be a chronicle 0, I only mentioned it that way in my earlier question because traits are typically taken at first level. The Additional Traits feat, and non-trait 'unlockables', would mean that using unnumbered chronicles to track access might work just as well.

Taldor (Pathfinder Superscriber)

I'm pretty much neutral on the whole idea; I really like the idea of promoting the fiction line through PFS (after all, the more people who buy the books, the more books are likely to be published!) but when I first saw the title of the blog I thought "Wait, what? That makes no sense."

Having read the chronicle, it started to grow on me, but given people's negative reaction to the idea of buying the novel giving an in game benefit to a character, I'm not sure if it works all that well.

For those of you set against this, how would you feel if instead of the boons, the chronicle gave access to unique traits linked to the story for new characters (or possibly through the Additional Traits feat), and just the item access for established characters?
