Each of you have been summoned to a priviate audience with Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury within the Starrise Spire in the city of Nerosyan. It is late in the day when you arrive to the city though the Starrise Spire shines clearly in the sky. The city itself is still bustling with activity as you head to your destination. Upon arriving, you find yourselves being gathered by a silent halfling in a hooded robe who simply nods at each of you and motions to wait for the rest of the group.

You are free to introduce your characters to one another. Note that we do not start until February 16 so you are not required to post yet. This is just a chance to get some pre-session roleplay in.

Muzzo is a burly goblin with grayish-green skin that compliments his gray sharkhide armor. His grinning mouth - he always seems to be grinning - is filled with teeth that have been sharpened down to points. He asks the halfling attendant lots of questions about the Starrise Spire, local animals, and what is good to eat. The rest of you get peppered with questions, too, as he is not shy about talking with strangers - and everyone knows there is no one stranger than Pathfinders.

On his way there


The mist covers it all, it is hard to see anything ... Soon from the mist a tunnel can be seen it must be underground as there is no source of light besides a single torch. A person carries it in one hand, but Xun only sees his back. He wants to say something but no sound can be heard.


The person with a torch holds a bow in his other hand and takes a turn into a bigger chamber. Immediately he is struck with a bottle full of acid and a bolt shot from a crossbow. A person whose face seemed to be blurred throws the torch and quickly jumps back to the tunnel... Xun could have sworn that the man's skin was dark like he would be Garundi...


The vision blurs out but Xun is still underground. A small figure is looking at the wall and asking

"Do you remember what year it was when you were imprisoned?" the person is all blured but Xun believe it to be a small creature Goblin maybe Halfling. The only features that can be easily seen is an odd crossbow and a sound of bottles carried.


That figure covers in mist and is replaced by another small creature. Xun sees anything besides a smile full of sharp teeth. The mouth is speaking
"...eat god Parafinwax instead! See if godflesh taste as good as longshanks meat!"

Suddenly Xun wakes up and immediately stands up trying to understand what is happening.

"It was just a vision." he says in a deep voice looking on the ground where he was lying. All of the symbols that he left to protect his sleep were burned out.

"I guess something really wanted to get my attention" Says the bard as he looks at the Sunrise.

In Nerosyan

Xun left his horse in the Pathfinder stables. He took his belongings and joined others waiting in front of the lodge. Xun is a tall, dark-skinned half-orc. His slightly pointed ears and big bigger fangs do not let him pass as a Human. His voice is steady and nice to the ear.

Xun looks at the small goblin and only see his smile

"I am Xun, Xun Saburo and I am a story teller." after hearing the name back he asks

"Do you think that godflesh taste as good as longshanks meat?" asks in a casual voice like he would be asking for way.

"Good question! Only godflesh Muzzo tried was stupid gargoyle. Not god at all and stone skin hurt Muzzo's teeth. Muzzo like Xun. This be fun group, with lots of stories to tell, Muzzo thinks."

At the workshop.

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang* comes a knock at the door as it rattles the countless bottles and tools lining the walls of a smoky workshop in the backstreets of Absalom.

"If it is a letter or package, put it on the thingy that says 'Stuff Here!' okay?" says a small grey skinned goblin hunched over a table filled with scrapmetal and bubbling liquids. His black duster is covered in holes and acid burns but his goggles are in pristine condition with the silver frames sparkling in the dim light.

Back outside the gruff messenger shrugs before putting down the letter on the odd metal plate. With a loud whir and the suction of air...the letter disappears into a pipe.

Inside the warehouse magical lights begin to pulse as pipes rattle along the rooms wall, small explosions and sparks of electricity leap from the rafters. A few moments later a singed and crumpled letter drops from an opening onto the head of the goblin before bouncing into a puddle of blue liquid.

"Ooops. Still needs adjustments, " he says before padding the the letter dry with a stained cloth...that begins to disintegrate, "and I need to color code my towels..." he says to himself as he begins to read...what is left to read.

He slides back his chair and turns around only to be staring at the belt of his boss, Mhazruk Kruhl. The orc has a frustrated look on his face but appears to be holding back a laugh.

"Drizzic...your contraptions are going to send our workshop up in flames. You are certainly the most destructive of the apprentices but it looks like you have a trip? I can see what remains of the Glyph of the Open Road?" he asks looking at the sad state of the summons.

The goblin, Drizzic, nods vigorously. "You nailed it boss! Something something Sarkoris! Guess I better hurry if I am going to make it...plus I still owe you a bit for last weeks...experiment. AHAHA. I may be the most destructive but I am also your favorite and first!" he says hugging the orc and showing that their attire is almost perfectly matching.

The goblin then starts sliding random vials and metal into his bag, hefts up a modified crossbow on his shoulder and lifts up his goggles before exiting.

In Nerosyan.

Drizic quickly hops off the wagon and hands his payment over with a business pamphlet that he pulls from a pouch stuffed with them.

Rook's Alchemical Supplies and Metalcraft! Absalom's most explosive deals. "If we can't fix it we can get it out of the way!" except
"& Drizzic's" has been scribbled in next to his bosses name.

He races towards the meeting point with his vials clanking as he goes. Once there he dusts off his gear and pushes the door open, spotting the hooded halfling, the half-orc, and another goblin!

"Hello! Hello! My name is Drizzic Kruhl of Rook's Alchemical Suppliers. Here to provide aid to the Vigilant Seal!" he says extending a hand and a pamphlet to the others present.

Upon closer inspection in the room, Drizzic has the burn-marked grey flesh of the Charhide goblins. His black duster is covered in pouches and vial holders with a variety of glowing liquids, his goggles are pushed up on his head ruffling a bleached mohawk that is singed on the ends. On his back is a crossbow modified to have a rack holding different vials of liquid.

When Arlo arrives in Nerosyan, Arlo checks his messages at the post office. Seems like he's invited at the Starrise Spire this very evening! "Whelp, seems like I arrived just in time. Again! I haven't missed a single mission yet since starting this pilgrimage. Seems like fortune follows me around."

With a chuckle, Arlo goes to an inn, orders a bath and a big meal, then arrives right on time at the Starrise Spire.

You see a good-natured Halfling, wearing not much more than a practical and well-worn (and repeatedly patched) traveling outfit. "Hiya, my name is Arlo, and I'm a Cleric of Gozreh. I've been on a pilgrimage so far, and everywhere I go, people seem to be in need. Am I attracted to trouble? Or does Gozreh guide me wherever I go? That's for you to decide and me to find out."

He starts peeling an apple with a knife and handing out apple parts to everyone present.

Navarre is a tall, stocky human with light skin and dark hair clad in imposing armor. When he approaches the group, he speaks in a cold, icy voice. "My name is Eitirim Navarre and I come from the old Cheliax I started my journey as a simple warrior until I was admitted to start on the path of the Hellknights where I hope to establish myself if fate brings them. Let's see what awaits us"

Xun smiles to Muzzo and right after that he turns to spot Drizzic. He goblins odd crossbow and extends his hand

"Xun Saburo, nice to meet you!" from there, Arlo and Eithrim show up. Xun wonders why he has not seen those two in his dream. He takes a piece of apple from Arlo but looks with a bit of worry at Eihtrim.

Xun was never too fond of warrior orders, well time will tell who this Cheliaxian is.

Anjo arrives, or had he been here the whole time? He nods to the others from beneath his own hooded cloak.

"I am the ranger known as Anjo."

Dark skinned Garundi human male wears a an obvious longbow. The bastard sword is quite obvious as well, as are the numerous quivers bursting with arrows.

The hooded halfling remains silent through Muzzo's questions and the group's interactions; they merely stand by waiting for the last to arrive before stepping forward and motioning the group to follow. The halfling leads the group to a chamber near the top of the spire, nods, and then departs.

Inside the chamber you find a small, tidy room lined with bookcases and furnished with an altar in the eastern corner. A mail-suited man kneels on the stone floor with his back to the door, his head bowed in obeisance as he murmurs his evening prayer. As the door creaks shut, he stands and turns to acknowledge his visitors.

“Well met, Pathfinders. I am Jorsal of Lauterbury, Venture- Captain of the Starrise Spire. I hope you’ve enjoyed your stay in Nerosyan thus far—a short visit, regrettably, that is now at its end. Tomorrow, you travel north to rendezvous with my friend Selik, a representative of the Farheaven clan. Selik awaits you within a trading post at the crossroads, where you are to exchange supplies and information.”

Jorsal beckons his guests toward a high table strewn with rolls of parchment, broken quills, and pots of ink. He gently sweeps the items to one side, revealing a painstakingly detailed map, inked in his own hand, of the Sarkoris Scar and its surrounding lands. Jorsal thumbs a spot south of what was once the Worldwound and continues, “This is your destination. I cannot rely on mere couriers for this errand, as miles of dangerous country lie between Nerosyan and this site. The demons’ foul influence still lingers in some parts of these accursed lands. I’ve hired a wagon to bear you and the supplies to the trading post. Your driver is a stalwart woman who’s made the journey many times. She’s prepared to depart tomorrow at first light.”

The Venture-Captain reaches for the envelope on the high table and adds, "A note from Eando Kline" before reading the letter aloud:

Comrades of the Seal,

Prepare yourselves. Tomorrow you travel deep behind enemy lines, as the route to our ally’s location will
take you dangerously close to the former Worldwound. Rumors and tales warn of deadly beasts infesting
the blasted lands around Devil’s Rest trading post. Though our own scouts haven’t personally verified these
reports, I advise you to remember our motto: protect, contain, destroy.
If you encounter any creatures blighted by the Abyss, put them out of their misery at once. Eliminate any
source of corruption you discover, if it is within your power. I expect a full report upon your return.

"So, it's just an escort mission? That's doable. Lots of opportunities to stretch my legs and see the sights. I'm glad I was chosen for this mission.

What kind of information and supplies are we supposed to transport? And why, exactly, is this trade necessary? Not that I mind the walk, it's just that there's probably more to this than delivering a simple fruit basket."

As if to punctuate the last sentence, he offers an apple slice to Jorsal.

"Is there anything about local politics that could interfere in this mission? Is there anyone besides demons who might not want this transport to reach its destination?" asks Bard casually, wishing to get some more information.

Drizzic climbs into a chair and onto the table to get a good look at the map.

"Still with the high tables." he grumbles and appears grumpy till Jorsal mentions a trading post.

He starts to make sure he has plenty of pamphlets.

"Well! I could have brought some more samples if we were going on a business trip! AHA...I will make some on the way. Anything other than demons gonna give us trouble?"

Jorsal smiles and accepts the apple slice but holds it in his hand, "'Just' an escort mission might be a bit of an undersell. The wagon I mentioned is loaded with supplies we're donating to the Sarkorian reclamation efforts around the Scar. The leader of the project, the Farheaven clan, chose to send Selik to speak on their behalf. You'll be exchanging reports with him, as well as delivering these supplies." Taking a bite of the apple slice, the Venture Captain turns to Xun and Drizzic

"Nothing about local politics, though the lawless roads are crawling with brigands who might have an eye for suspected precious cargo. Don't be fooled though, while the Worldwound closed years ago there are still demons in the surrounding lands. There are also wild creatures that still bear the Abyssal corruption." Jorsal then motions to the illustrated forest around the trading post. "I've alslo heard rumors of even darker things in these wounds. It's best to be on your guard."

Arlo and Drizzic:
You recall...Though management has changed over the decades, Devil’s Rest is a well-known trading post and inn that never turns a guest away. Crusaders, travelers, and even fleeing criminals have enjoyed the post’s frontier hospitality in the past. The rumor that the trading post was founded by an exiled Chelaxian noble is true.
Xun:
You recall...Devil’s Rest trading post was founded nearly 200 years ago by Linneus Narikopolus, a Chelaxian theologist of Asmodeus. In its early years, many would-be crusaders abandoned their missions or even disappeared altogether after a lengthy stay at Devil’s Rest, and local legend tells of a devil who appears at the crossroads at midnight, offering mortals their heart’s deepest desire.

Xun walks out for a moment and disappears into a tavern. After about an hour he comes back smiling and sits around the table.

"Ok, this is what I learned. Devil's Rest trading post was founded about 200 years ago by Lenneus Narikopolus, a Chelaxian theologist of Asmodeus. In its early years, many would-be crusaders abandoned their missions or even disappeared altogether after a lengthy stay at Devil’s Rest, and local legend tells of a devil who appears at the crossroads at midnight, offering mortals their heart’s deepest desire."

The bard scratches his bald head and reaches for the bottle of water.

"Some of it sounds like fairytales, but it is hard to say given the proximity to the Worldwound. The fact that the founder was an Asmodeus follower does also play to the tone of this story."

He begins to hum some melody

Navarre listens carefully to Jorsal's words and a small smile of satisfaction runs through his face, no one had ever seen him smile before. "Demons and devils??? I think I'm in the right place and the right moment will finally be able to begin to prove my worth, it is a shame that there is no member of the scourge order who can see me in action overcoming my initiation rite. But good to clean this world of those beings will begin to enlarge a reputation"

Jorsal scratches his head and furls his brow slightly, "Don't they teach this in Pathfinder Training anymore?" With only a slight pause he adds, "Nevermind, you see the Sarkoris Scar is a demon-infested wasteland that once contained a hole into the Abyss that was known as the Worldwound. So was once really-bad and now not as bad but still trouble"

"Ah yes, the 'Hellknight Test'...Please don't go challenging any devils to a one-on-one combat to the death during the mission. We need every soldier we can get. What you choose to do inside the walls of Citadel Demain is your business, but out here you're my responsibility." Realizing this may have come off a bit harsh, "Though yes, if you're 'lucky' you may see a Demon or Devil to group dance with"

The Venture-Captain turns to face the whole group, the corners of his lips curl into a smile "And to give some more info on Selik. He is a son of the legendary Farheaven clan. The followers of Dolok Darkfur may seem strange friends for crusaders like myself, but time and again they've proven their mettle. Selik is no exception. He's headstrong and impetuous, but you won't find a better scout or a better shot with a bow. His strength in battle aside, I think you might enjoy his company. Even if you don't, treat him with respect--he and his family are crucial allies to the Society."

It's at this time Jorsal tells the group where to meet at first light and then asks everyone to retire for the evening. The group has time to gather information and this is when Xun finds a particularly chatty historian and Xun returns with a trove of knowledge that he shares.

Muzzo:

At first light the group gathers and finds a human woman who wears her hood pulled low over her weathered face. She tersely introduces herself as Maeri and insists everyone get situated and to be ready to set out immediately.

New Map in the 'slides' - go ahead and situate yourself in the Green rectangle. Also let me know your exploration activity. Lastly, this is where to do your School Training Items. Let me know if you need help with any of that!

And for those keeping track, we are at 15 challenge points which puts us in the low sub-tier.

Taking 2x minor healing potions

Xun spent his time enjoying his time in the civilized settlement. There was no saying for how long they will be on the road.

So the next morning came too quickly and too harshly for him. To handle his state he skipped the breakfast but gathered some food to eat on the road. Instead, he went outside to prepare for the day. He chanted for some time following the ways of his father that he was taught, in the end, he gathered some earth and ash, made few symbols on a leather pouch, and came back to meet the others.

He approaches Muzzo opens the small pouch and says

"Spit in it." then he ties it and gives it to the goblin.

Arlo greets the woman and is chipper throughout the whole trek, even if the weather happens to be bad. He asks everyone where they've traveled and if they know any places of recommendation.

"Oh. Yes, Muzzo remember some about Scar now. Sounds like big fighting for long time. and Devil's Rest sound right, too. Good place to stay, no matter what look like. Muzzo happy to go there."

When Xun walked up to Muzzo and asked him to spit in a bag, Muzzo did it without hesitation. Clan shamans always asking for spit or fingernails, or something else for their potions and talismans. "Thank you much for talisman. Muzzo keep around neck." He tied off the bag with a leather thong, then hung it around his neck, tucked under his sharkhide vest, then went off to collect his healing potions from the cabinet nearby.

Taking 2 minor healing potions as my School items

As they travelled, Muzzo stayed near the cart, occasionally running off the path to look at an interesting fungus or insect. If he saw animals, he would chase towards them, trying to pet them, but very few let him. Whenever they stopped, Muzzo helped care for the horses, wanting to feed them treats and talk with them.

Does anyone have a familiar or animal companion? If so, you just became Muzzo's new bestest friend!

Depending on it's speed he either keeps a lookout from above or will spend his time a bit ahead...because he wants to find buyers before anyone else.

Maeri looks relieved when no one seems particularly interested in trying to talk to her and anyone feeling chipper enough to try to talk to her she simply responds with a stern, "I'm only a driver, friend. Let me do my job."

The route takes the group through miles of wilderness along uneven road. There's plenty of time for everyone to share adventuring stories and provide Arlo with places of recommendation. The trip is, however, unpleasant. The road is rough and the wagon constantly bounces Drizzic around; and the only sound in earshot is that of the whistling wind and Maeri shouting commands to her horses.

The day drags on but Maeri seems determined to make it to the crossroads before nightfall and doesn't ease up. She continues to drive her horses hard. As you travel you notice that the landscape subtly warps the farther north you travel; gnarled tree trunks creep along the path rather than upward, and riverbeds contain stagnant greenish-black sludge.

Around midday Maeri stops near a polluted stream to tend to her horses. "Stay away from the water!!" she commands.

As Maeri is tending to her horses, a lone traveler approaches atop a horse. As he gets near, he slows his horse and leaps off. "Greetings! I'm Kellvan, investigator from Nerosyan. Might I ask you a few questions?" He presents a badge as his credentials.

Kellvan is now on the map, and there is a journal entry with his full art. To find the journal entry-- find the menu on the right hand side of foundry and click on the book Icon. There will be a journal called "Kellvan". Here is a picture to help find it. This will be where I put all the art at (and i'll let you know when new art is up).

Back by the stream, Arlo is curious about the black sludge. He does as he is told and doesn't go near, but he is oddly intrigued."Maeri, seems like you know about this stuff. Can you tell us more about it? Is it harmful? Can we cleanse it, somehow?"
If Maeri is evasive or doesn't answer, he'll keep pestering her for a while. Then he'll have a think about it himself and ask if his teammates know anything about it.
Nature and Religion both at +9, if it's related to that.

As the inspector arrives, Arlo shrugs and says, "Sure, no problem. Anything we can help you with? I promise this is a legal shipment, and as far as I know we did nothing wrong."

With time to talk on the travels Drizzic strikes up conversation with Arlo, "Do ya mind the heat? Or the occasional dangerous wildlife? If not Katapesh is worth visiting, they are accepting of goblin-kind there. Better yet Yigrig is even a big honcho in the city and could help you out with the area! Tell him I sent you."

"If we can't cleanse it, we could repurpose it...if it is harmful. Weapons and alchemical goods are ALWAYS a big seller. Imagine my bolts coated in this stuff!" Drizzic says bouncing alongside Arlo and looking almost feverishly at the sludge.

"Just one vial? A tiny sample?" he asks at almost a whisper at no one specific.

Xun eyes the man and reaches for his drum. As they are standing he silently begins to beat a slow rhythm.

As he does so he ignores the investigator and looks around for any signs of ambush.

Our friend Navarre probably knows at least a few tests that he learned from Scourage Order how to check if you are a Witch or a demon servant. Let me just note that it might involve you being thrown into that river there all tied up and seeing if you drown or not. "

Xun turns his head towards Kellvan

"So I recommend to say your case quickly while holding your hands far away from any weapons."

Xun decided not to say that his other companion seemed to look into eating longshanks meat...

Maeri shrugs off Arlo's question with a grunt and seems too focused on her task at hand to entertain questions. Arlo and Drizzic study the river closely but it appears to just be infected from the blight. No telling what danger it poses, nor can the bottom be seen.

Maeri looks up at Drizzic once more "Well, I wouldn't call it normal. But seems innocent enough." She pays no further attention to Kellvan as she grabs some canteens and heads towards the stream.

Kellvan takes the chance to greet everyone who introduceed themselves and then continues, "Just have a few questions to ask, and can't unfortunately answer questions of yours without putting my investigation at risk. But No, Muzzo of Clan Sharptooth, I am not a demon or wish-granting devil," he chuckles at the thought. Turning towards Xun, and then Navarre, Kellvan nods, "Many thanks thus far. An escort mission?" Turning towards Arlo. "What kind of shipment is this? And where are you heading? This is all I must ask before I carry on my way" His eyes go back to Navarre and finally rest on Anjo's bow while keeping his hands visible. He doesn't appear to be armed with more than a simple hatchet and hand crossbow which rest at his side.

"Nothing special or valuable. General supplies headed for Devil's Rest. Unless you want me to brew you up some alchemical goodies...those I could sell!" Drizzic chimes in not wanting to become the target of any taxes or banditry but he still moves forward to hand Kellvan the pamphlet of his boss's business.

Kellvan keeps a straight face at Muzzo's joke and seems unamused. He perks up a bit at the mention of Devil's Rest. "Devil's Rest...What business do you have there? I suspect general supplies don't need such an... armed escort."

Meanwhile, Maeri has reached the river and is filling one of her canteens with the polluted water.

Xun turns silent for a moment

"Isn't Devil's Rest a trading post? Is it so unusual for the cart of items to go to a trading post?"

It could be me badly reading the descriptions. Or the fact that I just finished playing 1-03 escaping the grave, where you are behind the enemy lines and there are no casual meetups on the road. But we seem to be giving a lot of information to a stranger who does not share anything with us.

You've got a point, but the way Arlo sees it, he's just one guy. If he warns his bandit friends about us, we'll solve that when we get to it. And so far it's relatively harmless information, even though the questions are indeed a bit odd.

"Not so unusual, no. We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot here, this is just some casual questioning for my investigation. Though if you are who you say you are then I trust everything is in order here and I'll be on my way. I have urgent business to attend to as part of my investigation." Kellvan takes a step back towards his horse and prepares to mount it.

Maeri yells at Drizzic to keep away from the water but ultimately doesn't do anything to prevent him from taking a sample other than give a disapproving glare. She's nearly finished filling her last canteen.

"Nevermind all that, let's move" Maeri says with little regard to the questions and returning to the wagon. She doesn't take long to get back on the road and continues to be focused entirely on getting to Devil's Rest before nightfall. Little is seen outside of the warped landscape and the only sounds are disturbing animal calls that sound like human screams emanating from the overgrown brush.

Several hours pass in such a manner until the trail crosses through a thick forest of mutated trees. The horses suddenly whine and rear, bringing the wagon to halt. Maeri disembarks to free them from their tangled harness when some wild boars appear and charge towards the wagon. The first boar rushes towards Drizzic and buries it's tusks into his leg. Hit Drizzic, 13 Piercing. It then tries to ram Muzzo with it's tusks but the goblin is harder to hit it seems. Miss!
