Not sure which door Atol was opening, but let's open them all.
The six doors:
Each of these chambers is empty save for a set of four of the ubiquitous circular discs set into the floor.
In two of the chambers the tubes contain elves.
In two of the chambers there are dwarves in each of the tubes.
The final two chambers have more spell weavers.
Down the pit, the door opens unto a hallway that splits. To the east is a hallway filled with the ice lattice. To the south is another door.

Toffitt opens the door to another ice lattice filled room. About 10' inside the room stands a lithe, toothy creature with jet-black skin that looks like living tar. Ooze drips from the claws that cap its long arms. Each one holds a short sword.

Toffitt moves and ice crystals rain down on the floor. Finneas dashes in splattering ice crystals everywhere. He swings at the demodand and his blade makes a satisfying gash, but Finneas has some trouble following through on his swing and pulling it back.
DC 23 Reflex save; failure means the weapon sticks to the demodand and cannot be used to make attacks until freed. Freeing a stuck weapon requires a successful grapple check (DC 42).
The demodand only knocks down only a few ice crystals as his dual short swords snake in and out of the ice lattice web. Each sting is small, but after six of them and a near miss with a bite, Finneas is not feeling so good. (73 damage total)

Finneas takes a 5' step and takes a couple swings at the demodand. The first one cuts a great chunk of black tar flesh from the demon (51 damage), but the second swing fails to penetrate and in fact remains stuck to the demodand.
Glimmil takes advantage of the charge lane and heads in. He also lands a beautiful hit, but loses his weapon in the process.

At first, Glimmil looks worried that Finneas is once again on the group, but then nods to himself re-assuredly.
He'll be alright, it's just another one of his mid-combat power naps. Cog likes to take those sometimes when he finds a nice sunny spot at home.
Tossing Claw-Whomper in his hand to test it's balance, Glimmil nearly drops the weapon before gripping it tightly.
"Alright, Mister Demo-not-so-dandy. Time to teach you that ignoring the paladin was a bad idea!"

Dyrant nods smugly as the Demo-not-dandy falls to the Cauldron 5.2, walking over to Finneas.
"Up you go, Smokin' One...you don't seem yourself today. You did swing a mighty wallop that helped fell the tarrible foe," Dyrant says supportively.

"Let's get you on your feet. I'm still not sure what this place is all about yet. Why was this creature here? Who put it here and why? And if it was evil, what more can we do to stop it?" Dyrant muses aloud while casting Detect Magic and scanning the area and preparing to follow Dr. Toffitt.

Dyrant comes over and resists the urge to stain his AngelRelic in the tarry mess. Doing it once would be silly, doing it twice would be re-tar-ted.
"A tarry demodand. An demonlike being of great power. Yet another victory for the Cauldron 5."
Dyrant looks around and looks to move forward.
"Let's go East."

Toffitt walks down the hallway's airways, taking advantage of lingering invisibility to explore it to the next logical point of decision.

Off to the west from the intersection Toffitt sees a room with a balcony/walkway around the entire room. In the middle of the room are two large pillars, each made of what looks like gray necrotic flesh.
To the south is a closed door.
To the west is a collapsed tunnel, but a side tunnel has been burrowed around it.
I'm not going to move Toffitt on from there.

Toffitt is definitely not trying to trigger anything new.

Glimmil hesitates at the intersection, uncertain which direction Toffitt has literally disappeared towards.
While he waits for the doctor to complete what scouting he may be attempting, Glimmil gives all three directions a quick do-badder scan and leans in to whisper to Cog.

"I need to learn that trick the Doctor has. Turning invisible. This is not fun."
He will then heal himself before expending too much of the wands power.

Toffitt returns and reappears. Two hallways lead off from this one. At one end, a room with fleshy, necrotic pillars." He describes the pillars in detail to Dyrant.

"Fleshy necrotic pillars, eh?" Dyrant repeats, seeking to understand what they could mean.
Shaking his head, Dyrant sighs.
"I'll need to look for myself. Aralynn, would you grant me flight like your own again? The blessings of archonflight are needed yet again to stamp out evil."
Lifting off the ground, Dyrant nods to Toffitt (wherever he might be).
"Come or stay, but I must see this."
Dyrant will silently fly/float down to take a look.

Glimmil and Cog trot up to the intersection and observe as Dyrant glides ahead.
"You checked for traps down this corridor, right doc?"

Toffitt looks to his friends and starts walking on air down the hall toward the pillars. I could get used to this. He drinks his extract of echolocation as he walks.

Dyrant flies behind Dr. Toffitt to AC59.
"Perhaps I will need to interact with these pillars in some way to unleash the knowledge that they possess," Dyrant murmurs softly.
"Come along Cauldronites, we might be close to finding the answers we seek."

D: First, who are the Cagewrights?

D: What do they plan?

D: Uhm...I'm sure more stuff will come to me. Maybe the others will suggest things.
Aralynn: Really? Them? Maybe they wish to know of another scone spread? Or about the purpose of the Smoking Eye? Or the process towards lichdom? Or how to make a gnomegal...
D: Hey...be nice to Skie. She's been good to us.
Aralynn: Suit yourself, heretic. You need a cudgeling. They do too.
D: For the love of the Cudgel. We'll get to that if and when they deserve it. So far we are working for Cauldron.
Aralynn: If you weren't so weak, you could bring more followers to Cuthbert by using the Cudgel.

Toffitt reaches the room and notices what could pass for Finneas's evil twin in the corner. He wears full plate and wields a greataxe. While interesting, the real eye-catcher is the naga wrapped around the top of one of the soul pillars. It stares down at Toffitt with hungry eyes.
