Barret:
You hear a faint sobbing and the clanking rattle of chains, while at the same time being filled with a momentary sensation of hopelessness and the strange feeling of heavy manacles clamping over your wrists.

"Someone is crying somewhere." As Barret looks around before he looks down at his wrists. He rubs them to make sure there he isn't being manacled. As soon as he is sure he isn't being chained, he starts exploring the room.

Sorin watches Barret as he moves into the room, "I hear nothing Barret. Is it coming from this room or somewhere else in the prison?" He steps up behind Barret as the fellow Kellid moves into the room.

Definitely agree with Merian taking the wand. I don't think Sorin has fully earned the trust of everyone yet either.

"I do not know. And I hear chains too."


Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

"But Barrett, where is it coming from, I too am oblivious of this sound?" the mage looks on perplexed. He watches Barrett in his quest to find the noise, yet wondering why Sorin doesn't hear it either. Both are looking and heading closer to it, or so he thinks. He stops, his ears set intently listening, but nothing. This is very strange. He chants and looks using the power of magic, detecting magical energies residing in the place.

Casts Detect Magic and scans the room from the doorway for 3 rounds.

Merian frowns, also not hearing or seeing anything.

Dillan looks at Barret, "I hear nothing as well, perhaps more foul play by our local spectres?"

The rogue moves into the room taking his time to look about the place...

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 +4= 21 vs hearing conversations, finding traps, concealed or secret objects

"It is possible that this is the work of spirits." Barret agrees with Dillan.

You all hear a clatter from the far side of the room as a set of manacles seemingly comes to life and begins to move towards Barret...


Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan stands almost frozen as the manacles animate and begin moving of their own will, "Ummm, is anyone else seeing this?" The rogue asks hoping that this is indeed actually happening.

Sorin raises his bow and nocks an arrow, "Oh yes, that I am definitely seeing." He fires the arrow at the manacles.

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

Merian reaches out to touch Barret's shoulder as she chants, "Debesis, aizsargātu šis cilvēks no šīs pasaules ļaunumu." Casting protection from evil on him.

"Yes, I told you I heard chains." Barret responds to Dillan. He prepares himself to fight off the chains.

Sorin's arrow flies true, striking sparks from the animated manacles which twist as if that hurt!

The manacles then launch an attack on Barret...

Manacles' initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
And their attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Dillan moves to a flanking position (safely) and attacks with his sword...

Initiative 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Shortsword 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 +2 (Flanking)= 16 to hit

Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 + 1d6 ⇒ 3 Sneak Attack = 6 dmg total

The manacles attempt to strike at Barret and you see the red glow in his eyes as he becomes enraged. His now black and auburn hands grow wicked claws as he lashes out with them at the manacles that had dared to try to strike him.

With flank from Dillan included.

1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Merian looks for a way to get close enough to attack the manacles as well, striking out with her sword when she does. Longsword attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Sorin grins seeing his arrow strike true and watching the attacks of his friends.

The swarthy Kellid watches as his companions resume their search of the room, wondering if other debris is apt to animate in this abandoned prison. He continues holding his bow, ready to nock another arrow if further threats emerge.

That search check will do: apart from debris and some more manacles (not as frisky as the set you've destroyed!) there is nothing else to be found... apart from a board with the gaol rules painted neatly upon it.

Barret brings up the rear of the party, rather quiet. Well relatively to how he normally is.

Tre watched the struggle with the manacles intently, Interesting how such an inanimate object is able to gain such life, there is much that is magical in here, hmmmm!. He joins Merian to read the rules of the prison, trying to glean any further information that will help them as they move through the prison. He eventually follows on whispering to Dillian as he leaves, "Be careful my friend, there is much that is unusual here."

The gaol rules are not madly informative. Mostly stuff about what property you are allowed to keep in your cell, obeying guards' instructions immediately and without question... and lots of punishments for the merest infraction!

Looking back and seeing Merian's gesture the rogue nods. He looks to his left, down the hall, then slowly proceeds in that direction...

All is quiet, although it seems that the wind is getting up a bit outside.

The door does not appear to be locked... hoever Dillon's keen senses detect a lingering odour of burning meat.

Dillan pauses with the unexpected smell coming from the door, he looks to the others; he wiggles two fingers infront of his nose and makes a slight sniffing motion, shrugs, the gestures at the door.

He draws his sword and once the others signal their ready; he opens the door.

Barret sees Dillan's gestures and moves closer to the front, next to him. He cracks his knuckles in anticipation for whatever lay behind that door.

This stark room contains a low stone bench against the north wall and a ruined desk to the west that sits under three narrow, barred windows. An old brass brazier lies on its side to the south, surrounded by several rusty branding irons.
