Takeing 20 means it takes 20 times as long and assumes you fail several times
Part of his daily routine is takeing five to ten miniutes and.standing in front of a full body mirror naked, and checking himself over for mistakes, and then shifting those mistakes away.
What made someone suspicious of me?

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

I love how this is an actual process.

Found my answer in the Change Shape monster ability in which "Unless otherwise stated, it can remain in an alternate form indefinitely." While your ability isn't identical, as the wording in the Kitsune version doesn't contradict it, I will assume you don't need to keep casting/making checks (as the spell usually lasts 1 min per CL).My question was merely if you had to keep casting it, and I am ruling no. We will assume that your disguise is always at DC 39 unless you drop it and don't spend two minutes adding it back.

As far for suspicion that I don't want to break the fourth wall and say what Vincent knows/sees/thinks. As someone is dead at the party and as you just explored some part of the house almost alone, I would say that might be reason enough to be suspicious of someone.

Will update now.

My aura is transmutation Btw
Does that affect anything?

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

I don't believe so. People who can see magic can identify that you have an active spell on you, and may identify the school is they pass a check. Alter self is only one such spell, you could have a transmutation aura to be stronger, tougher, more malleable, shapeshift et cetera.

Short of antimagic fields (Be wary of Tizona), or True Seeing (be wary of the strongest of mages), it is incredible difficult for one to deduce your true identity.

One of my previous players was disguised as well, and they later bought a ring of nondetection just to ensure that they appear normal.

The Exchange

Male Kitsune Bard (thunderstriker) 1

They can tell I have a transmutation aura, but because it is Su not Sp, they can't know what spell, you could even argue that they don't get the school, just that there is magic, but I'm not going to argue that far.
Most would assume something like the series of second level spells that add +4 to a given stat,
Generally illusion is the school you go with if you're disguising yourself.
I was saying this because of the assumption that meh was making.

Regarding the question of how to inspect the dark part of the cellar, if Raphael knows Halcyon well enough, he will probably know about her darkvision ability. She goes to lengths in public to keep this ability secret, anyone who spends time with her will gradually realize that she can see as well as anyone out to 30' and if she trusts someone enough, she will admit to having darkvision to that range.

Since it's not something we discussed, I'll leave it up to the GM and perhaps some rolls if appropriate to determine if the PCs know about this fact.

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

You all are as acquainted as you want to be. With the exception of the real secrets that some players have and hide, if everyone is good with some shared mutual knowledge, that is fine. As long as it is determined, agreed upon and stuck with, no rolls needed.

I am going to be out of town this weekend, I may get an update, but most likely there won't be one until Sunday evening or Monday. Feel free to discuss what you want to be public knowledge as far as history, abilities and goals.

For my own purposes I've put together a list of the PCs in the game and Raphael's connection to them. Feel free to comment if anything seems amiss or if anything could be expanded upon.

•Halcyon d'Orsay: Raphael and Halcyon met when Raphael had his harrow reading done on a lark at Marcus Tamarin's bar (does it have a name yet?). Impressed, but not fooled, by the elaborate tale she spun from her cards, Raphael made a point of continuing to speak with the insightful young woman. The pair still meet occasionally (generally at the same bar) to trade gossip and to chat.

Based on this, I'd say Raphael would know about her vision, if only because he's perceptive and good at sensing motives, I'd say he'd see through her bluff of being mostly blind. She'd admit that she sees better in the dark than some do in daylight up to a point.

I'd say Marcus would probably know this as well. Since she hangs out in his bar and walks the city at night without a torch.

I don't think Seth and Valentina would know this unless Marcus or Raphael had told them.

The Exchange

Male Kitsune Bard (thunderstriker) 1

Marcus would not have told him, in fact he would have suggested to you how to keep your secret better, would be to pretend that you did need the torch

Raphael isn't generally one to share information he finds willy nilly. He keeps things close to his vest, as a general rule.

When she moves about at night by herself, she generally wears a cloak and hides her face, so she is not as concerned about anyone discovering her secret in such situations. Most people only see her during the day or in well lit places, so no one is likely to sense she has darkvision, although a perceptive person might catch her reacting to some burst of sudden movement. But she has a lie ready should someone call her on it, that her vision sometimes improves temporarily, but it cannot be relied on.

In any case, Raphael wouldn't need to tell anyone about her darkvision, but he could request her presence to use her oracle abilities, which usually involve her touching something to get impressions, knowing that she could see where others cannot. She is also used to moving about in without use of her eyes (or so most will believe) and so might be able to explore the dark area without need of a candle.

Of course, there is a dwarf in the house, so he might be called on to look into the dark area. Halcyon is preoccupied at the moment.

I came across this, from Doctor Who, a fitting anthem in honor of the dearly departed Abigail.

It is called "Abigail's Song" and the woman playing Abigail is a beautiful blonde. The song is called "When you're alone, Silence is all you know."

I've been building my collection of the music from the show. And there is a lot available via U-Tube. Top notch stuff. There's an orchestra concert tour under way right now with a symphony playing music from the series, similar to some of the performances done at the Proms. Wish I could go to one, but the only US appearance is in NYC this weekend, which is not close enough for me.

Some of the companion themes might make good theme music for some NPCs.

I imagine something Jazzy for Raphael, thought that is just me. Marcus I always thought of having a more folksy, traditional ren-fair sound. Something bard-sy and lively.

Hmm turntable rivals (linsy sterling) is about the best I've found for Marcus, it doesn't quite fit but it's close, unfortunately I don't listen to much if any ren fair music
Shadows (linsy sterling) works well for his sister
Elements (same artist) works well for the little brother if he ever needs to show up (he's a bloodrager with several ranks in preform, he acts as the bar's bouncer and is a wannabe adventurer, Marcus won't let him leave because adventuring is dangerous, and at the moment is heavily considerin carefully not bringing it up that someone died at the party)

My sense is something baroque (Bach, for example) for Raphael, who is rather formal and by the book. But if you want something jazzy as well, consider this:

Bouree.

A little trolling around and I found this, another jazzy Bach piece:

BACH (Fusion Jazz) Allemande French Suite No.5-1 BWV.816-1 by European Jazz Trio

Then there's another favorite of mine:

Vanessa Mae's Bach Street Prelude

For Marcs, I love Lindsey Stirling. She has lots of fun things. My impression of him would fit any kind of traditional Irish Pub music, like this.

Anyway, it's fun considering these kinds of things.

DM Goldstool:

I was looking back over the harrow reading Halcyon gave to Blake and was intrigued to see that both the Snakebite and the Locksmith cards showed up in that reading, side by side. I had forgotten that when I selected the same two cards as the focus for the augury. It's interesting how random things like this can align.

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

To Hal:
It is funny how your oracle readings have been pretty spot on so far, and how some of the cards seem to directly relate to certain individuals or events. I'll have to call shenanigans if you continue on the streak you have so far. Or have people looking for the famous, Future-Seer Halcyon d'Orsay.

Thing I was thinking: if something happened to your deck, to get a new harrow deck as per your trait, you'd have to revisit your family for a week. Fun times, huh?

Male Kitsune Bard (thunderstriker) 1

it was what caused conjuration magics, and subsequently other magics, to be so heavily regulated

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

Oh wow, I thought I had a big post on that. Added a Crater event to the Design Doc. Posted below as well.

"Deals with devils have consequences and the city of Roland is all too familiar with the dire repercussions of contacting outsiders. Several city blocks were leveled when a presumed wizard attempted to bind a strong demon. Proving too powerful for the caster, the demon raged, destroying much of the housing, part of the city wall, and taking thousands of lives in a matter of minutes. The demon was fell from a combined effort of the entire city guard and four headmasters of the Society. While the city wall was quickly rebuilt, the ground was largely untouched, seen as a mourning ground for many. Dubbed “The Crater,” the event would go on to affect the nation.

While over in a matter of hours, the event has caused many changes in the laws of the country. Magical regulation, while often a thought in the minds of some legislators, was now on the minds of many, especially to morally or ethically questionable spells. Not well understood magic was under fire as well, thousands of witches across Murgleis feared a ban on their magics. The Headmaster of the Society and member of council Bleckhart Dupont was accused of negligence in the matter of preventing such an event. Challenged by then-Headmaster of Duelling Cornelius Voidwalker, Bleckhart stepped down from his position and Voidwaker became the leader of the Society. Voidwalker pushed the ban on necromancy and contacting outsiders with a fervor, and later extended the laws to regulate other spells across schools."

Always feel free to ask for expansion to events or what you may/may not know. The design doc was originally made to not overwhelm incoming players with too much info, but I am always willing to expand on things (and most likely I have info, just haven't put it in).

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

Added the following to the Design Doc:

Wars of Durendale Expansion:
The Wars of Durendale Expansion united what was mostly a region of loosely associated villages, small cities and cultures. Knights of Roland started their conquest to the north, focusing on taking river and port communities to haul its conquests back to the capital. While some villages would willingly join the expanding nation of Durendal, others were forced to it, or made to sign pacts of peace and loyalty. As the nation spread, so did its strength and numbers and rumors of its intent to unite the continent.

Marching south, Durendal easily took the small villages and hamlets between the western mountain ridge and the eastern sea. Men ages fifteen to forty were usually conscripted and sent to Roland to receive formal training. The Flamberge region proved more difficult to conquer. The region was united, and ready for the invasion, forming an unprecedented union of dwarf and man to prevent the northern threat. The mountains to the east proved hazardous to pass, through the sheer numbers of Durendal invaders eventually saw through the invasion.

With an unbroken control from north to south, Durendal now sought to fully secure its borders and capture the continent’s coasts. Small conscriptions of soldier now sought to protect the regions they have captured, and cleared regions of their local monster threats. The marshes of Murgleis were perhaps the most dangerous region to capture. The marshes themselves proved difficult to traverse, and their denizens were unlike the rest of the nation’s. Strange magic was prevalent here, as were dangerous creatures and magical anomalies. A soldier’s worst fear was to be sent to Murgleis, and it was rightfully so. Many corpses still lie preserved in the marshes.

Society of the Arcane Arts, 12AF:
The Wars of Durendale Expansion brought with it an influx of knowledge, skills and magic. Then-foreign spellcasters would use unknown magic to protect themselves. An early habit of the officers of Roland were to eliminate spellcasters, refocusing the fight on accustomed clashes of steel. However, Hero of Roland Olivera started the trend of using different methods. Spellcasters were never to be killed by her or her knights. If unable to create treaties or recruit a village, spellcasters would be captured and sent to Roland. If negotiations were open, spellcasters were the first thing on the table, often in exchange for protection or gold.

In a matter of a decade, spellcasters in all manners diverse and powerful had been assembled (willingly or not) in the capital of Roland. Once gathered and their spells recorded, they were free to leave, though most decided to stay. Many of these wizards and sorcerers have never seen magic outside of themselves, their masters, and their apprentices. Organizing themselves, they formed the Society of the Arcane Arts (then simply called “The Academy”). As more spellcasters would come to the capital, increasingly not by force, the largest known collective of magically gifted individuals and magical knowledge would form.

Soon a Magical Advisor would join Council, then composed of Military Leaders and Tacticians. As the Society gained power, additional chapter were made, often at the convenience of nearby spellcasters. The Society would later create schools in attempts to allow one to train in a specific magical talent, and each of these schools would be given a headmaster.

The Society building in Roland would become the main headquarters of the mages, housing the Duelling College, The College of Constructs and Magical Crafts, the College of Evocation, The College of Conjuration and Arcane Summoning and the College of Martial-Spell Arts.
The second chapter would open in Flamberge. It became a hub of alchemical knowledge and magic item creation. In the end, only the College of Alchemical Affairs would be opened there.

The third chapter would open in Hauteclere. As a region of divine significance, it quickly opened a college of Divine Relations. While not focusing on the arcane, it often deals with the studies of both Arcane and Divine and the difference between them.

The last chapter would become the second largest one. Murgleis was already a hub of magical activity, and it didn’t take long for individuals to flock to the newly opened academy. The school would host the College of Witch Magic, Patron and Hexes as its most popular college. The College of Illusion and the College of Transmutation and Transformation are also located here. While the College of Necromantic Arts once thrived here, it was abruptly closed down and banned from use after the Crater incident occurred.

Open request on any other subjects still standing. I love writing this stuff anyhow, so really isn't a problem.

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

Things that made me way too happy:
- Making a little poem for the augury.
- Valentina updating at the perfect time to Agatha, literally seconds after my Ernest post changing the time of her entry, but right before the Vincent post.

At the end of the party, I cannot wait to re-read through this all. I cannot wait to find to find my inconsistencies that surely must exist in some shape or form on my part. Like, I know one of Vincent's "quirk" was smirking, and that bled into Emile at some point.

In the original version of the game, the murder was much less meditated and the player's sleuthing skill were on a different (lower) caliber. Before it was less a mystery and more of a "who said the most questionably racist comment about Galatians/who has the most to gain?" Glad I changed it. Next post likely on Thursday, still up for adding more backstory to the design doc if anyone wants something. Otherwise, I will probably followup the Society one with what registering one's magic at the society entails.
