Tyrnvald Olafson |
Seems its interested in the animals. Well lets see if we can give them a chance.
Tyr picks up a few rocks or whatever he can find and chucks it off toward the hedgehogs hoping to spook them away.
Lets press on and add some distance between us.
Tyrnvald Olafson |
Strange, do they eat stone. So thats why you said not to look it in the eye. I would normally dispatch such a beast to make the road safer, but not while your village is under attack. Quickly now lets move on.
Angor Yasok |
Angor picks up the backpack, and his passenger, and heads off down the road. Though he is not too concerned with the basilisk he uses the flat of his axe to keep an eye on the brush the others saw it in.
When Tyr throws the rock he says, "Leave the beast be. Not wise to get in the way of nature lest it get in the way of you."
The Little Game Master |
With the basilisk at their back, they hear a crack and pop as it dislocates its jaw and swallows the stone hedgehog whole. During this meal, the other hedgehog unrolls and darts for the forest.
As the group moves forward they can feel it getting warmer.
The Little Game Master |
Before you lies a great pit or rather a 10' deep hole in the ground from which emanates the heat, upon further inspection, you see a fissure. You do not, however, see any obvious source of heat.
You smell a faint hint of sulfur coming from the pit
Cedany |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Knowledge (History or Religion?): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
"Is that sulphur? I don't think that's ever good?"
Tyrnvald Olafson |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Not sure I don't smell anything. Mind your steps.
Sorry made an assumption it may have been a fire :)
Besh Bizzbus |
No apology necessary, it was a valid assumption. That's why I wanted to clarify.
As Tyr approaches the foliage lining the pit, it becomes clear that the line of large, thick trees and under-brush comes right up tot he edge of the pit. "How are we going to get past? Up the tree? Cut down the tree? Walk along the edge of the pit? Go through the pit? What?" Besh's buzzing whisper made it easy for the troup to understand she'd now had plenty of rest and was more than a little excited to be on an adventure. Whether the excitement stemmed from being out of her father's inn or from being in the company of a hero and his wonderful minstrels, no one could tell.
Angor Yasok |
@ Besh "You keep buzzing in my ear and I'm going to see if my backpack can make it over," he says while shrugging it off his shoulders. He makes like he is going to throw until Besh protests quite vocally then puts the pack down gently. "Besides I think you've ridden long enough."
@ the others "Madam Lacey has the right of it, let's just muscle through the brush. Can't be that hard."
Knowledge (Nature) or Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Survival: 15
Knowledge (Nature): 17
Tyrnvald Olafson |
Well I don't think the world ends to the left or right of us here so yes, lets press into the trees and just stay clear of it.
Besh is this not the path you came to us on? Was this pit no here when you ran to the village?
Besh Bizzbus |
Besh gets up out of the backpack blushing in embarrassment. "I rather liked the ride, thank you," she says curtsying. "I did come through here, but the pit was considerably..." she puts her hands like two c's closing them in, "...smaller."
"And I wouldn't go into this forest," she says with a timid voice, "if the road has a bloody basilisk coming into it, I'd hate to see what comes of the thick." She points there.
Tyr's first step into the forest he causes a stick to crack loudly. Behind them they hear a echoing growl and snort. The sound stops Besh in her tracks, and she begins trembling.
Tyrnvald Olafson |
Well it seems silly to not walk around the pit so.
Not to worry Besh, you have the hero of Wispil with you. I'm sure those are just stories to keep people from getting lost in the forest.
Tyr steps into the forest.
What was that? Besh have you heard that growl before?
Besh Bizzbus |
A: you can go around the pit without going into the forest (that first circle is a ledge with no grass on it, requires a DC 5 Acro check not to fall in the pit). B: that was Cedany, not Besh
Besh vibrates more than shakes her head to let him know that no, she has never heard anything at all like that before. And as the innkeeper's daughter in a frontier town, that scares her listless.
Angor Yasok |
"Ha. Can't go a mile without pissing off everything in the forest can you Tyr? Come on. Let's try the other side."
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
or 12 if I can take 10.
Angor goes to the other side of the pit from the snarling noise and begins to carefully make his way around the pit.
Cedany |
Cedany will follow the others along the ledge (if that's where they're going) mentally preparing herself to cast feather fall if anyone slips.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Tyrnvald Olafson |
I can't walk around that ledge and I don't have time to take off my armor. If there is a beast waiting on this side, I will just try the forest on the other side.
Tyr marches over to the right side starting to go throgh the forest.
I have =6 to Acrobatics so I can't even take 10 :)
The Little Game Master |
Acro Besh: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Angor, Cedany, and Besh edge their way along the side of the pit with ease.
Tyr is unable to find a whole through the forest wide enough to place a foot step. Climbing a tree, edging around the pit, or moving through the pit seem to be the only options afforded him and his group.
Tyrnvald Olafson |
This is ridiculous. I am a knight and hero. I will not be beat by some damn pit. This is not to be spoken of or included in any song.
He takes the rope and secures himself before trying to make his way around the edge.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (3) - 6 = -3
Tyr's footing slips as he rounds the edge. He topples over into the pit slamming against the wall as the rope become taught.
AAAAAYYYYYYY, Ummmmphhhhhh!!! Ouch. Stupid slippery boots. Now quickly pull me up. I owe you all a round for this. Drinks on me when we beat the beast attacking the village.
The Little Game Master |
Another growl and a roar shake the pit. As the hero and his minstrels look back toward the fissure from where the sound now clearly originated, they see a haggard stone face with fiery eyes over an equally broken-looking stone claw which the monster uses to pull itself up out of the fissure. It splays it's torn and tattered bat-like wings and roars again when it sees the five-and-a-half of you.

If I haven't mentioned it before, I need the characters to go in order (especially since in this game, the bard stats stack, it's very important that you wait your turn). That being said, just because the characters go in order doesn't mean you have to post in order, if it's not your turn, simply post what you will do (and under what conditions you'll do them) in a spoiler, i.e. If the monster is within range:; If not:; etc.
Further, if it's your turn, and at least 2 of your teammates have spoilered their actions, I will bot you to keep things going.
The creature takes flight, breathing fire at the heroes within the cone as displayed on the map as he flies past. Charge: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 DC 13 REF check for half damage
Angor Yasok |
Well, the rope is destroyed.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Great
Stuck pulling on the rope, Angor can't even manage to block the oncoming torrent of flame and is heavily burned. This only fuels his anger though. He draws his great axe and roars at the flying demon. The roar then turns into a chant of challenge from his home.
Draw axe = move. Inspire Courage (chant) = standard. 1/6 rounds of bardic performance used.
Cedany |
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Cedany ducks aside, as the flames lick over her (4 dmg); She takes a step forward away from the flames and draws her bow and begins to sing +2 Str/Con, +1 Will, -1 AC, unable to take actions with concentration to any willing allies
Tyrnvald Olafson |
This happened after I was pulled up, or did I just fall into the pit? I will post reflex for now, but wait on others for turn.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
7 damage reduced to 2 damage

We can assume Angor pulled you up when he saw the monster.

Watching from the far side of the pit, Lacey began to orate the encounter, as was her custom.
"And lo the beast came forth seething flame from the pit, a hero stood alone facing with a steel heart an abomination of fire and stone! Our hero's will was strong and his sword sharp, he fought with vigilance!"
Standard to inspire courage. +1 atk and damage to all who can hear.

Not sure how high it is or anything else. If your going to use flying monsters you have to give more information or this will take forever. I'm assuming its on the ground or only 5' up since the cone got us all.
I won't let this beast get away. Don't worry my friends I will slay it with your words of inspiration.
Tyr 5' steps to the beast, he then draws he great sword and attacks
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3) + 9 = 18
Attack Confirmation: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16
Edit: Take that Beast :)
The Little Game Master |
Sorry, yes, he's 5' above ground
Tyr's greatsword cuts deep into the flying beast, loosing a stone shard from his chest, causing it to bleed lava-like blood. 34 dmg dealt, and may I say, good dicemanship!
Fleeing his attacker, he chases down the orator and the hustling gnome with his next fire breath. Charge: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 Or should I say, warm-summer-breeze breath?

no way it could leave my threat without provoking. It would need to withdraw and then it wouldn't have been able to attack
The Little Game Master |
Clearly, yes, thank you for the roll.
As it flies overhead, Tyr juts his sword above him to worsen the damage made, slicing a splash of molten rock onto the ground behind him. 48 dmg dealt
The Little Game Master |
I apologize for the radio silence, it's abundantly clear that Abro is out, and we'll continue on without him. I've been a bit busy with finals, scholarship applications, family events, etc. But with school starting back soon, I should be on more regularly.

I'll give it another few days, if we don't have at least three by then, I'll reopen recruitment.
The Little Game Master |
Alright, wonderful! If this keeps up we'll have Angor back later today. So y'all are up, but remember to post spoilers if you're posting out of order. We'll start with Angor's averaged initiative idea after this encounter.
Lacey Kezia |
If the beast still lives after Angor's turn.
She makes a motion with her hand. Chord of Shards: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11 DC Ref 15 negates.
The Little Game Master |
Angor maintains his encouragement, but otherwise delays.
Lacey's oration continues and at the word song the sound of her voice became shards of crystalline matter shooting forth toward the beast. It shrieks in pain. 61 damage dealt
Ref: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Cedany continues to sing, and fires an arrow at the creature to no avail. Something I learned recently in another campaign: if you're attack is over 10, even if it's under the creature's AC, you can use that attack as an Aid Another (+2) to someone else's attack or AC when they engage the beast as long as you're both in a position to attack the creature during your attack. With the bard bonuses, that applies to your attack, Cedany, but you need to designate whether you're giving Tyr (assuming that's who you're helping as he's next up) a bonus to attack or AC.
Total Bonus: +2 to attack, damage, saves (+3 to will); +2 Str/Con; -1 AC

I don't know who gave you that information, but it's wrong. Aid another is a specific action you have to choose to take.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16
Tyr advances on the beast, but as his sword come swinging overhead the beast dodges and the blade crashes into the ground.
