I'm okay either way, though we seem to be doing fine. I do agree it will be difficult to introduce someone at this stage and once we leave the prison will probably be the best time.
You will be the best judge of this as the GM, but if you feel we can carry on without adding anyone I would prefer that.

Eric Erebus |

No worries, my work computer doesn't have java script and such. So, basically, even if I wanted to, I can't edit the map or look behind the blue lanes. I can at least look at the map in its current form.

DM Aku |

I'll wait until saturday. If she don't send at least a smoke signal, I'll consider her off the game, and get a way to remove both DMPC (Marsella and Lyza) from the game.
Also, I would like to say I really like the way you guys post. It's fun to see how your char thinks and do things. Keep it up :D

Nahia |

I hope Lyza comes back. : /
And thank you. I do have to say that I am quite enjoying how everyone is playing myself. : )

Zerik |

Yep, this has quickly become my favourite game and I find myself checking my phone whenever I get the chance through the day looking for new posts.
I hope we don't lose Lysa, it already sucks that we lost Marsella.

Eric Erebus |

I'm doing my best to keep up. Though I'll be honest, I've been fairly addicted to voting on the RPGSS lately... I'll be more descriptive and check in more often once the 14th is over. XD
And it is sad to have lost someone already. Hopefully, we don't lose Lysa as well. But I'll stick around the game as long as we have a DM and other players!

Seren Little |

agree with everyone. It would hurt to lose 2 players but I'm having a lot of fun with this campaign

DM Aku |

Seriously, I'm not abandoning you.
Maybe in the next month (February), I'll need to make a work trip. And I do not know how long this trip will last or if I'll be able to use the computer.
So be warned now that we may have a "temporary" holiday in February.
As soon as I have more news, I'll update you guys.

Zerik |

Fair enough, life comes first and you have been awesome so far, you've more than earned it even though you don't need to.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Zerik |

Haha, where in India are you going to be? Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore or somewhere else?
-Posted with Wayfinder

Zerik |

If you were in Mumbai I would buy you a beer.
Good time of the year to be in India weather wise at least. Things sound worse than they are. It's basically the same thing that has always been happening but lots of issues are not getting the attention from the media which they deserve, so lots of messy issues coming to light, which will hopefully push the govt to do something about it with elections around the corner.
Expect lots of traffic and expect things not to work they way they should and you'll be fine. Also we're notorious for being tardy.
Anyway, enough of that, back to Prison Break, PFS and taking over the world!

DM Aku |

I've not checked it but, based on your crimes, you get a bonus. The crime you guys commited are considered traits in this adventure.
Check for me if you have your sheet updated with the following info:
Crimes:
Arson
You have willfully started a fire that destroyed property.
To be sent to Branderscar, you didn’t start just a minor
little trash fire. Your act of arson threatened a major
town, city, church or castle and likely cost someone their
life. You’ll be punished for your crime by facing the fire
yourself.
Punishment: Death by burning
Benefit: Whenever you score a critical hit with a fire
attack, you receive a +2 fire damage bonus to your
damage roll. This bonus is a trait bonus.
Attempted Murder
You tried to kill someone and botched the job. To be
sent to Branderscar Prison, you did not try to kill just
anyone. You likely assaulted someone of great
importance and prominence.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You gain a +2 trait bonus to Intimidate
checks, and Intimidate is always a class
skill for you.
Blasphemy
Either you have defamed the great god Mitra or you have
been found guilty of worshipping one of the forbidden
deities (who preeminent among them is Asmodeus).
Punishment: Death by burning
Benefit: +2 trait bonus to Knowledge (religion) and
Knowledge (religion) is always a class skill for you.
Consorting with the Dark Powers
(Witchcraft)
You have been found guilty of summoning an evil outsider.
Likely you were captured by the famed witch hunter
Sir Balin of Karfeld. The last thing he said to you was,
“May Mitra have mercy upon your wretched, damned
soul.” If only you could get a chance at revenge!
Punishment: Death by burning
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to Knowledge
(planes) and Knowledge (arcana) checks, and one of
these skills (your choice) is always a class skill for you.
Desecration
You have violated one of the churchs, cathedrals or holy
shrines of the great god Mitra. To be sent to Branderscar
this was no minor act of vandalism. Instead you have
done something flagrant and spectacular to dishonor the
Shining Lord.
Punishment: Death by burning
Benefit: You receive +1 trait bonus on all saving
throws against divine spells.
Desertion
You have deserted from the Talirean military and been
recaptured. To get sent to Branderscar this was not some
minor or routine dereliction of duty. Instead, you abandoned
your post during a time of crisis -- perhaps battle
or while defending the Watch Wall. Regardless of the
exact circumstances, your laziness and cowardness must
have caused loss of life.
Punishment: Death by hanging
Benefit: You receive one bonus skill point per level
that must be spent on the Profession (Soldier) skill.
Profession (Soldier) is always a class skill for you.
Dueling unto Death
You have engaged in a duel to the death and mortally
wounded an opponent. The opponent was honorable
enough to say nothing before he expired. Alas that his
family or companions was nowhere near so honorable.
Dueling was once common in Talingarde before the
House of Darius came to power. The House of Barca all
but encouraged duels of honor. Now, dueling of any sort
is punished severely. Dueling to the death is a sure way
to be sent to Branderscar Prison.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus to Fortitude saves
Extortion
You have defrauded money from someone by holding
information of their wrongdoing over their heads. To
end up in Branderscar, this was no minor act of merely
threatening to expose someone. Instead you ave attempted
extortion against someone of great prominence
and for exorbitant stakes.
Punishment: Life at hard labor in the salt mines
Benefit: You receive a +2 trait bonus to Intimidate
checks, and Intimidate is always a class skill for you.
Forgery
You have forged documents issued either by the crown
or by the Church of Mitra. Alas, that your forgery while
competent was not entirely undetectable. To be sent to
Branderscar, this was no minor finagling of paperwork.
This forged document could have cost lives, undermined
the reputation of the Church or endangered the security
of the realm.
Punishment: Life at hard labor in the salt mines
Benefit: You gain a +3 trait bonus to Linguistics skill
checks to commit forgery and Linguistics is always a
class skill for you.
Fraud
You tried to bilk someone out of their cash. To end up
in Brandescar Prison, this was no petty con job or penny
ante racket. Instead, you brazenly tried to defraud someone
important of a huge sum of money. And it almost
worked too!
Punishment: Life at hard labor in the salt mines
Benefit: You receive a +2 trait bonus to Bluff checks
and Bluff is always a class kill for you.
Grave Robbery
It is forbidden by sacred law to dishonor a corpse after it
is been sealed in its tomb by a clergy of the Mitran faith.
Some may not honor this ban: necromancers, golem
crafters, self-styled scientists, and alchemists delving into
the forbidden secrets of life and death. These ghouls can
expect no mercy from the Talirean Magistrates. And by
sending you to Branderscar Prison, you have received
none.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to confirm critical
hits
Heresy
You have denied the supremacy of Mitra and been condemned
for it. For this to be a crime, you were not content
to keep your heresy to yourself. You tried to sway
others. Likely you were captured by the famed witch
hunter Sir Balin of Karfeld. The last thing he said to you
was: “Mitra may forgive you yet for your lies. Talingarde
will not.” If only you could get a chance at revenge!
Punishment: Death by burning.
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus on all saving
throws against divine spells.
High Theft
You had a foolproof plan to steal some great treasure.
Alas, the scheme had a fatal flaw and went horribly awry.
To be sent to Branderscar prison, this was no ordinary
robbery attempt. You tried to steal something of great
value or religious significance.
Punishment: Life at hard labor in the salt mines
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to Reflex saves.
High Treason
You have willfully worked to bring down the current
Monarch of Talingarde -- the beloved King Markadian V
called the Brave of House Darius. To be successfully tried
for High Treason you have done more than merely dislike
the king, you did something tangible to undermine his
rule. Alas, that you failed at your plot and are now headed
to Branderscar Prison. Treason is the only crime that
is still punished by the gruesome ritual of being drawn
and quartered. Your stay at Branderscar will be brief.
Punishment: Death by drawing and quartering
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to Will saves.
Kidnapping
You have abducted someone perhaps to ransom them
or do unspeakable things to them. Unfortunately, you
were caught and your victim was rescued (if they weren’t
rescued -- you would be guilty of murder instead). To
be sent to Branderscar Prison, you must have abducted
someone of great importance or in a particularly gruesome
manner.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to both Disarm
and Grapple attempts.
Murder
You have killed without just cause and been condemned
for it. To be sent to Branderscar Prison, this was no typical
killing but a particularly savage and unforgiveable act.
You may also have killed someone with powerful friends.
Note: You are not allowed to have killed someone in
the royal family of Talingarde. You may have tried (his
would instead be High Treason -- see above) but ultimately
they are too well protected.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You deal 1 additional point of damage when
flanking a foe. This additional damage is a trait bonus.
Piracy
You have been caught in the act of piracy on the high
seas. This is a rare crime these days since Markadian I
called the Victorious burned the last major pirate fleet to
threaten these isles. Still the crime is punished harshly.
Likely you are the sole survivor of your ship.
Punishment: Death by hanging
Benefit: You may select either Bluff or Intimidate.
The selected skill receives a +2 trait bonus and is always
a class skill for you.
Sedition
You have attempted to covertly stir up rebellion against
your rightful sovereign. This differs from high treason
in that you attempted to convince others to make war
against Talingarde instead of taking direct action yourself.
A subtle difference to be sure. But it is the difference
between receiving the swift justice of the axe instead
of the slow suffering upon the rack.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to Bluff checks
and Bluff is always a class skill for you. Further if you
ever take the Leadership feat, you gain a +1 trait bonus
to your Leadership score.
Slave-Taking
Slavery is illegal in Talingarde and a very rare crime. Still,
once in a great while, slavers from the mainland will foolishly
make an incursion into Talirean protected territories.
When they are captured alive they are always made
an example of.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You receive a +1 trait bonus to both Disarm
and Grapple attempts.
Slave Trading
Slavery is legal in other parts of the world and it can be
tempting to the most decadent of Talingarde’s nobility
to acquire a “souvenir” when traveling abroad or to
purchase the object of their desire from a less reputable
merchant. However you ended up trading slaves in Talingarde,
you were caught red handed and now you will
lose more than simply your freedom.
Punishment: Death by beheading
Benefit: You receive one bonus skill point per level
that must be spent on the Appraise skill. The Appraise
skill is always a class skill for you.

I've had an issue with something in this line in the other WotW table I'm running. You guys did nothing wrong, it's just a reminder.
"One more fair warning. I do not check the character sheet until he try to do something. As it is said in the house rules, when you guys level up, if you did nothing in the game to search for a different knowledge, you can only pick something from the core rulebook. If you want something and you thing it's hard to get it in the game, talk to me and we'll work out how to add it ingame. If you try to use something and there's no explanation in the game how you get it, I'll just remove that knowledge from the char, and you'll not be allowed to replace it. In short: Try use something without getting it ingame and you'll lose it. (if it's a feat, you don't gain it's benefict but will still will have that feat slot used. And other things along this line.)
You have been warned!
An evil laugh echoes through the discussion thread."
Ah, just one other thing: the other table is at the prison too, if you are curious, this is the campaign link. They did the things in a whole diferent way than you guys did. Just don't read the Gameplay thread for now. To not spoil the fun. :)

Nahia |

No problem with the traveling thing, just let us know roughly when we should check back in after you leave. That happens to me on occasion in my line of work too. And though I've worked with a number of people in India, I've never been there myself, unfortunately. I hope you have lots of fun!
As far as your last warning, what do you consider different? Taking my character as an example, it seems well within her history to have some experience weaving baskets, even if not explicitly named. So is it reasonable to put a point in Craft (Baskets) or Profession (Basket Weaver)? What about something like Craft (Weapons), which was not explicitly named in my backstory and seems less likely to have been something she did in the past?

Eric Erebus |

Good Luck in India! Would love to see pictures. Also, thank you for the heads up. Waiting and checking-in is much less worrisome when you know the GM is going away rather than him just disappearing and not knowing if he'll ever come back, lol.

Seren Little |

I love and hate this campaign at times. Love it cause its simply amazing, and a great group... but then I wake up to 15 posts in the discussion and a whole whack of new combat + someone almost dead, leads to some dramatic mornings waking up.

Seren Little |

nah, I don't think your really holding anyone back. This story seems to have a great pace to it, never felt like I've had to wait on something to happen.

Nahia |

I agree with Seren, I haven't gotten the impression that anyone has been holding the thing back. Also, quite happy to have this as my first pbp.

DM Aku |

@Adanna, since I'm totally lazy today, I'll just copy and paste you answer.
Outside core and APG stuff aside, can you define that more? For instance at level 3, taking power attack requires RP etc or is it a Straight entry? Taking skill focus bluff may seem ok but would skill focus: Religion?
With a feat like 'extra traits' I would expect you'd want to a) know the traits in advance and b) see RP applicable for it.
What I mean is: When you create your char, you have already a history that support his habilities, even though you did not writed it, we can assume that the character learned about that before he began the game.
When the game begin, it's a whole diferent matter. Knowledge do not just appear from the day to night.
We have a really good example here: Malgrin is a monk, and he do not know how to use armor. But he plans to take a fighter level once he reaches level 2. Even though he is not using weapons, he is still using the armor and that will give it a more realistic sence when he get the fighter level.
It would be really strange if he had not did anything a fighter would do, and then when he levels up he just says: DM, I'll pick up a fighter level now.
This is really the thing I do not want in the game. When I say core stuff, I mean the Core Rule Book. Not even Advanced Player Guide is allowed.
It does not mean however that you cannot get anything outside the core.
Here is another example: Eldred plans in the future to get this talent:
Sniper Shot
You are skilled at making deadly attacks from an extreme distance.
Prerequisites: Int 13, Wis 13, Far Shot, Focused Shot, Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot.
Benefit: As a full-round action, you may make an attack that allows you to deal precision-based extra damage to a distance equal to your weapon’s range increment. You may only make this attack with bows and crossbows. Precision-based damage includes sneak attacks, a ranger's favored weapon bonus, and the damage bonus from the Focused Shot feat. Creatures immune to critical hits and sneak attacks are immune to this extra damage.
Section 15: Copyright Notice
Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting. It's not a Core Rulebook feat, so he will need to "search" for this knowledge in the game. Basically what he just need to do is say: DM, will get the X feat at the Level X, Eldred will in his free time, train in order to get that feat. If he do not do it, you are allowed just to get things from the Core Rulebook. Better yet if he RP that!
Skills, if you did not started with then, need to be learned in game too. It's strange you did not picked up a book in the entire adventure campaign, and then one day, you have a really good knowledge about something. (Just a example about K skill.)
Character traits don't need to be learned. They are something that already belong to the character path you choose.
Everything from the core (feat, spells and such) can be learned with a Straight entry, but it is really cool to have you character develop that hability in game. It gives a more realistic feeling, and you can later see how the char evolved. You did not just added numbers to it, you created a history. :)
If there's still any other doubt, be sure to ask.
I do not want to limit your char, far from that, as I said everything is avaliable (everything with the the source link) if you get that in the game.

Nahia |

Cool. I'm mostly curious because I have a tendency to drop a point or two in various crafts/professions as I level up. And with Nahia I also intend to drop more points in linguistics to pick up more languages (mostly giant, infernal, and abyssal, but maybe a few others).
Looking at my feat plans I doubt I'll be taking anything outside of the CRB except for Split Hex at level 10, which is pretty much a witch staple. Towards level 10 I was planning on taking some hexes from Ultimate Magic, if allowed.
What about spell selections at level up? CRB only? CRB and APG?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I just want to make sure we're on the same page. : )
Edit: And yeah, he went to sleep and was then woken up. Looking at the initiative order he still lost his turn (last round) and would have woken up to take his action anyway.
Edit: Edit: And looking at how things turned out I probably should have tried to sleep #9 but the horn blowing is, to some extent a bigger concern, to Nahia. : /

DM Aku |

Spliting the answers just to please Seren.
As I said before, you can get anything from whatever source you find (from paizo of course), you just need to provide me the link to what you want, and Role play it in game. If you think it will be hard to do it on your own, drop me a line and I'll help you.
If you don't want to rp your the new things you get ingame, you are allowed just to get things from Core Rulebook. (In canse of the witch, you can get the hex and spell from the book the first appeard and only that.)

Nahia |

I'm cool with the RPing thing and think that makes a lot of sense for most feats and skills.

Nahia |

But, for example, with spells, let's say I wanted to get the second level spell Blood Transcription from Ultimate Magic as one of my free spells when I reach level 3. Would you find it acceptable for me to say, RP gather enemy blood ahead of time and using it in alchemy, as a way to show my character progressing into that spell?

Nahia |

How about for split hex, which lets a single hex use affect two targets instead of just one? I could possibly see RP practicing trying to affect, say, multiple birds or animals with the charm hex to come near. Would something like that be appropriate?

Nahia |

Again, for something like this, I think it is important to be on the same page because I might need to plan things like my spells out in advance to make sure I build the appropriate fluff (mmm, fluff) into it.
