M Human Barbarian/4

Yep! Rage rage rage!!!!!

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

lol

I think Belliott might be referring to his boss in RL :-/

Sorry guys, kids were having too much fun in Universal, so couldn't get time to post. I'm back in town now...anyone heard from Kerruk?

Welcome back! I had a bit of an adventure with my kids too this weekend :)

--Nope. I haven't heard from Mr. Appolinax at all for a while now.

Dang, hope he's okay. I'll bot him for now

M Human Barbarian/4

hahaha yep a bit of rage in RL

I thought I was a gonner (both with the beastie and my boss :)

Sorry again guys, life is going a bit crazy right now...I'm fine, but there's a few things going on that are a) hectic and b) challenging. Will try to keep up.

I'm just glad to know you are ok, man.

Thanks, Hammer!

Hi MrA, and welcome back! Feel free to jump right in. Hope all that's hectic and challenging is good:)

Some good, some is just...challenging 8-)

I guess I need to start understanding how bonuses stack now that we are starting to find things giving bonuses.

It looks like bracers of archery give a competency bonus, the same as the Inspire Courage bonus gives.. too bad that bonus type doesn't stack.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics-ability-scores/glossary#TOC-Competence-Bonus

For that matter, it seems that the cleric spell Guidance is also a competency bonus one would either choose the guidance or the inspire courage (whichever is greater) bonus.

It really makes no sense that inspire courage and an item wouldn't stack. I get the guidance rule - that makes a bit of sense. For the stacking of an item bonus with a spell bonus, though - I think those should stack.

What does everyone else think?

Standing to benefit from that house rule I am not an impatial party. Their stacking rules are I suppose to guard against breaking the system from min/max players in PFS who freely get to choose from any available magical item in the game. Thusfar in this campaign, such open availability of any magical item for purchase has not occurred (which I like for rp, btw), such measures may not be necessary to keep balance in this game.
However these are my first games with Pathfinder, so I might not know. Personally, in how I envision magic, it seems silly that bonuses don't stack if they are of the same type, because magic is supposed to be special. I guess that is my main beef with Pathfinder magic is so common place.

Current HP: 28 of 28 Sylph Oracle 5

I was always a fan that bonuses should stack within reason. It's only at higher levels that things start to get really silly with to much stacking, but by then you can do so much anyway......

If the GM says let it count, I wouldn't argue even if I didn't agree.

Do you think a quick maneuver to free the captives and heal them would give us an edge in this fight? or would they still be too weary and weak to help any?

I couldn't see Rosie fighting anything by how she looks. Sandara maybe, and she has some spells

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

another question. is the water so deep near the center that you have to swim? to approach Sandara, is swimming necessary?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

i'm thinking of doing attempting an acrobatic wonder Dashing-Jack saves-the-damsel kind of maneuvers.

Based on your perception of the slope of the cavern walls and the bulk of the big creature before you, you'd say that you'd have to swim down at least twenty feet to reach the bottom. Of course, it could be even deeper, there's no good way to tell

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

ah gawd. who wants to go swimming with that beast.
hey guys, a distraction maybe?

Do Legolas. Run. Leap onto its back. Climb up the rope.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Tap and I have been discussing the following plan:

Kerruk or Jack quaffs the invisibility potion to sneak over to the queen and attempt an assassination. The invisible person should also carry with them a means of healing, so that they might restore Sandara and maybe Rosie. Meanwhile, Tap will perform a majestic introduction, to perform before the queen and her court; his song will also be a fight song and have that effect on us. Playing the roll of a tricksy court jester, if you will. Hopefully the attention of the enemies will be on Tap and crew, thus diverting attention from the assassin, and hopefully, from Sandara and Rosie.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Kerruk has a sneak attack that might give extra damage. or maybe jack would be better for pure fighting ability. not sure.

if the monster slimie attacks us, it can reach us. our fighters should array themselves to attack with missile weapons from behind them. if there are elemental/familiars that can attack the monster from behind, we'll get flanking bonuses to boot.

Lol, ballsy indeed. What about Sandara and Rosie, who will be in the water - sinking, most likely

-Posted with Wayfinder

Yes Tap, you can get around the water - the queen is on such high ground

-Posted with Wayfinder

So they are tied up still? I thought they'd be able to swim..

Never mind, I see that they are both bound and weighted by silver.

That does not look good.

Jack, you have initiative. You've got to swim after them.

Next round, depending on how things are going, will try to casts grease on the ropes that bind Sandara, or Rosie. This could give a +10 circumstance bonus to Escape Artist checks to get out of the rope bindings that can last 4 rounds... The DC to get out of rope bindings is generally 20 + the creature's CMB that tied the rope.

Jack, you're up! If you're diving in after the girls, its acrobatics and swim. If you're attempting the assassination, then stealth, plus your standard action to drink the potion.

I believe Jack is going after Sandara and Rosie.

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

yes. sorry.

So, even with the ant haul spell, you're looking at a DC12 swim check to pull one person up - that goes up to DC20 if you try for both. Do you want to try for one or both...please check the thread before you answer.

If he cuts their ropes instead?

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

Jack will only attempt to save one at a time. Sandara first, but really whoever he reaches first.

Belliott's up!

Belliott contacted me. He is at a conference right now. He asked us to play his turn.

Suggestion:
Fearing the Queen's magic, Belliott rushes past the enlarged Grindylow, and delivers a mighty blow to the queen.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 1 = 23
damage: 1d12 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 = 17

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

we'll take it!

Male Human Swashbuckler Lvl 5

honestly i was left confused by the last round. i am entangled with the octopus underwater holding on to Sandara at the bottom of the pool? do i need to do a swim check?

Yup, you leapt in, grabbed Sandara before she sunk down - that was your first round. Then, the octopus appeared; you attacked it - second round, and yes I'll need a swim check. You are...at least right now, still underwater and holding your breath.

Unfortunately, the birds eye view of the map is only in two dimensions, so while it looks like the queen and Jack are side by side, the queen is up on the rocky outcropping about the water, where it's only inches deep. Jack is down in the water, beside the bulk of the huge grindylow

Jack, based on the nature of the current situation, you can hold your breath for an amount of rounds equal to your CON score...so, still a pretty darn long time

Current HP: 28 of 28 Sylph Oracle 5

Hey, where is everyone?

4 day holiday :)

nice

lol I wish. I mean us, collectively, on a 4-day holiday.
