Considering the issues at hand, Raya pauses, "And no magic was detected?" She gives an aside glance to Thom, moving on before he responds. "Then perhaps we can divide into two workgroups, one to investigate the voice, and the rest of us set about getting the rope set up for that column."

Thom looks at Raya as if to say You doubt...ME?

"No, but checking out the voice would be wise." He turns to Lanthair, "Can you sense where the voice came from?"

Advance warning. I will be away from early 28 Dec - late 4 Jan and may not have internet access (going to wierd foreign parts to visit mother in law).

Thom is adamant that the skull gave him no arcane tinglings whatever. As far as Lanthair is concerned, the halfling cannot be sure exactly where the mysterious voice is coming from, but it doesn't seem to be in this room.

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

"I'm not sure where the voice is coming from. Perhaps if we continue onward through the column, we will find the source."

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

"Where that leads is a whole other matter, of course. Lynore, do you happen to know what we'll be looking at, inside the column?"

I figure it won't be an issue getting a rope secured to the column. What I do forget is if we can take 10 in 4E, if so I think everyone's going to make it there without issue.

wierd foreign parts.

Foreign must mean outside Yorkyshire. Remember to wrap up warm, and speak to the natives in a firm, clear voice. They'll respond to your tone even if they don't speak your language.

"Just because someone is asking for help doesn't mean they really need it, or should be given it. Let's go take a look." Arishat scrambles up the pillar.

Athletics check, take 10, 27 total.

Outside Yorkshire indeed. I've already got the wooly scarf and phrase book packed. Not that I think the scarf is really necessary in Cyprus, but you can't tell.

Re taking 10 and 20 in 4e - it isn't stated I think, but I am happy for you to do so if the stars are right - i.e. if you can do whatever you're trying to do without interruptions.

The group muster their collection of ropes, hooks and other climbing impedimentia and cluster around the hole in the column.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Not sure of my Floating Lantern can go up and down on its own, but if it can go in increments of the Z axis, Raya will send it down to investigate. I guess at the very worst, it could fall to the bottom to give us a heads up, but a simple glowrod could do that as well.

I can't see any reason for you not to be able to send it up and down.

Raya's convenient lantern reveals a crawlspace at the bottom of the tunnel.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

"Alright then, if I may suggest, shall we descend? Barel, I would say you and Lynore first, and I'll take rear. I promise to try not to fall on anyone." She smirks.

Male Dwarf Warden/16

Barel is ready to head down the tunnel shaft. he begins to climb down the shaft with a slow but steady cadence. Once at the bottom, he prepares to aid anyone who needs it

Minor: monkey grip.
standard: crawl 1/2 speed.
repeat as necessary to reach bottom.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Raya looks in amusement, murmuring quietly "Never seen a dwarf so nimble..."

I am back :) I hope everyone missed me horribly and had a wonderful New Year. We had no internet access whatever and a delayed flight, but I am now ready to try and kill you horribly. Happy 2012!

The crawl space extends in front of Barel and ahead, he can see a faint change in the darkness as though a opening lies before him leading to a chamber below.

Male Dwarf Warden/16

Welcome back! We missed you and your diabolical plots for our demise!

Barel calls for a rope and prepares to steady it from the bottom.

athletics check to assist any climbers: (4)+ 13 = 17.

Thom waits until Barel secures the rope before he follows the dwarf down it, muttering under his breath. Words 'undignified' and 'ridiculous' are among the words uttered.

Athletic take 10, total 21 with +2 from Barel AA.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

I think we can all take 10 on this as before, with that aid and make the descent. Also, good to have you back, Rev, been itching to get mummy rot again! wait, no....

Barel inches along the crawlspace and looks downwards. 40 feet below him lies a circular chamber adorned with barred niches. In front of one of them stands the object of your search. An enormous wraith drops the book he was holding, draws his blade and takes to the air, preparing to attack.

I took a guess on the order you're in in the crawlspace. If different, tell me.

Religion: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

"Moghadam, I presume? We would have words with you." She hefts her radiant sword, inferring exactly what sort of discussion she's prepared for.

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

My Ring the Golden Bell daily lets me jump 10 squares. If that includes downward trajectory, do I still take falling damage?

P.S. Welcome back, Rev!

@Lanthair - it's a daily. I think you can use it to jump downwards.

Male Halfling Monk 18 / Ghostwalker

Let's go for it, then.

The tough little halfling makes a heroic leap down to the wraith, striking at it as he lands.

Ring the Golden Bell. Jump to H5. 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22 vs Reflex. 4d6 + 17 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 5) + 17 = 32 damage on a hit and target is dazed (SE).

Cascading strikes ki focus to reroll. 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22

Edit: Gah! Razzum frazzum. Half damage and dazed to EOMNT on a miss.

Lanthair's leap takes him close enough to Moghadam to realise that the wraith's sense of despair has taken almost physical form. The halfling reels slightly as his normally sure fists do less damage than he had hoped.

Moghadam is still surprised enough by the abrupt intrusion of Lanthair that he is momentarily dazed, but greets Raya courteously enough.

"Moghadam indeed. Moghadam the great architect. Moghadam the Betrayed. Moghadam the Avenger."

The black blade whistles through the air, narrowly missing Lanthair.

Blade of Vengeance (Ref). On hit target takes 10 ongoing psychic (se)
1d20+24=28. Miss.

Even in the midst of his frustrated attempts to kick the self-styled great architect, Lanthair notes that the floor behind him is unstable.

minor action: Twilight Assassin attack, 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33 vs ref, 6 damage if hit

Lynore moves forward and shrouds the dread wraith and conjures a shadowy duplicate of herself next to the wraith, which lashes out with a quick attack.

Silver Crusade

Female Human 18 Paladin/Heartwarder

Raya grimly surveys the room, the immense drop next to her. "Thom, if you can reach him from here, might be best to stay here, but Barel or I have to get down there as fast as possible, have to get his fire drawn so we're not all taken out..."

I'm sure you know all this, but Raya's only known you guys for a day so far. :D

Lynore - you can't move to I10 unless you can fly. That is the hole leading from the crawlspace down.

@Raya - ah, but adversity makes ou develop some close bonds very fast indeed. Especially when Thom is around.

Peering over Barel's shoulder, Lynore conjures a shadowy simulacram of herself. Striking boldly, it still misses as the wraith moves readily away from the blow.

Thom gives Raya a look as if she has lost her mind...although she does note a slight flush to his features as well.

"Are you NUTS? No way I am going down there! That is why I have Minions...he he." He mutters quietly to himself, "Well...this is gonna be awkward, but she is the only one of my minions who can fly..."

He smiles a bit nervously at Raya, and says "Well I hope you like Lureene..."

Minor action Summon Succubus 'Lureene': Ranged 10 Square I7 40' up
Effect: You summon a Medium succubus in an unoccupied space within range. The succubus has speed 6, fly 6, and resist 10 fire. You can give the succubus the following special command.
Standard action: Ranged 5; targets one creature; Intelligence 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23 vs. Will; 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 damage, and the target is dominated until the end of your next turn. Once a creature has been dominated, the target cannot be dominated by the succubus again this encounter.
Intrinsic Nature: If you haven't given the succubus any commands by the end of your turn, it shifts 1 square and attacks the nearest enemy within range that is not dominated. In addition, you are dazed until the end of your next turn.
Symbiosis: While the summoned succubus is present, each creature you hit with a basic or at-will attack takes a -4 penalty to attacks rolls made against you until the end of its next turn.

A pained look crosses her face.

True, Rev, but also this is a new interloper in a well-established party, as well as a new player to the game as well! Even though players generally play perfectly tactical with each other in minatures games, I always felt that a certain amount of IG communication is necessary.

On a more IG note, 40 feet is 8 squares, right? Hmmm.

With a faint whiff of sulphur, heavily overlaid with Joy by Patou, Lureene materialises. Her attempt at dominating Moghadam is half-hearted a best and her expression bodes no good for Thom.

Arishat grumpily chucks a javelin at Moghadam and is unsurprised to see it pass over the wraith's head.

She does bring herself to his attention however. "Hellfire personified."

Can I increase a Climb DC to descend faster? I'm certain I'll tank this roll either way, so in for a penny in for a pound.

Athletics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

I don't think so.

Raya belies her own fears to make a successful partial descent. As she emerges from the tunnel, Moghadam's aura hits her in the face, but she hangs grimly onto her rope.

The wraith turns his gaze on her.

"Radiance. How delicious."

Sorry for the delay...went on a surprise trip out of town on Friday to crash a conference. Fun but busy.

Barel - welcome back. Are you sure I9 is where you end? You can't reach him from there.

Barel's arrival does not stir much interest in Moghadam. Even less so when the blow glances off him.

All is now clear :D

I suppose I should roll my own damage? 2d10 ⇒ (6, 8) = 14

In the future, I have to not roll so well.

Lanthair continues striking away at the wraith.

Tormented spirit. 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37 vs Fort. 3d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) + 17 = 29 necrotic damage on a hit and weakened to EOMNT.

Just wanted to point out Rev just had post 1337

Lanthair's next attack is much more successful. Moghadam turns gloomy eyes on his tiny pursuer and darkness erupts around him.

"Put out the lights, my eyes dazzle."

Shift.
Darkness (Ref) (close burst 5, enemies). Creates zone lasting to end Mog's next turn. Enemies in burst are blinded.
Targets Lanthair, Lureene, Shadow Lynore, Barel, Raya

minor: twilight assassin attack, 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 20 + 2 = 31 vs ref, 3 damage
looks like 36/2=18+2+2+4+9=35 damage on miss

Lynore calls out Moghadam as someone who needs rekilling, and lashes out at the wraith.

Don't forget the Twilight Assassin is attacking at -2 (blinded). Taking that into account, the attack is a miss.

Neither Lynore nor her shadow copy actually hit Moghadam, but the sheer power of shadow at the assassin's command is enough to tighten the nooses around his large form.

Afraid not. Or rather, only if Thom is sharing a square with her.

I'm sure he does that often enough, maybe there's some residual effects?

@Raya: Yeah, that was kinda my angle there he he.

Thom curses as his girlfriend is unable to see the dread wraith. Oh boy, I am gonna pay for this later. He scoots forward until he can see the wraith and lets a missile fly.

Magic Missile:

Left to her own devices, Lureene saunters closer to Moghadam and attempts to seduce him. Not surprisingly, given that she can't see him, she is unsuccessful and she sends a resentful glance Thom's way. The wizard wilts slightly, even as a bolt of arcane power penetrates the darkness and knocks a lump of Moghadam.

This isn't a bad position for Arishat. Everyone in range of Inspiring Word and her other powers, able to intercept Mogadon if he comes up here... Shame she can't do any real damage.

After whiffing horribly, Barel decides to let Raya's challenge stand, and neither moves closer nor calls him out...although he does stand ready action.
