Hey all, sorry for the radio silence. Was sent on two seperate business trips where I thought I would have time to do things. Though the idea of networking for old scientists appears to be drinking late at night so I have been rather exhausted going to and from, both destinations were 4 hours away, I know that's like part of a state for most of you across the pond but a long way in the UK!

I have another trip in a week that I have to prepare for then I'm in Japan for a month. My free time has basically been taken out back and shot. I can try to keep posting but I know a post a week is really slow and might not be worth it through paizo's servers sometime. (For example I tried to get this out yesterday but paizo/nostore strikes agian.)

Basically I am willing to keep going but I will fully admit that my free time is not what it used to be and it's a struggle to get consistent. I don't want to feel like I'm wasting people's time. So I will understand if people want this to be the end, real life is hard and always getting in the way of things.

Anyway what do people think in general?

Hmm. It is sometimes quite hard to play in a low frequency pbp. You forget so much, not just of the overarching plot but also what happened just a moment ago, that each post takes even more time and the hype is harder to build.

On the other hand - this game still has plenty of mysteries to poke at. And I like it. Plus I'm not really going anywhere :-P

So. I'm okay with putting this game on a slow burn. Either there's time to pick up the pace later or we'll just get through it a lot slower. Or it simply fades away. But for the investment of occasionally making a post and double checking stuff I'm okay with it :-)

My other game is an even more slow burn and I am also not going anywhere. I check every day for updates and if there are none, I continue to migrate my highest level character from 2nd Edition to Path Finder. And yeah, what is up, or should I say down, with Paizo lately?

Another thing, I was going to role play Nethan's transformation but due to time, maybe I should just fast forward that along and summarize personal and group preparations?

LOL, and welcome to Enterprise/Real World IT. I have a vendor that wants to do happy hour tonight and I will not be able to make it. Maybe if it was closer to home or there was better public transit like most places outside of the US I would but after drinking, I still have a 45 min to 1 hour car commute.

For me, I'm checking Paizo pretty regularly. So when I see something going on here, I can go with it. Doesn't really matter when the update happens. I think it's up to you, and whether it's a burden on your schedule.

I also agree with Amelia's answer on if it is ok with you GM Radiance. You need to be happy with whatever pace you set and extra work you do for us.

August and I'm not sure exactly what they're changing, except tons of little things here and there. By the sound of it character creation at least is going to be more like starfinder is now (race + class + 'theme') if I got that right.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out!


Huh new edition? That's a surprise and a half. And new website! Let's hope this one breaks less. Okay back from stuff for a bit, I think, so I should be posting a little more regularly. I'll try to do something like M-W-F or at least 3 days as best I can during the week. I will post in the morning as it's late here by the time I got back.

Might mull over the crazy responses to PF 2.0. I am both intrigued and concerned that they are taking bits from 4e/5e at least by the description. Intrigued because let's hope they take the good bits, concerned because I know the player base can go up in arms at the word 'change'. Oh well, I'm excited for the future either way. (provided time comes by way again.)

A lot of people who like Pathfinder seem to hate 4E, so I can't believe they'd want to even imply such a connection.

Welcome back indeed! I think the forums are more stable. My main downside is that I need to go to the Campaign tab on my main alias to see games that have updated.

I agree Tazo, it took me a bit to find how to get to it quickly without favorites. Not very user interface friendly.

I never noticed the campaign window disappearing but I guess that's because I always use my main alias to look at campaigns.

With regards to the 4e stuff, I know not many people like it especially for PF players. The thing is though 5e took a lot of 4e-isms.. I guess you could call them and obfuscated them by calling them something familiar. Let's take hitdice for example, this is basically healing surges and functions pretty much like healing surges. It's just not called that.

PF 2.0 from what I have seen with the previews is doing the same with a few things. Though, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Most issues people had with 4e from what I have seen is the whole W/E/D/U paradigm for pretty much everything. Also making multiclassing a little dumb. Thankfully PF2 does not seem to be doing that. It is taking bits and pieces however and again obfuscating it a little.

For example, passive perception, a thing started in 4e (as far as DnD goes) is being added. They are also getting rid of it as a skill, sort of, your class gives you a bonus to it. It's entirely based on your class and possibly feats.

The universal 'one reaction' was added to 4e (interrupt or reaction denoting timing) is also being added to PF2.

Flatfooted and conditions like it in PF2 are just 'combat advantage', not called such though amount to the same thing.

Keywords are becoming a thing, pretty similar to the 4e keyword system just affecting different things. So Slow 2 for example, makes you lose 2 of your 3 actions in a turn.

Action poi... *scribble scribble* hero points are baseline.

Classes getting their main stat to damage to get rid of MAD, again a thing in 4e though I have a feeling that it won't be melee wis to damage or something. I think it's just going to be dex/str classes making sure they only need one of the stats not both. (Speaking of that initiative is based on your perception.)

Proficiency is not going to be like the 5e system but scale a bit with level. It will just not be called half-level bonus *cough*.

Acrobatics/Atheletics being used for most maneuvers, a thing 4e started and carried to 5e. Now in PF2.

EDIT: Oh and they are just ripping the 4e feat system it seems. Feat every other level (mostly) and divided feats to have them come from class/race/background as well as general feats. A thing that was a cornerstone to class difference in 4e. So that's a pretty big one.

Again I'm not saying any of this is a bad thing, as they are putting good spins on things. I'm just saying there are things from 4e in there even if people don't notice it. Though the big push seems to stem from 5e in KISS, we'll see how that goes. I am content that they are actually tackling the martial/caster disparity as that is still one of my issues from 5e at higher levels. Same in PF which is why I like E6. Though I guess E8 would work in PF too, might try it one day.

On a side note for those that didn't like 4E at all, I'd recommend trying Gloomhaven (a board game) that is basically 4e done right, as in a dungeon crawler crunch game and nothing but that.

Thanks for the positive spin on 4E! I agree the main problem is the W/E/D/U paradigm for pretty much everything is annoying. It makes the classes feel like cookie cutters of each other, instead of making each mechanically different. I loved the healing surge concept and would be happy to see a reduced need for a dedicated healer (hooray Wand of Valor!) Hero points are also fun, though they strongly favor spellcasters.

I am excited for the possibility of parity between the classes, and I hope they achieve that by making martials stronger at high levels instead of using the nerf hammer on casters. Martials need to be able to do some crazier things.

There may be certain spins but 5E has the return of character focus but better. I really like the 5E Cleric, still very effective at healing but can actually fight now depending on the focus you take. What I didn't like about 4E was its MMO feel. When I read the instructions, it was like reading the Lord of the Rings Online or Star Wars The Old Republic (Online) instruction menu.

I do like the action economy like you can cast shield the same round as you cast another 1 or 2 action spell or flagship spell like magic missile for two APs for extra effects. Each spell will come with an action cast and the flagship spells will come with various features for how many actions you use for certain effects. Action economy also applies to other classes.

@Nethan: Yea that's the issue most problem had, basically it felt like the box was too constraining. It made the game more balance but it felt more akin to a boardgame. I think if they had released with the essentials line first it would have been more well received.

Wait let me rephrase that, I know it would have been better received as that is what 5e is. Very similar to essentials with some of the worse bits of 4e shaved off, such as skill challenges. That's neither here nor there but I found out why I'm seeing a lot of similarities to some of 4e's better mechanics, one of the 4e alumni is working on PF2.

Anyway I'll still be watching the updates as they come out. Hopefully they rethink the resonance mechanic on consumables, otherwise that seems alright, despite the complaints.


I swear the world conspires against me. Will post now and Friday probably. Hopped up on painkillers and antibiotics, fun times.

Thanks for the concerns, I'll be okay. I thought I basically smacked my mid-section over the weekend or something. Ended up being internally infected. So it'll be a little pain for a while. I should be fine checking into the thread though. So plans for diving into the forest or avoiding the creatures flying into the skies? :)

Glad to hear you are OK, sounds like your body is trying to tell not to work so much ... :-) Cisco was working one of my Computer Network Engineering colleagues so much and had him traveling everywhere. He quit Cisco and became a consultant. Now he can actually enjoy life instead sleeping on a plane every day or night.

Ahem. Anyhow! I just wanted to say thanks for the game guys. It have been fun. I'm a bit sad it doesn't look like we'll finish - but still it had been a fantastic journey :-)

I also wanted to send Radiance my best wishes. I hope the infection wasn't bad and that you are okay. And that it's just some priorities that shifted and nothing dangerous or anything!

Still though if you ever feel like picking this up or just want to say hi and put some lingering anxieties to rest I'd be delighted!

I've had a ball with this game, and it really sold me on the M6 mechanics. I've never seen a game with such an epic, LotR feel! I'd be happy to keep going, but I'm glad for what we did.
