Thanks for submitting feedback, it really helped find the weak spots of the campaign. I hope the following patch will improve the game!
Patch 1.1
Every PC now has unlimited respawns. When a character respawns for the first time, the character takes a penalty to hit points, losing 2 hit points per level. Any additional respawn caused by death will not further decrease hit points. Instead, each additional respawn causes the character's Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma score to permanently decrease by 1, chosen randomly. (Note: this is not ability drain, but an actual decrease in the score). Whenever a party defeats a boss, all characters who participated in the fight fully regain all hit points lost, and negate 1 point of ability decrease.
Instead of collecting a daily soul tax which penalizes the entire group, covenant "Order of Sheep" now increases the number of souls needed to level up by 25%. For example, if a 2nd level Sheep character wanted to reach 3rd level, he would need 30 x 1.25 = 37(.5) souls instead of 30 souls. And as usual, Sheep do not suffer any penalties for dying.
Balanced bosses. Not necessarily on the easier side, but definitely more on the fair side. (I have all bosses planned on paper and stats for the nearest four, in case you were wondering.)

Ushio Takei |

Sorry! My week has been quite hectic recently with schooling and tutoring entering the equation. Everything has sorta turned to shambles with me... Much like Ushio.
If i may still come back, May I?
If no, as to posting arrangements and time constraints and so forth, I absolutely understand. It was fun playing Ushio while he lasted.
Whatever the case, Congrats on the first boss guys! I looked at the posts and wow, he was tough! Elyna almost didn't make it either!

GM MG |

You're still in the game, silly. Welcome back. Your respawn time (2 hours) is almost up, so you'll be respawning pretty soon. If you feel like posting something, feel free to roleplay your decision to respawn while in some sort of death-limbo, as (vaguely) described in this post.
By the way if any of you ever feel like changing your character, you are always entitled to one free rebuild. Let me know if a need arises.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Do we get a refund at all on the souls we already gave over to the order of sheeple?
And I was wondering if you could give us some insight on how the shade orb works. It looks like it could be cool, and I need it for covenant devotion, but I don't imagine it works exactly like it does in Dark Souls.
Ushio, feel free to take a level out of our souls. We already set some aside for you. Pahleg as well once we get to a resting point.

GM MG |

Oh right, the refund. You owe them 1 soul. It applies retroactively. By having one level-up (20 souls) when as a Sheep you should've spent 25% more (25 souls). You already paid 4 souls, so you're 1 soul short. Or maybe we'll just forget it and keep it simple.
The shade orb works more or less like this:
1) Select a boss you want to help NPCs with. Right now the only boss you know is the scorpion, but you can also select "any boss", in which case you'd get to battle a boss you haven't faced before (about the same level as the scorpion). It's up to you.
2) Specify your shade contract. This is free-form, and completely up to you. It could be "15% of the reward", "give me a rare item!" or something else. Of course, if the contract is unreasonable no one will summon you.
3) In time you'll be summoned. This is the moment the shade orb is consumed. The rest of the party goes on doing things while Kekkle is fighting for his life somewhere else. (Thank god for PbP for allowing to split the party!)
The shade business likely won't disturb the game too much. Shade Orbs are very rare and each shade session increases your rank in Order of Sheep by one.
I dunno, if this mechanic ends up being unfun or boring or otherwise bad we can just forget it. But I think it's worth experimenting!

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Fair enough, forget I brought it up!
Is there any limits on to when I can be summoned? Like if I were in the middle of a boss fight myself? Is there any penalty for dying as a shade (even as order of the sheep I still have to wait for a respawn)?
It sounds like a cool mechanic! I'm glad the party isn't forced to wait around for me to be done before continuing on!

Well... technically there isn't any limit, but I can guarantee that the moment you are summoned won't be a total BS moment like in the middle of combat.
Dying as a shade has the regular penalties, except as a Sheep you suffer none. Oh, and you do have to wait 1d6 hours if you do die. That time is universal and can never be shortened.

I seriously love this game.
*blush*

Ushio Takei |

ALRIGHTY!
Now, where were those penalties on first death?...

Where did that page go....?

Top of this page, actually.

Ushio Takei |

... ... Duly noted XD
Thank you

Ushio Takei |

Ushio will still be Ushio... What amount of him comes back though, i cannot vouch for.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Alright, new Kekkle is ready to rock and roll!
To get
1) Medium Armor
2) Shortsword
3) Lvl 3
4) Seek the sun
Pahleg, remember to level up when you rest.
Ulrich, I've got an enlarge person spell for ya whenever you need it, just say the word.
Where do ya'll want to go from here? I want to try and see how far we can go upwards. Maybe this labyrinth goes above ground.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Pahleg and Ushio is all we had budgeted for, it'll put us down 26. After that it's you, and then myself or Ulrich depending on need.
GM, where did we find that second suit of Hollow Soldier Armor? I may want to take a detour.
Pahleg is wearing it, I believe. There is plenty of leather armor and an unclaimed buckler.

Ahhh, that's right. I recall that discussion now.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Also- for 3 souls we can buy a suit of studded leather- I'm guessing they're all medium sized armors unless stated otherwise? We could get that for Ushio's AC.
Also- identify the ring! We spent so much on it!

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Ahh, so maybe we can retroactively get stuff for Elyna from the merchants? It looks like the options are studded leather or a breastplate for armor and a few different martial weapons.

Pahleg |

Man, I just keep feeling so bad about how greedy I'm being and how you guys keep wanting to buff me. I know it makes sense logically, and that crunch-wise it's a smart move to make sure the healer is powerful, but I still feel bad.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Nyet, we've all been very diplomatic up to now and you've gotten the souls you've gotten because everyone has agreed to lend them.
For example, you and Ulrich get first pick of armor in this case because I can cast Shield on myself, which'll keep me decently protected until I get something for meself.
As an aside, I'm still at 7 hp from our last scrap.

Ushio Takei |

Hey, I'm going to be doing some airplane travel to Washington tonight, so i won't be posting for, like, 12 hours or so. I'm still packing, but have no worries, all is good. Post for everyone soon.
I'll get my character updated quite soon, expected in next post.

Definitely. You may make any retroactive purchases related to Elyna's armor now.

Quite alright. Happy travel!

Ushio Takei |

Ushio Is Level 2!
Updated correctly? Quite certain. 90% Positive.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Elyna, don't forget that we can retroactively arm and armor you from the skeleton merchant's stores- anything that's infinite in stock can be found in Small.

Ushio Takei |

16 skill ranks, when you get 8+0 per level...
8+5+2*0-4 = 9 hp...Looks good, but where are you putting your FCB?
FCB? Hmm, i guess i haven't thought about that in this character... Sadly. I'll throw it into health, god knows i will kinda need it.
But, as well, The last couple days have been jam packed with stuff and a second to myself is what i get when exhausted from the 'sights to see' and 'places to be' in Washington.
So I don't think that i'll be posting again till I get back to my more homey state. For now, management of even internet posts has been awful for me.
... See you all in a few days... Thursday i'm guessing... Feel free to use Ushio as cannon fodder or scout until i get back. No worries if injury comes to him, i won't be displeased or like "Why'd you do that?". It is absolutely fine; I will in earnest try and make up for my missing participation when i get back. You know, if it is still possible; Who knows with the deadliness of this game XD

Pahleg |

I have a very busy few days. Pahleg will cast spiritual weapon and then use his reach to stab the creature, but if anybody takes significant damage he will heal them.
Will also get a response to the death up later.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

I've been tracking the Ogre's AC and I'm 99% sure it's 17 which is a bit of a pain for us to break (with the exception of Elyna). Instead of making a bunch of attacks that don't have a chance of connecting we should try and use Aid Another, I think.
I've included damage rolls on my last post. Pahleg goes just before me. If he were to succeed an Aid Another action it would put me at just high enough to damage the Ogre.
Also, GM, I think you lost track of the Spiritual Weapon in the last post.

GM MG |

Oh right, you're absolutely correct. It lasts three rounds, so there's two attacks missing. I also forgot the burning fire damage...
Attack 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Um, the ogre is KO'd.
I am reminded of this OotS strip...

GM MG |

So, anyway, *cough*...
Prior the fight, Pahleg made a pretty good post:
Memory magic perhaps? Very disconcerting. Pahleg is very torn on the situation. He wants to help the man and his allies, but he doesn't know enough about this Furnace and Hellfire to know if it's something evil that should actually be destroyed. But his thoughts are torn when he hears footsteps and he turns. "Somebody is approaching from behind us."
I think you as a party could take time to discuss some things. Some things that may "make you go 'hmmmmm'":
1) Now that you've heard a bit more of Hellfire's side of the story do you still wish to follow them?
2) What's up with the Explorers' Guild, anyway?
3) There's been some closed doors around here... one near Felisse's lab, another near the corporal's resting place...
4) The fog wall near the bookshelf room is also there...
5) What's with the whole memory thing?
6) The area where the crestfallen person died was left pretty much unexplored.
7) Felisse mentioned something about other covenants
8) Should at least someone pay attention to the item description lore?
