Lilia Aconite |
"The kopesh and the spear are the work of a master craftsman and real weapons, not showpieces, they should be pretty valuable, especially to collectors. The shield is Alive it is a real live bug somehow shaped into a shield, I would guess its either the work of an alchemist or of a druid, whoever made it knew what he was doing, as its still alive, this shield is extremely valuable to my research, it alone might be worth all my travels to this region, I should be able to find out, how to feed it, if necessary at all, we don't want it to die, after it survived for so long."
Lilia, beaming with excitement, pets the shield and gives it a closer inspection.
[take 10 on Knowlege(Nature), what kind of bug is it, does it still have a mouth, what do those bugs eat, does the bug still look healthy(taking 10 on Heal if needed), is it male or female (either for breeding or giving it a pet name :3), does this species of bug have any special abiltys(like poison, spiting nasty stuff, ...)[/ooc]

Lilia's K/Nature check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
The scarab is known as a Buckler Beetle, a species native to the Citrine Wastes but thought to be extinct. The beetle has an extremely hard shell and can be trained to cling to the forearm and act as a shield. Upon command, the beetle will actually fly around its owner and deflect ranged strikes. This beetle seems to be in some sort of hibernation, which isn't unusual for insects when there's no food source available. At this size, it probably eats a mixture of vegetation and dung. You are guessing this one is female.

I'll assume you're opening the remaining three chests and urn as well.
Examination of the contents of all four chests reveals mostly papers, many of which are rolled up and stuffed into scroll tubes. There is a sack, however, containing 100 ancient Scapolite gold coins (the currency of the Citrine Kingdom at the time) and 42 ancient Scapolite silver coins. Inside the urn is a potent, oily liquid which Gil recognizes as nard, a commonly used perfume in the region.
Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Bastion seems elated at their discovery. " Good work everyone! It seems within the first hour of venture we have recovered quite a cache. Private Aconite, you say that the shield is.. alive. Quite amazing and of good quality. If the weapons are useable I would suggest using them, their value wont decrease from simple use. I have seen these weapons, these Khopeshes, I can use one if needed. The Spear can go to anyone else. If you somehow get that shield to work I hope it is useful. Now let us explore the next f=door below. Private Quart, if you will? " Gesturing for the man to follow him.
As he walks out he looks to Gil and nods, " Those papers could be important for later along with the other chests. Please accompany Private Quartz and I, Private Odalis.. I don't want any more surprises when it comes to this tomb, and you've shown to be quite the Hammer. " moving to the Southern door this time and preparing to open it.
JGray |
Once again, Bastion and Dorian work together to shove the stone doors open. There's another set of stairs leading down a short way and another set of stone doors which are just as easily opened.
Beyond the door is another 20 by 20 foot chamber. The southern wall is nearly entirely covered by a massive mirror, flanked by two statues - one carved from structural opal and the other carved from structural citrine, both vaguely in the shape of a kobold. Torch holders carved into the shape of birds are built into each corner. There are double stone doors leading to the east and to the west.
Dorian Quartz |
"Hey, folks, come on. Grab the goodies and get in here," Dorian yells as he puts his torch into the the torch holder on the left.
Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Bastion moves to the East doors and examines them along with the room before turning to the rest " Next verse same as the first. Inspect this room and then let us see what is on the other side of this door. It seems to head in the direction we originally came down so it makes sense to check it. Private Dorian if you would.. While Private Odalis and Taviston check the West door. Private Aconite don't get too caught up in that shield. "
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
When everything was well inspected and there seemed to be no traps, he would push the door open once more with Dorian.
Gil Odalis |
Gil gives a quick flex to the mirror before moving towards the west door. Bastion had said he was a "hammer" and dang it, he was right! Pleased, the Breaker is filled with confidence when he checks the door for traps.

I'm checking the mirror and the west door
Lilia Aconite |
Lilia fixes the shieldbug on her backpack and examines the statues and the mirror, checking if the stautes could come alive and if the mirror is magical.

Lilia, please be sure to note the shieldbug in your inventory if you haven't already.
Gil's quick check of the mirror reveals no obvious traps, though something odd happens. When he look into the mirror he sees himself but also an older kobold dressed in the fashion of an ancient Citrine warrior. The kobold's image is superimposed upon Gil's own. The door, in the meanwhile, does not appear to be trapped.
Lilia's Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
As Lilia peers into the mirror she too sees the older kobold's image superimposed upon her own. Her examination takes time, searching the mirror from corner to corner. Each time she looks dead on into the mirror, there is the kobold. After nearly half a minute of searching the mirror she feels a heat on her forehead. In the mirror, Lilia briefly sees an ancient Citrine hieroglyph burned into her forehead but it fades away quickly and, a quick check reveals there is nothing actually branded on her real forehead.
Dorian and Bastion, meanwhile, push open the east door to reveal a new chamber. This chamber is the first in the tomb that hasn't been square in shape. Instead, it is long and rectangular with pillars lining the walls interspaced with stone kobold masks that extend from the walls. A stone alter, covered in dust, sits at the eastern end of the room.
Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
" Good to know both of you, now let's examine this room, I don't see anything particularly interesting but you know the saying. Once the Fool, Twice the Fortunate, Thrice the Sage. " Bastion motions to where he currently was grabbing the torch and giving the room more light.
Tobias Taviston |
Tobias has to fight his urge to stare at the mirror after Lilia's words before he follows the party.

As Bastion grabs the torch and brings it into the rectangular chamber, everyone hears a chittering sound. The torchlight bounces off the sparkling exo-skeletons of two spider-like creatures, each roughly the size of a gnome. The spider-things are climbing over and around the altar at the far end of the room.

Bastion dropped the Torch to the ground and adjusted himself for combat. He takes his master's sword and limber up remembering his armor training. " I don't know what those are but they look like spiders, form a line and get ready to engage. Back line strike them before they close! "
Bastion readies an action to stab the first arachnid that comes up

Lilia makes takes a step to the side(NW) to have a free line of sigth and peers into the room, to see if there is anything on the altar that seems valuable or fragil.
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Lilia takes out her blowgun and a dart, she takes the tip of the dart into her mouth and aktivates her venomglands. She takes aim and sends the blowgun dart flying at one of the creatures(red).
5-foot step (NW), draw blowgun, use Amazonite toxin on blowgun dart, attack red dot solifugid
Lilia takes a small sphere that looks like dried plant and puts a small stick into the opening at the top of the sphere, gives it a twist and lobes the sphere at the creature(red).
5-foot step(NW), attack with bomb

Are we all too terrified to fight? I haven't posted since they'll very likely be dead by the time I can go. But oh well, here goes.
If the spiders are still alive by Tobias turn hell probably try to shoot one with his crossbow provided they don't somehow end up in melee with him.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Subtract 4 if I end up firing into melee. If the shot would be through melee and cover I'll choose the other Solifugid.

"A line, you say? Okay, but that's not how I learned to fight." Dorian will stand next to Bastian, and prepare a single attack if one of the creatures comes into reach.

Bastion smiles, " There is always time in life to learn new techniques when it come to combat. Even I have learned there are times for stern formations and time for chaotic brawls. Stick with me and focus the same one and this should be a quick sortie Private Quart " Bastion assures the man.
JGray |
Dorian and Bastion set themselves, waiting for the arachnids to charge. Meanwhile, Lilia takes action. Her bomb flies through the room and lands right on one of the solifugid's, exploding. Fire splashes over from the bomb, burning the second solifugid as well.
Blue solifugid's reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The red dot solifugid takes 7 points of damage. The blue dot solifugid takes 4.
Lilia, make sure you keep track of how many bombs you've thrown today. Your glimpse didn't see anything of value on the altar and it seems to be mostly stone anyway.
Tobias finds that Bastion's set up gives ample room for him to aim through the front line. He pulls the trigger and the crossbow bolt flies, piercing the eye of the red dot solifugid.
Tobias, you'll be able to recover that bolt.
The solifugid's charge forward, intending to devour the intruders into their territory. They find intelligent tactics and readied warriors, instead. With a quick thrust of sword and sword, Dorian and Bastion finish off the arachnids. They lay still, no longer a danger to anyone and oozing a thin blood onto the stone floor.

" A fine job once more, tactics have saved the situation giving us the maximum effect with the minimum chance of danger, lets examine this place for anything of value and move on. The western doors swing open revealing a flight of broken steps descending to the left. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage's southern wall. Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. From the doorway it is impossible to see what waits at the bottom of the stairwell.

Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Seeing that the stairs went a relative ways down the ground, Bastion pulled out his THIRD torch and lit it tossing the SECOND Torch down the stairs to give them illumination as well as scare any vermin with weak constitution or whatever lurks at the bottom. Afterwards he takes a look.
Will gain the feat Throw Anything if need be to make sure he hits the bottom
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
If nothing happens he looks to Gil and nods to him " Alright, standard entry, Private Odalis follow alongside me and watch for anything suspicious, Private Quartz bring up the rear. Privates Aconite and Taviston stay between us and provide support if needed. Seems we are going deeper into the real tomb. "
JGray |
Bastion's torch hits the stairs and tumbles down. At the base of the stairs are a set of stone doors, much like those you have opened multiple time before in this tomb. Engraved on doors is a scarab, wings open, beneath the flaming Sky Turtle. Both sky turtle and scarab are lined with gold.
Bastion Augusta Raphiel |
Bastion looks down and squints his eyes with a smile noticing his idea worked out fine, but that smile slowly falls away. He places his hand up and point to and area roughly 20 feet from the group. " There is something in there.. that sand, it may be another of those spiders.. or another verminous threat. Private Odalis if anything comes out, you smash it and everyone, ready yourselves. " bastion has the group advance together the frontline 5 ft from the support
Gil Odalis |
Gil just nods silently and takes out his hammer, moving slowly and carefully towards the spot indicated by Bastion. He wanted to try and get the jump on whatever was moving around in the sand.
I don't know if I can ready attack outside of combat, but if I can that's what I'm doing in case something pops out to get me.
