I have some uncertainty about how Communal spells work, and the messageboards aren't helping. Last round Toffitt "cast", touched a few, took a 5' step, touched Finneas, and used a move action to pull a potion for Finneas. I'm not sure whether Toffitt can continue to distribute the spell this round (to Dyrant and Aralynn). If so, that's what Toffitt does with his move action.

Toffitt drinks an extract of fly and flies to AX66 +5'.

Full HP still.


I'm going to limit the duration of when a person can be included in the communal spell to whomever Toffitt can touch during the round it is cast.

Glimmil and Cog remain paralyzed as Toffitt flies by them into the room. Dyrant begins summoning something to battle the dragon while Atol scrounges through his haversack for the right scroll. He finds it and releases Glimmil from his paralysis. Finneas is shaken by the dragon's presence, but prays to Kord for assistance in overcoming his fears.

The dragon laughs at Toffitt. "Have you come to talk me to death, half-elf? It's what your kind likes to do isn't it?" He then circles the room and bites Toffitt before returning to his same spot (15' reach).

@Toffitt: AX75 is a spot 40' up. Where are you on the top view (53-71)

@Finneas: That works since I known you're not flying and have to stay on the ground (or wall). That's AW62 on the overhead view. Right out in the middle of that very sturdy bridge.


Once a character is in the room with the 3 dimensional possibilities I need the overhead (X) and side (Y) coordinates each time. Alternatively, you can give the overhead with height. For example, Finneas is currently at AW62/AW82 or AW62-0'.

Finneas - it wouldn't have helped your '1' but don't forget Atol's buffs. The Heroes' Feast (listed below) is good for more than just temporary hp. It also gives bonuses to hit, will saves, and saves vs fear.

Atol considers his options and casts Holy Smite 5d8 ⇒ (3, 5, 6, 5, 7) = 26, Will DC 19 for half and avoid blindness, careful not to hit Dr. Toffit, just in case…

If it's an evil outsider:
The damage would instead be 10d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 5, 4, 6, 5, 1, 3, 1) = 38 save for half as usual

Remember, anyone who had breakfast with Atol has 10 temporary hit points, +1 (morale) attack rolls/Will saves, and +4 (morale) on poison/fear saves from the heroes' feast for 12 hours.

Glimmil, regaining his senses, urges Cog forward, but quickly realizes that Cog is not responding.

"C'mon boy! Let's go!"

Frowning, Glimmil appears disappointed as his head scans the room beyond and he recognizes Atol standing behind him with a scroll that's quickly crumbling to ash.

"Oh, the dragon's touch! Thanks Atol!"

Discarding his lance, Glimmil prays to Garl for help in defeating the dragon.

Spend a hero point to regain a daily use of smite, and then a swift action to activate it.

As Glimmil begins to glow with holy light once again, he reaches for his longbow and launches a lone arrow at the dragon.

He narrows his eyes and tries to fire somewhere a scale is missing on the beast's chest, remembering a story he once read where such a tactic was effective.

Atol moves a little closer to the action and casts Flame Strike for Fire/Holy damage: 11d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 2, 5, 2, 5, 2, 6, 4, 4) = 42, Reflex DC 20 targeting the dragon. Dyrant brings in a chorus of angels in the form of an Azata. The air elemental misses, but eliminates an image. Dyrant moves up and glares at the dragon, but he only has eyes for Toffitt right now.

Atol's flame strike finds its mark, not surprising how big the target is. However, the dragon shrugs it off.

Finneas charges up and by the luck of Kord provides Toffitt's flank. Yes, I could have fixed the air elemental positioning, but this is much better.

Toffitt makes the most of the unexpected luck and tries to put a large gash in the dragon, but fails. Finneas succeeds though and opens up a gash in the dragon's flank.

The dragon let's go of the wall and hovers in front of Toffitt. It rips out his spleen with its bite, but evidently Toffitt no longer needs that as it doesn't crit him. The dragon follows up with a claw that takes out a kidney, which isn't so bad until the wing rips out the other. Missing most of his internal organs between his pelvis and his ribs, Toffitt drops his elven blade and quickly follows it crashing to the ground below.

The dragon smiles and turns to the other blade in his side and starts in on Finneas. "Have you forsaken your life for immortality as the half-elf did or can you be frozen like the the miniature paladin?" Only two hits for a total of 28 damage, but two FORT saves.

It's a good thing there are hero points. Atol couldn't have made the 25' horizontal leap from the edge of the bridge. Feel free to try though. For all Atol knows, he might be worth saving.

Finneas forgot his FORT saves. Since his first roll was a 4, that means he would not have made the DC 26 save even with hero's feast, bard song, etc. Hence, he's paralyzed and floats to the bottom on his turn. His goal achieved, the dragon saves his AoO.

Technically, Toffitt doesn't fall until his turn when he fails his fly check. Ditto with Finneas.


After the dragon guts Toffitt until his eyes roll back in his head and he drops his sword, Glimmil fires his arrows.

Then Atol can act. Per chat, he's going to jump anyway expecting that Toffitt is going to fall.

Then Toffitt floats to the ground. Fly skill doesn't say what happens when you fail a fly check without wings and are unconscious so can't just be forced to move at least half your speed, but I'm going to say its like the spell ending.

Then Finneas floats to the ground.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO....When Dyrant and Atol go, it looks like Toffitt's been gutted and Finneas has locked up.

That either helps or just confuses even more.

Atol casts a great and glorious Sound Burst, Fortitude DC 17 or be stunned 1r hitting just the dragon. He then pulls out a scroll from his pack (Freedom of Movement) and takes a 5' step toward Glimmil.

Sigh... at least I got a 1 out of the way.

Remember, anyone who had breakfast with Atol has 10 temporary hit points, +1 (morale) attack rolls/Will saves, and +4 (morale) on poison/fear saves from the heroes' feast for 12 hours.

Toffitt delays in hopes of a fog cloud but if none comes before the dragon's turn he plays dead and floats to the ground. Such are the weird physics of Pathfinder.

I understand the ruling (from IM conversation with Painlord: apparently Toffitt would not have fallen until his turn—I might suggest posting such context when possible), but being healed in the dracolich's threat range was probably the worst thing in this case. Nice sentiment though.

In that case, Toffitt uses his last hero point to drink that extra extract of echolocation he had lying around, and flies across the room to a reasonably non-charge friendly space. Thanks for patience with phone limitations.

There's still an AoO for fog cloud when you're next to him, only 20% miss chance. Total concealment isn't until after 5'. Let's call it a withdraw and then a hero point for an extra action to drink the potion if you want. I have to make pancakes for the boys, but will post your position and a map in a half hour or so.
