Scarlet Scoundrel |
"And I am glad you have arrived" the lithe tiger woman in the leather catsuit purrs as her golden eyes shine on the elven investigator.
Cyjke |
Dot
An unremarkable elf enters the room, looking a bit nervous muttering "One tiny explosion in the lab, and I'm told to report here for another assignment. Really, the room has much better ventilation with only three walls anyway."
Camaenor |
<sniffs> "Ahhh...a fellow practitioner of the art, I sense. Let me guess...sulfur dust? Perhaps with a little zinc? Yeah...lucky you only lost one wall! At least you still have your eyebrows..." Camaenor says to the new arrival, absent-mindedly rubbing his own eyebrows.
Scarlet Scoundrel |
Scarlet gets back to juggling sharp objects as she awaits a briefing...
Cyjke |
Cyjke smiles at Camaenor's comments, "Or a smoke bomb that colors you blue for a week! Believe me you don't want to go around looking like an over grown blue Gnome"

Camaenor |
He laughs at that - imagining how he would look as a big, blue creature!
DM Kludde |
Absalom, the city at the centre of the world. The most coveted city in the inner sea. For centuries, madman wizards have tried to take control of the city, raising armies, building huge siege fortresses. Nowadays, the plains outside of Absalom, the cairnlands, are literally dotted with these fortresses. Some built by famous wizards, such as the red redoubt, some by men whose name is long erased by the passage of time.
This morning, Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin gave the pathfinders a briefing on one such fortress. A recent earthquake - Ambrus explained - has cracked open a fortress that is merely called "Fallen Fortress" by the local population. Where it was previously sealed shut by magic, now an entire flank has collapsed, opening it up for exploration.
We've sent ahead a scout, but haven't heard from him since. It is your job to investigate the fortress, learn what you can, and see if you can determine the fate of our scout.
Travel from Absalom to the tower is but a short walk, which would be pleasant, save for the drizzle coming down from the sky.
The ruined siege castle now being called the Fallen Fortress rises out of the churned earth of the Cairnlands. No doors or windows mar the otherwise smooth expanse of the tower’s walls. The tower is quatrefoil in plan; its eastern wing has largely collapsed, exposing the interior floors to the open air. Only the topmost level seems whole, though its eastern portion hangs precariously over the mountain of rubble left by the collapse. At ground level, the rubble frames a gaping hole in the side of the building that provides access to the tower’s darkened interior.
Welcome everybody! Feel free to introduce your character and upload your icon to the map, while I struggle with my poor internet connection to get a picture through :)
Iskim Chanadar |
A large nagaji trudges through the cairnlands, stepping quickly despite his breastplate. He has a finely wrought greatsword strapped to his back, but otherwise has few possessions. He occasionally looks back at the others, making sure they are keeping up, but otherwise keeps his gaze fixed in the direction the group is travelling.
Scarlet Scoundrel |
Scarlet wanders alongside Iskim,
Wearing only a studded leather catsuit, and carrying only a small backpack and a crossbow, she is barely encumbered.
Her tail flicks happily as she roams through the Cairnlands, and the moisture in the air forms glistening beads on her soft downy tiger mottling.
"I wonder what the day holds..."
G'Boar S. Hulighan |
Hello everyone... look forward to learning a lot from you all. Mike
G’Boar is a rugged sort from the northern clans, betrayed by his ancestral tribal tattoos, ethnic kilted tartan, and abundant scars which tell the tale of his tempestuous upbringing. He is tall for his people, at 6’3”, but his air of confidence and self-worth make him appear somehow taller; his demeanor not being one of arrogance, but instead one of supreme confidence. His build is athletic and supremely defined, like that that of a wild animal who challenges his very essence with every physical endeavor. Such strength and endurance comes from repeated exerting ordeals, as if his very existence relied on his body’s ability to perform.
G’Boar wears studded leather armor and bracers and is as equally comfortable fighting with his traditional clan structure of the longsword and buckler as he is with his bastardized version of a woodsman’s axe. His years of needing to hunt game to stay alive have also perfected his acumen with the longbow. He wears a pack that looks painstakingly organized and containing everything one would need to survive in the wilderness for extended periods.
Greetings, may the blessings of Tinker the Great Boar, and the Lord of the Wilds, bless your path and swordarm."
Camaenor |
Clad in leather armor, with a buckler on his arm, a rapier at his hip, and carrying a short bow with the ease all of his race posses, the elf walks with a big grin on his face and a spring in his step. "I love a good misty rain! Not so much as to wash the roads away, but enough to really enhance the experience..." he says as he looks at the cat-lady from behind. "I think the day holds adventure and discovery! Exciting, is it not?!"
Scarlet Scoundrel |
Greetings, may the blessings of Tinker the Great Boar, and the Lord of the Wilds, bless your path and swordarm."
"How about my path and my reflexes, as I don't even have a sword" the catwoman jests "Things tangle and get in the way when I'm trying to tumble and roll"
"Every day is exciting and we never know what might unfold, Desna smiles Desna laughs and occasionally she's out at lunch right when we need her most - I'm hoping she's paying attention because I am not sure how many of my nine lives I am up to"
Cyjke |
A tall elf with his cloak wrapped about him keeping the rain out, keeps in step with the group as they approach the tower.
Cyjke is wearing studded leather armor, and a long sword at his side along with several small bottles of unknown substances. He comments bleakly "The rain is an excellent start to an otherwise ordinary excursion. That tower doesn't look very safe, half of it has already fallen. Do we really want to enter it?"
Scarlet Scoundrel |
"Of course we do, just tread carefully and gently" Scarlet encourages "I'll go first to test the footing"
Scarlet pushes out in front, snaking a course along.
DM Kludde |
The sound of rushing wind and trickling of water is suddenly disturbed by a loud barking coming from the tower. It seems three dogs have made their home among the rubble, and they don't look kindly to visitors.

He bears the mutts no ill will, but Cameanor didn't like being bitten, either. Unless she was really pretty... He draws an arrow and fires at the southern dog. (red) But the surrounding rubble effectively blocks the shot.

DM Kludde |
I forgot to say: the rubble is difficult terrain...
G'Boar S. Hulighan |
G'Boar swiftly readies his bow. His nature is to resist killing these simple creatures, as he personally knows what it is like to fight for your very survival; however he also knows that there is very little that would cause him to yield if his very existence was on the line so he narrows his vision on a single patch of fur over the vital organs of the northern most dog (blue) and in what seems like a single motion nocks, draws, aims, holds a breath, releases, and exhales... Sending his arrow soaring. He yells, "Bás beast salach!"
Raged Attack vs. Dog(blue): 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 3 = 12
Damage?: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
additional +2 comes from Favored Enemies - Animal
DM Kludde |
Scarlet fires her crossbow, and puts a dog to sleep immediately. Camaenor's shot hits the rubble. Iskim then moves up, while G'Boar takes a dog off-guard and nearly kills another with that shot. Cyjke moves forward with Iskim.
The dogs move up and are ready to snap at anything within range. (Ready attack)

ROUND TWO
G'Boar swiftly loads another arrow on his ancient longbow, and with a motion perfected through immeasurable repetition looses another arrow at the northernmost mongrel. But the distance and the rush of his companions forward cause him to pull his shot high, just missing the animal's head and smashing into a large boulder just behind the pack.
Ranged attack vs Dog (blue): 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 3 = 7
Damage?: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11
ahh the natural '2', the curse of my short play-by-post career!
DM Kludde |
Cyjke's dagger is sufficient to bring down the second dog, slicing directly through the neck artery of the creature. Camaenor hits the final dog, and another shot by G'boar flies around its ears. The dog turns its tail, and flees.
Combat over
Iskim Chanadar |
Iskim moves forward, entering the ruins and examining the area for any other threats.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Scarlet Scoundrel |
The clicking sound of a crossbow being rewound suggests Scarlet has retrieved her weapon. She then continues forward to the tower.
DM Kludde |
The the passage to the southern wing is open, but its pretty clear that the wing is completely blocked by rubble.
The northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.
Iskim Chanadar |
Iskim searches for anything of interest, then moves on, through the archway.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
G'Boar S. Hulighan |
G'Boar follows in the northern opening fourth, arrow at the ready. He strains his eyes looking for anything interesting, be it friend or foe.
He whispers in his distinctive brogue, "Does anyone have any torches? I failed to secure any before leaving Absalom..."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
ahhh, that's more like it!
DM Kludde |
The group moves through the northern archway. In the cobweb-filled room, it is only in the nick of time that G'Boar and Scarlet spot a spider lurking from the ceiling.

G'Boar's arrow hit the spider in the fat belly, and a thick gooey substance drips out. The arachnid retaliates by throwing a web at Iskim, engulfing him in a mass of sticky strands.

Scarlet fires her crossbow, and before the spider can react, G'Boar has reloaded and fires again. With that last arrow, the spider bursts open and falls down from the ceiling.
Combat over!
A small cocoon hangs in the webs, holding the remains of an unfortunate dog that fell into the spider’s clutches. The desiccated carcass is still wearing its leather collar, which is studded with lapis lazuli stones and has a silver tag reading “Kita.”
Beyond the room with the spider, another rubble-strewn area can be seen, with a door leading to the middle of the tower.

G'Boar points out a small cocoon holding the remains of what must have been someone's pet with an adorned collar with the name Kita inscribed.
