I'm gonna say no, because that... doesn't really make sense to me. I could see using street cred for cash, but karma's just experience. You'll get money, don't worry.
Also, sorry for the delay on moving things up. I've been working on the final presentation for a class and it's happening tonight, so I'll try and update this once that's done with later on.
Anya "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Fair nuff, fair nuff. =)
Just FYI, the post that explained it is here.
It seems to be a logical extension of of the choice of spending more BP on either Skills or Gear, threaded out to gameplay, choosing to spend more Karma on Skills or Gear. The idea being that you can choose to spend time at the range, or time checking your stocks, or whatever. Jus' sayin.' ^_^
Good luck on your presentation! When in doubt, make a graph, then talk about the graph. Then talk about how things would be different if the graph was different. It all but writes itself! =p
Nicholas "Nick Sarge" Smith |
Hey guys! First thing first, I've been helping my lil sis move out and we finished today so expect a post before late.
And second but not less inportanr, some concern has been raised regarding Anya spoiler.
Gotta say we talked extensively before starting and reached a deal: our characters have a romantic common past, but we don't recognise each other as of now.
I do like how she did it, because it felt like a black & white flashback. Something we the players know but our characters don't. And I'm excited waiting for the moment Nick and Anya catch up with the info... but that will be when the situation presents itself.

Apologies again for just posting now--the weekend became unexpectedly busy in a good way when I ended up going to a concert with my younger brother. Very enjoyable, but took up some time both in the event and traveling to/from it, and left me pretty tired yesterday. This week looks like relatively smooth sailing, though, so I hope to be updating more frequently.
Friendly Neighborhood Fixer |
My apologies that I didn't update today--I went to a parade this afternoon to support my younger sister, who's in the local high school marching band, and then had an unexpected but enjoyable event tonight where I ran a session of D&D for my younger brother and his friends, most of whom were first-timers. Very fun, and I'm always happy to help introduce people to the hobby if they're interested, but obviously time-consuming and a tad draining. My schedule is wide open tomorrow, as far as I know, though, so I'll update then!
Nathaniel Kenson; "Paladin" |
So, seeing the spoiler that related to someone else's Knowledge skills reminded me that I never chose my knowledge skills! That has been rectified, so feel free to take a look at what I chose and make sure it's all on the right spot in regards to "general vs. specific" when it comes to knowledge. Also, I'm sure it'll only come up once, but I can't wait for the day I get to roll "Gourmet Cooking" as a skill check.
Phineas Madigan |
Hah! I hadn't noticed that either!
As a general observation: Try to keep in mind what you know about the other characters and what you don't know. Like Nathaniel's "name" being Paladin. ;) I think most people have a description of their characters and if not, I think we have a pretty good idea of what they look like (and when in doubt, don't hesitate to ask!)
As another example, Phineas didn't cast a spell, and there was essentially no indication that he did anything at all. (This is one of the reasons why mages are so dangerous. Unless you've got some way to see it, or the effect is visible, there's just no way to know). Spirits aren't normally able to be seen unless they manifest unless people use astral perception. In this case, I certainly don't mind. I think that'll work out well as a way to get Phineas into the group (unless FNF had a better plan.) Just, let's be careful how we handle character knowledge in a game about misdirection and the power of knowledge. ;)

So to confirm the plan before posting with just how far off the tracks it goes (heh), this is what I think is happening with people...
--Victoria (Nix) is sneaking off back to the Stuffer Shack to retrieve the car
--Nathaniel (Paladin) is staying at Stooby and Joeby's to try and see if there's anything on the Matrix about the Shack events yet
--Anya (Wraith) is also staying at Stooby and Joeby's as an extra gun
--Sylvie (Gauntlet) and Nick (Sarge) are heading to the Lumen to sniff out a several-days-old Johnson meet
--Phineas is asleep at home, blissfully unaware of this unfolding of events
Is that right?
Nathaniel Kenson; "Paladin" |
I believe our goal specifically is to track down Phineas, for the moment. Otherwise, that seems to be the plan, except for the fact that Anya is picking things up from both mine and Nick's apartment? I'm much better with my shotgun (and it deals more damage), so I'd rather have it, certainly. Also, it gives you the chance to potentially interact with his... colorful roommate Cuervo.

Alright, long day getting back to school, so I'll try and get something up at some point, as in typing for myself, and maybe I'll be able to get it posted tonight, but it may not be until tomorrow or even Thursday (although I'm hoping for tomorrow at the latest).
Loup Blanc |
No, you're waiting on me to post. Which I should have gotten around to by now, but I just haven't. Sorry, all. This afternoon should have a decent-ish time slot for me to move things. I don't know that I could put a finger on what kept me from posting earlier, but I've been in and out of lots of work and it's a bit draining mentally. Weekends usually make it easier to post, though.
Friendly Neighborhood Fixer |
Just as a check-in I like to do every now and again, how are people liking the game so far? Obviously the pacing could be a lot better on my end, and I hope that's going to get better as time goes on. But any other thoughts people have? I apologize if it seems like you've been stonewalled on the investigation front, but don't worry, you'll find 'em eventually.
Sylvie "Gauntlet" Staite |
I'm personally enjoying. After all, good slow GMing is better than mediocre fast GMing.
Phineas Madigan |
So far, so good. In my experience a lack of momentum is a killer for a long term game, but lulls happen. There's a balance to be had in cutting down on the minutia in some conversations and just moving things along to the next scene. It's a tough balance to find, but I think so far we're doing fine on it, and I expect as we get rolling even that will get a bit tighter.

Full update tomorrow (maybe, Wednesdays are sh*tty), but for now I'll note: I don't want to shut down ideas, and by all means do as you wish, but Nathaniel did raise a decent point for travel. Boston does have a solid public transportation system in the T, and in all honesty that's probably a lot easier for travel than a car on a weekday. Also, if you guys are planning to show up early or simply don't have anything else you want to do before the meet, let me know (probably here). Getting there early will have its consequences.
Sylvie "Gauntlet" Staite |
I think we'd like to get there early, like Nick said, so we can scope out the place and plan just in case it's a setup.
Phineas Madigan |
I'm guessing Phineas would show up around a half hour early? Ish? The T isn't going to get him there quick, and it is probably a bit of a walk both ways, and he's in no rush. But it's still three hours. So I'd say he'll probably get there, even wasting time, at least a half hour early. He'll spend at least 10-15 minutes or so walking around the block and looking around before going in. (Barring some craziness.)
Friendly Neighborhood Fixer |
In lieu of excuses or reasons, I'll just give an apology: I'm sincerely sorry it's taken me this long to update. I'm now in the final week of classes at school, with a week of final exams to follow, and that workload has been steadily eating away at time; likewise, other personal commitments have been keeping me busy as well. None of that necessarily kept me so tied up that I couldn't get up a post, especially a simple one to the tune of "I'm busy, sorry guys," but my mind's been all over the place lately and it's been hard to make myself sit down and formulate a full, coherent post responding to developments.
So, again, my apologies. Posting for me is likely to stay kind of slow the next week or two, but hopefully it can pick up a little bit as time moves on (although by then we're hitting the holiday season, and I've got a family trip planned in early-mid-January...). I'm doing my best, so please hang in there if you can, everyone! I really hope for all my games to be wonderful things and I'm in it for the long haul--delays may come and go, but I don't plan on disappearing or shutting things down.
Friendly Neighborhood Fixer |
To clarify, where is all this conversation happening? At the door? I intended to update this later today or tomorrow, depending on how busy I am, but things are moving around a little oddly with placement and timelines. Has someone actually entered the pub at this point? (Nathaniel was going to, but then people started talking to him, including Sylvie, who presumably would mention what she noticed before getting close to the entrance, so things have gotten a bit muddled.)
Sylvie "Gauntlet" Staite |
I think the main group (Sarge, Nix, Wraith, Gauntlet, Paladin) arrived, and Sylvie did some recon, before bumping into Victoria. They made small talk, which turned into smack talk, and Paladin was about to enter the bar when Sylvie noticed the guy in the trillby and told him about it.
Friendly Neighborhood Fixer |
Just dropping this in Discussion for all the games I'm running: Much as I'd love to break my horrible pacing and post in here, finals are taking up a ton of my time between writing essays, putting together portfolios, and studying for exams. I sincerely hope to have time to post on Wednesday, but it's not very likely; Thursday is probably the best bet, since I'll be done by then and heading home for winter break. Hopefully you can all hang in until that point!
