GM_Verdigris |
Xanthos, unable to hold his true feelings in any longer, shreds the remaining two zombies.
The pause in the immediate conflict allows the sounds of the altercations outside to filter in. Irabeth's diversionary forces are hard at work.
In the room, it is a sad, awful affair, with crusader innards befouling the basin. Even so, with the destruction of the zombies, the stench is already beginning to clear.
and we are out of initiative.
Serra Iondri Phaer |
Serra spends a few seconds regaining his breath after the short battle, leaning over on his knees and panting. Sweat drops from his be-matted brow. He take a swig of water from his waterskin, letting it slosh down his overtaxed chain armor adding wetness to the strain of the links.
"Those zombies...so quick...so deadly...are we all okay?" Serra asks, taking his ranseur and moving to guard the stairs while others heal.
"We are mostly done, let us complete this so we might cleanse this place of the evil and bury those crusaders who gave their lives here."
GM_Verdigris |
GM_Verdigris |
Serra recognizes the basin for what it is, or rather was, before it was so abused. with the masterwork of the carving and the fine alabaster stone, the shape of it, it must surely be a scrying pool. At this size, and with the carvings, it was probably devoted to Iomedae, and used by her priests.
Serra Iondri Phaer |
Serra, while keeping an eye towards the stairs, begins to clean the basin.
"Twould be nice to have fresh clean water here, I think. Maybe someday...." Serra says after realizing that maybe if he wasn't such a sweaty fat ass he wouldn't have drunk all his water and there would be enough to fill the basin.
Beagan Berelcar |
Serra's question strikes him as a bit absurd. Nobody's skin was flayed alive. No one fell writhing in agony. None were knocked unconscious and revived for another beating. How could someone not be o.k.? And then he spots the basin. Well, those guys aren't. Having one's body raised to serve extreme evil isn't o.k. Could be worse. Much worse than being a Zombie. But still not o.k.
Taking the fire burning in his hands, Began has Xanthos trot to the fouled basin and nudges Serra out of the way for a moment.
"বিগ রাঃ এর পবিত্র ফায়ার তাদের সত্য পুরস্কার এই ওয়ারিয়র্স বিলি, এবং সমস্ত বিশ্বাসঘাতক করিতে ফন্ট ধোয়া মে."
The Gnome begins burning the befoulment on the basin, the fire flaring from his hand. 3 blasts of fire: 3d6 + 15 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) + 15 = 24
Once the flame is consumed, he'll return to more mundane ways to restore Iomedae's blessings.

No, fatso, it wouldn't.
Serra keeps an eye on the stairs.
"Thank you, Sir. Later, I'll bring water for that basin."
Cole Zeff |
Cole helps remove the slop from the basin. He places the various bits of scorched meat and whatnot with the bodies of the zombies.
As soon as we leave they're just going to undo all our work. We should hurry.
He washes his hands with his own waterskin, and casts Create Water into the receptacle. Just a couple gallons appear - but it's at least fresh and clean.
"Irabeth's diversionary forces can't keep it up forever. Let's get moving."
He gathers his misses and replenishes his quiver.

GM_Verdigris |
As Cole casts create water into the basin, and turns to go check out the last room, a familiar face appears in the door. Laina grins as she sees the group still all in one peace. She turns and whispers loudly towards the stairs.
"They're up here!"
A clatter of feet follows the call, as several others join her. Some they recognize -Irabeth, Laina, Graf, and the old man from the infirmary, now looking somewhat less firm.
Cole Zeff |
"Laina! What are you doing out here you insane little girl!"
Cole moves across the room to have a more protective stance near his niece.
Relax you old fool, she's taken care of herself and her mom mostly very well without you.
Cole takes a step back and relaxes a bit, but he's not happy with the intrusion.
If Irabeth could be here, why are we?
Something seems odd to Cole, but he puts aside the thought for the moment. He waits for someone more diplomatic to talk to Irabeth though he's still on the balls of his feet.
GM_Verdigris |
"I am NOT a little Girl!" Laina hisses at the old man, whatever joy she'd felt in seeing him alive and well dampened by his outburst in front of the Captain.
She moves back out to the hallway to listen for any approaching conflict from below.
Elyanias Myoch |
Eli looks up from Beagan's work, turns his attention to Irabeth when she arrives. "We're not done here. We have yet to check out the third floor. We've found what appears to be your sword as well. I think someone has it on themselves."
"Irabeth, your assistance is welcome, but we dare not delay any longer. We've accounted for several collectives of cultists and tieflings, and have slain one leader. I feel as though we've not met up yet with the prime mover here."
Without hesitation, Eli bounds up the stairs, magics for protection and strength still actively coursing through his muscles and over his armor.
GM_Verdigris |
And with that, Eli, Serra, Cole and Irabeth head up the stairs. As they approach the landing, they hear a gasp, drawing their attention back into the room below.
The basin begins to shimmer in front of Beagan and Grasker, an image beginning to emerge, a vision with full color and motion.
This circular room’s original purpose is unclear, but now it seems to be a trophy hall of some sort. A low stone pedestal sits on the floor in the middle of the chamber under a domed ceiling. Atop the pedestal is an iron, barbed cage—and within the cage sits a chunk of softly glowing white stone. A creature - perhaps she was half elf once, but now she seems something else, or other, her body wasting away in shapes malevolent in their passing - guards the cage, a scythe in her hand. She appears to be listening to something, and casting spells of some sort.
The image pulls back then, out the door and into another room. Twin minotaurs stand guard outside the door, sharpening their axes upon their horns. Black bat wings stretch and fold behind them, and long fangs glimmer in their mouth. Surely these are no simple minotaurs, but something bred in the very abyss itself.
The image slips outward again, down the stairs, to the landing, past Cole, Irabeth, Serra and Eli to the basin where Grasker and Beagan stare in amazement at the image. For a moment it is a mirror within a mirror within a mirror, and then the tiny bit of water Cole added drains away.

Serra stops his climb up the stairs (and hence not letting others go past him) as he watches the vision.

"Quiet, Grasker. You were always a pompous idiot, but must you prove it public?!?!" The old man growls. "If you have need of our services, Captain," he says, turning to Irabeth, "I will be outside with Laine."

"That is not well done, of any of us. It has been a long day of it and nerves are frayed, but let us not help the demons fracture our cause."
She instructs the others, Graf, Laina, and the old man to hold the downstairs. Shen everyone is ready, prepares to head upstairs with the others.

Eli stops in his tracks long enough to recognize the battle ready to play out, courtesy of the scrying pool. Winged minotaurs and a Corrupted? This is our final purge of the Garrison. They wait for us above, mean for us to be tired of will and magic, letting their minions wear us down. Well, let's see how worn down we are.
Remembering the ineffectualness of his hammer against the winged peryton, Eli draws forth the last of his magics to imbue his iron with a weave to avoid that frustration again. Cast Magic Weapon
He turns back to the others, regarding them before the onslaught awaiting them upstairs.
Eli reaches to calm Xanthos, wishing him only peace and strength. Cast William's Strength on both Bunny and himself
