After the ceremony.

Gren smiles sheepishly at the praise, ”Thanks for the compliments, they mean a lot to me. I don’t have much formal priestly training, so I just put together what seemed appropriate for the circumstances.” He slumps in the saddle afterwards and absentmindedly pets Ringo on the neck. ”I hope we won’t have to do it again...”

After the grave is covered again, he sprinkles seeds across the freshly turned soil, and places a bunch of specific seeds near the head of the grave.

When the svirfneblin shows up.

Gren is noticeablely happy to see another gnome and converses with her in Gnomish:

Gnomish:
”Cousin! It’s nice to meet you, I am Grenwold. It looks like you’ve come to trade?”
Gren looks over the gear she provides and turns to the party. ”Some of this stuff is nice, but I have no money and little to trade. Let me know what my budget is. Also, it looks like there are some scrolls that I could use for the party, you may want to grab those.”

AC5 / HP8

Wow...

Hedran looks for:

Masterwork Weaponsmithing Tools: 1d100 ⇒ 71 (50 gold)
Ioun Torch: 1d100 ⇒ 32 (75 gold)
Cracked Scarlet and Blue Sphere (UMD): 1d100 ⇒ 94 (200 gold)
Cracked Incandescent Blue Sphere(Perception): 1d100 ⇒ 57 (200 gold)

Total spent would be 450 gold.

Felicia immediately runs at a chicken, catches it and throws in into the air, to watch it fluttering down, squawking indignantly at the ill-treatment.

My brother used to do that, but every time I chased chickens, they'd turn on me and I'd run away. Wow.

"So do you want me to cast continual flame on the everburning torches or what?" Aubrin asks Nigel.

"Oh thank you so much, you're such a dear." Jet impulsively gives Nigel a hug. Thrix is staring at all the spices in bewilderment. "Mi ez az egész?" She asks, puzzled.

Draconic:

What's all this do?

"Aye how come dinnae ye git me some ore tae smith, while ye'r at it. " Kinning drawls sarcastically.

unaccented:

Yeah why don't you get me some ore to smith, while you're at it.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The Svirfneblin addresses Grenwold excitedly."
雅 - 私は暗闇から来ました。私は毎週、血栓症患者と取引するためにここにいます。あなたが特に探しているものは他にありますか?多分私はあなたのためにそれを調達す ることができますか?"

Gnomish:

Ya - I came from the darklands. I'm here every week to trade with the troglodytes. Is there anything else you're looking for in particular? Maybe I could procure it for you?

Male Human Ranger - 8

Earlier:

speak with Animals:
"Probably. There may be plenty of things to chase around, for fun, if you want. I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone needs to eat in Heaven. The spell I'm using to speak with you is about to wear out. We'll talk more tomorrow."

Now:
"Kinning, why not write a list of the types of ore that you'd like, and the quantities. Especially for a special project I have in mind. I want a new type of Arrow or two. I'd like a type of Arrow that can hold Alchemist's Fire, and an Arrow that can hold Oreald's Stump Remover, with a hole for a fuse."

Male Human Ranger - 8

As for the NPC promotion, I vote for Oreald, because of Craft( Alchemy ).

Edit: I changed my mind. Going with Nigel on this and seconding his vote for Kinning.

Outside Hedran smiles as life seems to find its way, with a strong nudge from his companions - As it should be' - he ponders to himself, and decides to do a perimeter check. Somehow he knows the hobgoblins will not forget, and he will not be caught by surprise.

Just doing a round, checking in on anyone outside the caves - Ratel, the sunflower leshies, Veld, and Azriel.

Nigel shrugs at Kinning.

"Ore isn't somezing zat vas available, or I would have."

It isn't on any of the tables, and metal, as a trade good, has to be bought *per pound*, which means the odds of me being able to find enough to make even one minor weapon is pretty low...

-----------------------

Six chickens and a rooster sounds reasonable to me (and makes the Provision Point calculations easier).

-----------------------

Nigel shakes his head at Aubrin.

"No, you can just cast Continual Flame on some *other* torches, to effectively create four more."

-----------------------

He then smiles at the excited Jet, grinning widely.

"Vell, ve've been surviving out here, but I see no reason vhy ve shouldn't start doing more zan zat, and actually dining. Not to mention, it vill probably do wonders for our new friends' aroma..."

Heh. Were you serious about them becoming delicious...? ;-)

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Kinning

"Ah weel, ah suppose ony projects wull hae tae hauld yer horses, then. "

Unaccented:

Ah well, I suppose any projects will have to wait, then.

Aubrin

Aubrin nods, "Ah, ok I see, so we'll get 8 torches in all?"

Jet

"Hmmm...lets see...if we were to that...I think we should start baking cookies for them." Jet muses.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

As Hedran makes his rounds he realizes the wolves are making an unholy ruckus, and calls Nigel up to investigate the situation.

The wolves start howling in a chorus on meeting Nigel.

wolf:

There's a hobgoblin heading this way, riding on a wolf like us, but only bigger!

H7 discovered

Male Human Ranger - 8

On hearing the wolves, Robert grabs his combat gear and heads out towards Hedran's position.

Gren hops on Ringo and preps himself with Discovery Torch and Heightened Awareness and then follows Robert.

Gren will likely discharge heightened awareness to get a boost to initiative.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

"Hey, where you guys rushing off in such a hurry?" Ighiz asks as the party scurries off."O nevermind, galime kalbėti apie tą ką tik įgytą krūklą. Ir keletas paviršiaus ginklų. Gal kronika ar du." She tells the deep gnome as she leads her away.

"And we'll get the mapping and mining done."

Undercommon:

Oh nevermind, we can talk about that breastplate you just acquired. And a few surfacer weapons. Maybe a pathfinder chronicle or two.

We'll just take it that you guys decide to wait for him to arrive instead of going to look for him, so the confrontation takes place in front of the trog caves.

A grey hobgoblin wearing a breastplate, his ears having many piercings rides up to the hobgoblin camp on an immense black wolf the size of a horse, clad in leather barding.

Grenwold knowledge nature: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Nigel knowledge nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Robert knowledge nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Nigel and Grenwold know that the wolf is a dire wolf and it can trip with its bite.

The hobgoblin at first looks surprised seeing his "welcoming party".Then he compliments the party earnestly. "I see, you've turned the troglodyte cave into your home. How resourceful of you. Now I'm sure those caverns stink, so why don't you just come back with us to Phaendar. We value resourcefulness in slaves and would even get you a tent to stay in."

Earlier:

”Sorry for running out - it sounds like there’s trouble. I’ll be back soon!” to the svirfneblin’s statement.

Now

Grenwold immediately waves his hands in a mystical manner and whispers ”Hey there wolf, we could get you some good snacks if you become my friend.”.

Grenwold casts charm person, targeting the wolf, as soon as is possible. Provide the appropriate bonuses, etc., DC 13 will save to negate.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Nat ones always fail anyway, +5 bonus or not..

Enchanted, the direwolf immediately goes up to Grenwold with his tail wagging and starts licking him vigorously, while sniffing him all over for snacks.

Wolf:

Mmm…snacks sound good. Do you have any?

Party, except for Grenwold up

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

”Good job.” Father Noelan compliments Grenwold’s handling of the wolf situation. ”Now THIS is our reply for all those you’ve enslaved. Go to hell.” He then moves to the side to have a clear view of the hobgoblin, then fires at him once.

Unfortunately cheesy traits only cover for one person in the way. It’s not improved precise shot, but close.

Longbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Father Noelan's arrow bounces off the hobgoblin's breastplate.

”Get him, Cavall.” Father Noelan orders, as Cavall bounds forward and bites the hobgoblin.

Having been outside watching the children play with the chickens, Ratel turned to see the mount and rider just as Gren started talking to the dire wolf. Seeing an opportunity to end it quickly he quickly moved toward the hobgoblin, arming his shield as he ran. ”Flank Attack Bear” trying to hit the rider from one side, while Bear administered a bite from the opposite.

What? You're brawling in front of the kids?! Won't anyone spare a thought for the children!

Norris, Felicia and the chickens make themselves scarce after Father Noelan tells them to get out of the warzone.

Ratel manages to bash the hobgoblin with his shield while bear savages his side. 31 dmg to hobgoblin.

Nigel cheerfully smiles at the wolf, and starts barking.

Wolf:
"Hello there, big fellow! Of course you can have some treats..."

He then moves forward, drawing some biltong to offer the wolf as he does so.

Wolf:
"There is more where that came from, if you decide to join our pack; I promise to keep you fed, and healed, if you get hurt."

AC5 / HP8

I see Hedran already engaged, but I would want to cast Mirror Image before advancing.

Mirror Image: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Images.

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Sorry, moved you back. My office is moving so it's all that chaos! Was considering botting you then I got busy busy!

Hedran casts mirror image. If you wanna move, go ahead.

The dire wolf gobbles the treats Nigel offers, while licking him.

Wolf:

Mmm, not bad... Now how about a backscratch?

"Hey, what are you doing with my mount?!" The wounded hobgoblin yells as he swings his axe, with devastating speed and accuracy at Ratel's chest.

battleax: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

battleax confirm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
dmg: 2d8 + 20 ⇒ (6, 8) + 20 = 34

Then he uses his free hand to pull his mount out of the flank, but of course, the dire wolf refuses to budge.

Ratel tries to block the blow with his shield, but he is too slow. As the axe cleaves into his chest, he feels a burst of pain, then a terrifying numbness as the world goes black. 49 dmg done to Ratel. X3 crit is painful.

Ratel stabilize: 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (2) - 8 = -6

Ratel's complexion begins to turn pale.

"Oh sh*t!" Father Noelan blanches as he sees Ratel sustain the grevious wound. "Cavall, get him out."

Maneuver training:reposition, used

Cavall drags Ratel to the sidelines and to relative safety.Father Noelan quickly moves over and channels healing energy into Ratel to revive him. "Ratel, wake up!"

Hedran Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Grenwold spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Hedran realizes Father Noelan is casting Cure Serious Wounds.

CSW: 3d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) + 4 = 16

Robert continues to fire at the hobgoblin, but his arrow goes wide, as Pila stays behind him.

longbow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

you're on 5 Hp but conscious, on the ground, Ratel.

Party up

AC5 / HP8

Yep, I would have moved anyway to stay 5' away, so this round I can:

Swift Action Longsword +1 to +2.
Spell Combat to cast Frostbite.
5'step in and attack with Spellstrike.
I can do this. Right? :D

Longsword, 1h: 1d20 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 1 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + (4) + 4 = 17

Longsword, 1h: 1d20 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 1 = 20
Damage if it hits: 1d8 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 + (6) + 4 = 22

Math:

To hit: +6
+4 [STR]
+3 [BAB]
+1 [Weapon]
+1 [Arcane Pool]
-1 [Power Attack]
-2 [Spell Combat]

To damage: +8+d6+4
+4 [STR]
+2 [Power Attack 1h]
+1 [Weapon]
+1 [Arcane Pool]
+1d6+4 [Frostbite]

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

Sure, you can.

Earlier retcon

Hedran moves up after casting mirror image.

Now

Hedran channels some of his magical energy into the sword, making it cold as ice, then steps up and delivers a vicious blow to the hobgoblin's midsection, who is knocked clean out of the saddle by the force of the blow and lies unconscious on the ground.

1 stay in saddle, 2 fall out: 1d2 ⇒ 2

falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Since frostbite is non lethal.. You could question him if you wanted to. Assuming you don't follow up with second strike.

On his body the party finds a potion of barkskin, potion of cure moderate wounds, alchemist’s fire (2), smokestick (2); a +1 breastplate, mwk battleaxe, throwing axes (3), a cloak that Hedran identifies as a cloak of resistance +1,bedroll, bit and bridle, exotic military saddle, saddlebags, 4 Provision Points of jerky and 19 gp. And a note wrapped around a ruby worth 250 gp.There is also a map showing the route between Scarvinious’s camp and the troglodyte caverns.

Edited, forgot a map

Location M unlocked, but its a DC 15 survival check to follow the map

Strange Aeons Grp 2 |

The note is written both in Draconic and common.

note:

My troopers carry this gift to you to show our intentions. Together we can tear our enemies to pieces, their arms ripped from their living bodies, and their heads screaming as we wrest them from their necks. We’ve slaughtered or enslaved all in the human town save for a few weak stragglers now lost in the woods. We can hunt them down as one, or we will be done with your claims to this region.

Nigel winces when Ratel is nearly bisected, but breathes a sigh of relief when Father Noealan proves that he isn't dead.

That was close...

He immediately scratches the dire wolf behind its ears, and gives it a belly-rub.

Wolf:
"What's your name? I'm Nigel."

Thereafter, when the note is identified, he clearly glances over it.

wolf:

AC5 / HP8

Yep, I think we should interrogate him.

Hedran holds his second attack, and methodically proceeds to relieve their fowe of his gear, identifying the items he can, and handing them over.

Then he ties up and gags him securely, once he is sure he is stable.
