Rogzul tends more of his wounds as he circles the remaining enemy. As Rogzul gets closer Wren summons a massive wall of fire right on the back end of the creature.

Not sure where exactly you wanted the wall. Where it is now Jorgan will take 1d4 damage. I am assuming you wanted it on the creature or in front of it with the waves going away from Jorgan.

The fire tears through the clays defenses causing it to explode and send acidic shrapnel at Rogzul and Jorgan.

Sorry. Bad work post. My bad. Was trying for 'a ring of fire with a radius of up to 5 ft./two levels (per spell) around the statue. It should hit the statue/slime as well as it moves out. Yes, the flames would be inward.

The smaller table holds blocks of pigments and rotted paintbrushes. while the cabinet just holds dozens of very large blocks of dried clay. Each block weight nearly 20 pounds.

A gripe regarding remove disease:
We could consider using the restorative ointment, but I don't think this has a good chance of success. Also, in my opinion I really dislike the changes made to spells like neutralize poison and remove disease. It used to be they just worked, but now you need to roll vs the affliction DC, usually with a crappy bonus, which seems to be +5 for the ointment. The ointment has 5 uses, which equals 800gp per use (4000gp for a full jar). At 50gp antiplague is way better, plus it also adds to your own save bonus.

Heading further north-east, the opposite direction of the cathedral leads to a small river that runs through the center of this valley. The precipitous slopes of the rocky canyon walls are dotted witha few dozen dark cave entrances. Each of the cave entrances are carefully framed with the stone arch set with a keystone carved with Dwarven runes.

Dwarven:
The runes simply seem to be no more than the name of the family that must have managed each mine.

None of the caves seem to extend further than a few dozen yards into the mountains before coming to a wall of collapsed rock.

DC 20 Perception:
Withinone of the collapsed walls you notice a blunt handle. Shifting around a bit of the rock you find a +2 Dwarven Urgrosh.

Heading further along the trail a giant scarecrow hangs. It is crudely formed from tree trunks lashed together as it stands at the entrance of this forested vale. On either side, steep, rocky escarpments climb sharply toward the sky. Clinging boulders jut from the slopes, entwined by the thick roots of twisted ash trees that are determined to hold them fast in place. A cold breeze whisks through the rift, sending a blizzard of silvery ash leaves scattering through the air.

The giant scarecrow stands nearly 20 feet tall, although it overgrown with moss and lichen.

DC 15 Survival:
This effigy is only a few months old.

Dc 15 Knowledge Local:
The meaning of this scarecrow can be inferred to mean a warning of danger in the area.

High above the valley stands a massive facade carved into the side of he cliff face. Of simple design, it consists of four colossal tapering pillars flanking a dark opening. Just below the doorway, white stains cover many of the surrounding rocks. On the valley floor below lie the rotted carcasses of two large dragon-like creatures covered in long spines.

Dc 17 Knowledge Arcana:
These two creatures are spire drakes. Sages attribute the gaunt builds and tattered, scabrous wings of spire drakes to centuries of dwelling in magic-blasted desolations and accursed badlands, positing that the tainting of the land seeps into the drakes' flesh and bone and into every clutch of eggs, and is thus carried down through generations of decay. But while their appearance is somewhat withered, spire drakes are just as strong and ferocious as other drakes.

Spire drakes are unusually intelligent for their kind. They are particularly curious about magic and magical items, and enjoy having large collections of such items even if they don't know how to use them. Lacking the ability to detect magic, they often scour their hunting ranges for any items they suspect might be magical, collecting an array of strange and obscure devices and objects and displaying them proudly so they can boast to other drakes they encounter (who often jealously try to steal or destroy the collections of their rivals).

Spire drakes often demand tribute from merchants and caravans passing through or near the lands they claim, or may offer to let opponents escape a fight in exchange for surrendering a magic item. Spire drakes are rarely as clever as they think, however, and can be easily tricked by temporary magical effects into believing an item is magical. Still, spire drakes that manage to collect true magical items use them offensively or defensively as appropriate, and love to show off their latest prizes.

A typical spire drake measures 18 feet from its nose to the long, thin tip of its tail, and weighs about 1,700 pounds.

The opening to the tomb stands 120 feet above the Valley floor. While the height and steep ascent make falling from the cliff face perilous the craggy rock offers plenty of stable footholds.

DC 15 Climb checks to reach the entrance.

Yes, you checked it. I am kind of streamlining this area a bit and bypassing some of the more useless filler. The map has a lot more combats, like every couple of miles. The majority of them are just basic patrols of a cyclops, cave giant and a manticore. Others are just ogres. No gear or treasure on them. That was what was in the SW corner.

I am leaving a few and the important stuff but there is nearly 30 situations that happen in this valley and the majority of them are pointless like that. If we did them all we would spend months alone scouring this Valley in PbP.

Rogzul grunts in agreement with Kraygans assessment of the effigy as he returns to the party, producing the Dwarven urgrosh he retrieved from the ruins some way down the path.
"I have not been trained in this weapon, maybe one of you can use it." +2 Dwarven urgrosh

The half-orc looks up and assesses the climb. "I could climb as well but maybe the elf is right. If he and I fly, you three may be able to climb unmolested by these drakes. Or we might distract them with this weapon I just found. It is magical."

Wren has no desire to fly amidst more skilled and powerful drake combatants, but does not speak it just yet.

"If you seek to parlay with them, we should do it from the comfort of the ground. Asking them while we climb could be dangerous. Why don't you see if you can summon them with your usual bellowing and cursing?" Wren asks, drawing his bow.

Torgan adds the Dwarven Urgosh to his repertoire of weaponry. "I'm sure tha' this'll aid th' Shorn Whiskers well. Good find, Squats." he remarks, holding back his own knowledge of seeing the hilt sticking out of the rock as well.

"Th' Shorn Whiskers shall not bow down t' a few dragons!" he yells as he decides to slay the dragons. "We shall meet them head on."

"If they are as open t' parlay as ye say, then call them down here for a fight t' win th' right t' pass, Prophet." he says to Wren.

Wondering why the dwarven drinking horns were horns at all, musical or useful, was wasting time, but Wren had time to waste as he thought about how to bypass this hurdle, the nature of drakes, and how now, of all times, the dwarves seemed incapable of making a racket or drawing attention to themselves.

Ooh, that's one good twistedly bad sentence. My 11th grade English teacher would be sad. Ha! Take that Ms. Windstorm!

"Riiight." Kraygan replies to Wren's suggestion to make a ruckus rather then use real magic to lure out any drakes. The elf couldn't do a simple parlor trick, yet he wanted them to believe he was summoning deadly blazes from nothing. Kraygan was starting to wonder if Wren was not the great wizard capable of leveling taverns with fireballs, but rather a trickster with a magic bag full of barrels of alchemist fire.

Deciding good old elbow grease was the best course of action, he looks around at his companions for the most magical and impressive-looking item in their possession. His eyes settle on Jorgan and his too-big spear. "Play along." He says as he approaches his cousin and reaches for the weapon.

"HEY! I think it's MY turn to use that SPEAR to stab some GIANTS!"

Jorgan looks around, disappointed no greedy dragons are coming after them. He lowers his voice to a normal volume, which for a dwarf is slightly above the appropriate volume. "I don't think it's working. Either there's no dragon up there or it's a mighty disciplined one. Come on, let's stop screwing around and go up there already."

Jorgan will put his spear on his back and start to climb.

Stowing his spear Jorgan leads the way up the sheer cliff face. Though the climb looked daunting it is actually a bit easier with all of the rocks jutting forth from the surface.

The remainder of the group follows suit by both means of magic and climbing behind Jorgan. After several long moments Jorgan reaches the top. Beyond the facade is a broad, rough-hewn cavern with an arched ceiling. In the center stands a great slab of stone. Huge bones lie scattered around the slab amid broken shards of reddish clay. A shelf-like groove cut into the cavern wall runs around the entire perimeter of the chamber and is littered with a variety of dusty, giant sized baubles. Against the back wall of the cavern rests a giant nest of branches, bones and tattered hides.

Torgan climbs with Jorgan. "Perhaps there is a free bag of gems up there. I bet the dragon has some nice stuff..." he reasons aloud as he picks his handholds carefully.

At the top of the cliff, Torgan pulls out his hammer and dagger, leaving the urgrosh slung across his back. "Oi. Let's investigate." he tells his brother as he moves forward to check out the baubles.

Keeping Gorum's Thorn at the ready, Kraygan stands guard at the entrance while those with better eyes, and magical abilities, search the cave and nest.

The group all converges unharmed at the top of the cliff and the dwarves quickly splash out and begin investigating the cave.

Kraygan looks over the nest as he kicks the branches about. He finds numerous items strung and interleaved all throughout: Wren's head begins to dizzy as he feels a very strong enchantment coming from the nest.

  • A large spiraled horn fit for a giant. Metal is woven into the end of the horn with a thick strip of leather to carry it on one's back with ease. The horn itself looks to be cut from the skull of a primordial drake.
    Spellcraft DC 35:
This is a Drakesbane Horn. The Drakesbane Horn i s a 4 -foot-long spiraling horn
cut from the skull of a primordial drake. Its surface is
carved with an intricate pattern of interlocking knots
inlaid with silver and copper. When sounded, the horn
can drive off or attract dragons of all varieties. Lesser
dragons such as drakes typically flee in terror from
the sound of the Drakesbane Horn, while more
powerful dragons are compelled to seek out the
horn. Creatures must be able to hear the horn
    to be affected by it.
The Drakesbane Horn affects dragons based
on their CR, as detailed below.
Creatures of the dragon type of CR 5 or less
within 400 feet must succeed at a DC 13 Will save
or be affected as if by scare (no HD limit).
Creatures of the dragon type of CR 6 to CR 10

Will save or be affected as if by sympathy.
Adult or older true dragons and
creatures of the dragon type of CR 11 or
greater are immune to the horn’s effects,
though they are likely to seek out the horn
    and attack its bearer.
If the character playing the horn
    has the bardic performance class
feature or the raging song class
feature and succeeds at a DC 15
Perform (wind instruments) check, dragons of CR 5 or less
are instead affected by fear (Will DC 16), while dragons

must succeed at an additional Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the
character’s level + the character’s Charisma modifier) or
also be fascinated for as long as the character continues
    to play the horn.
A creature that successfully saves against the horn’s
effects is immune to further blasts for the next 24 hours.

As Kraygan spends several minutes digging out the items and gold Torgan investigates the long shelf. Between the bric-a-brac on the carved shelf sit numerous stone tablets, each chiseled with archaic Giant runes.

Giant or Dc 20 Linguistics:
These tablets seem to contain the thoughts of a Giant named Jogrothir and events that took place throughout his life. He seemed to be a hunter, guardian of a sacred horn called Drakesbane which he used to called ancient drakes that were native to the surrounding peaks and used their fire breath to ignite a great and mighty forge.

Of particular note is one section that describes in great detail how Jogrothir first lit the fires of Minderhal's Forge with Dragon's Breath over a set of special fire geodes. While Jogrothir forced a dragon to breathe upon the forge, he later speculates, though was unable to confirm, that if the forge were to ever go cold again it might be possible to rekindle the forge by igniting the fire geodes with flame from a torch lit by a dragon's breath or even using the dragon's blood or glands of a fire breathing dragon.

Wren's eyes momentarily glaze over, then re-focus as he tries to ascertain the different auras in the cave. He worries that there are no drakes here, but those are outweighed by the strength of the magics before him.

"I would give weeks off my life to have some quiet time in my hut with these...to end my days trying to puzzle these out, how they were made and what makes them go, but the Gods are not good to disgraced elves," Wren says to himself, walking over to the horn. No, you deserve your fate. You f~@& up.

Wren's head hangs as he beats himself up internally, even as he reaches for the magics of the trove.

He explains what he knows of the items to others, then helps others pack up and sort the trove of phat loot.

"Jorgan, I wonder how many blowers of that horn have met their death for having blown it," Wren snorts, amused. "Shall we climb back down now?"
