Wren. |
Round 2, Init 16
Wren grouches as the 'forest troll' follows him out, unaffected by the traps. Wren utters a quick bit of elf magic, shooting a dart of acid at the creature.
1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 15 touch to hit; (PBS, combat)
1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6 acid damage. (PBS)
Wren moves back after he shoots.
AC 13, HP 6/13
Posting from phone. Will move on map next to statue later.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Moved you back, Wren.
"Get outta there, Kraygan! He'll tear you up!"
Jorgan readies his axe for when the troll steps into the room.
dwarven waraxe: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2) + 3 = 6
Kraygan Steelkeg |
"Tear me up? Not hardly!" Kraygan bellows back at Jorgan. "Someone might want to get the elf a bandage though, because his damned fool circus tricks nearly got him killed!" With a grunt he slashes again at the troll, then scurries back to his cousins with his shield raised, in proper dwarven giant-fighting tactics.
Waraxe: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 Damned dice roller hates dwarves
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
If this troll is still considered a giant, Kraygan's AC should be 24 vs it.
GM Tyranius |
Wren quickly conjures a small dart of acid and lets it fly directly over the dwarves. The acid slams into the side of the Troll's face, hissing and bubbling. A small portion melts away showing teeth right through the melted skin causing the creature to go into a rage.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Jorgan readies his axe as Kraygan lashes out at the hulking behemoth. Kraygan slams the blade of his axe into it but the blade just bounces right off of the troll's tough hide.

@Kraygan- Yes all of the Dwarves have +4 AC against giants and this troll still has the giant subtype.
GM Tyranius |
As Kraygan backs away from the troll he turns his head but only for a moment. The moment though was long enough for the troll's sharp claws to rip right through the sides of his armor, nearly tearing it from his body.
AoO Claw vs Kraygan AC 24: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Waraxe - Cover/Giant Hunter: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 4 + 1 = 4
His axe clangs against the rock wall in front of him.
GM Tyranius |
Torgan and Vanderhoff steel themselves as the Troll emerges from the hallway. All three dwarves swing at the Troll but pull their blades short missing the creature.
The Troll swipes a large hand at Jorgan

Torgan Steelkeg |
Torgan lashes out at the troll once more, but this time with both of his weapons!
Maulaxe: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 2 - 4 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Waraxe: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 2 - 4 + 1 = 5
Kraygan Steelkeg |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Most dwarves have spent longer training to fight giant creatures then most men's entire lives. It's part of their identity, ingrained in their culture, and as natural as the beards on their faces. Kraygan was confident that he and his cousins could handle this.
But his axe continued to flail about, clumsily cleaving air and stone, and the sudden wound, somehow taken as he withdraw from the troll, just didn't make sense. But it did make him angry...
I been trained for this! WE been trained for this! One troll, and not even a real big one, and we're stumbling around like beardless fools!
There could only be one explanation for it.
Glaring over his shoulder at the cause, he roars furiously, "Damned elf! This is all your fault!"
Turning back to the troll, he steps to his left, gives a battlecry of pure rage, and swings his axe...
Rage 1/6
Waraxe + Rage: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
...right into the ground again.
Unbelievable.
"Damned ELF!"
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Jorgan shifts over to make room for Torgan and mutters, "Damn! This thing hits hard."

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Know (Local)
"If you laddies can't take out one flood troll, step aside and the pointy ears show you how its done."
Wren takes a shot with an arrow through the dwarven dance squad.
1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 - 4 - 4 = -1 to hit (PBS);
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 damage.
AC 13, HP 6/13
Tyranius |
Wren lets loose another bolt of acid at the troll. His aim is off as he tries to miss his companions and ends up meting a corner of the stone wall instead.
Torgan swings his maulaxe at the troll and ends up biting through the creatures tough hide as he draws blood!
Thick trails of blood run down the Troll's arm and collect in a small pool on the floor.
I have Kraygan and Jorgan's actions but I am going to hold off for a second until Vanderhoff posts.

Suddenly Torgan feels a blunt object strike him in the back of his head causing him to see stars momentarily. Blood pours from the wound as a half-orc stands directly behind him.

The Half-orc pushes past each of the dwarves and Wren to get behind Wren before any of them even realize that he is there.
Kraygan flies into a rage which causes him to lose focus on the troll as Jorgan's axe blade bounces off of the tough skin once again.
The Troll unleashes on Torgan and Kraygan.

And holy crap are the GMs dice on fire! Only 1 roll less than 10 out of 8 rolls - and 6 are above 15!
Torgan Steelkeg |
Torgan swings his axes, likely ineffectually as he yells to Vanderhoff.

This is payback for Gaarm being the target of all the haunts in Harrowstone isn't it? ;-)
Wren. |
Round 4, Init 16
Wren grumbles as the half-orc reveals himself. He remembers when he used to have a grudge against ones such as him...and if he might earn it again for the company he keeps.
He 5' steps back from the half-orc and fires an arrow.
1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 = 21 to hit (PBS);
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 damage.
"Have you met my dwarves yet?" Wren quips after his arrow finds his mark...and makes room for Vanderhoff to take his swing.
AC 13, HP 6/13
Jorgan Steelkeg |
"Shit, where'd he come from?!" Jorgan keeps focusing on the troll and hopes that Wren can take on the half-orc.

damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 5) + 3 = 11
GM Tyranius |
Wren steps back and fires an arrow right into the overconfident half-orc. Daktani holds his side as he attempts to catch his breath.
You will regret that Elf! The half-orc sneers.
Torgan's Waraxe leaves an imprint In the Troll's flesh but was stil unable to draw any blood.

Haha :) Gaarm deserves it with a negative Will modifier. He shall make a comeback though. Hopefully your dicerollers get a little better though hehe
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Dropping his hammer, Vanderhoff elbows past Wren while drawing his axe. With a hard swing, he tries to chop the half-orc in the face.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
GM Tyranius |
Seeing Wren in trouble Vanderhoff rushes to his aid and slams his axe's blade deep into Daktani's shoulder.
Daktani grimaces as he slams his foot into the door behind him kicking it open
Slamming his fist into his chest he lets loose a mighty roar into the western room.RAAAAAAHHHHH!

Wren: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Vanderhoff and Torgan see that there are bits of broken weapons, coins and a partially digested skeleton barely visible inside of a large quivering cube of slime. It seems Daktani just got it's attention, though the rest of the group does not see what all of the fuss is about.
Mystery Monster init: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (14) - 5 = 9
The slime slowly shifts towards Vanderhoff.
Kraygan's rage continues to get the better of him as Jorgan and him miss the troll once again.
The Troll swipes at all of the dwarves before him, Unsure which is the best target.

Jorgan Steelkeg |
"More?! By Torag's nutsack!" Jorgan keeps swinging at the troll, hoping to at least take one of the enemies down.
dwarven waraxe: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 = 19
damage: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12
Wren. |
"More?! By Torag's nutsack!"
Wren looks around, trying to see what Jorgan is talking about or whether he's just seeing yaks riding seashells from too much drink.
Wren waits for V'hoff in hopes of learning more.
GM Tyranius, can the door be closed?
Edit: Ninja'd. But Wren wants to know what you all are talking about. And about the door.
GM Tyranius |
GM Tyranius, can the door be closed?
Yes the door can be but the slime is currently blocking the door from being closed. Sorry I was traveling back home.
Torgan continues to swing blindly at the wall.

Wren. |
Round 5
"What you talking about, 'hoss?"
Wren glares hard at the area that Vanderhoff describes, thinking the dwarf crazy...but sends an arrow into the spot nonetheless.
1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 19 to hit (PBShot, -cover);
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 piercing damage.
Wren will step away after firing.
AC 13, hp 6/13
p.s. It's never a good sign when the noodle-armed elf wielding a shortbow is 'winning' the DPR race vs. 4 martials after 5 rounds. C'mon you meatheads, are you making proper offerings to the Dicebot God?!
Jorgan Steelkeg |
Did Jorgan hit? I didn't see his action resolved.
GM Tyranius |
@Jorgan- Yup. :) was just waiting for the half-orc before I posted yours. But yes you did hit it.
Wren turns and fires an arrow at the spot that Vanderhoff is yelling about. He fires an arrow into the arrow. Before his eyes the arrow stops in midair as if it just hangs in place.

Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Trying to figure out if Van can get a Readied and an AoO with his reach weapon. Thoughts? I'm thinking not.
Vanderhoff steels himself and steps forward, chopping into the mobile jelly.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 sigh
Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Kraygan Steelkeg |
@Vanderhoff: I think you can ready an action and get your AoO with a reach weapon. Readied actions interrupt the flow of initiative, so you should still be at 5' range when you make a that readied attack - the creature would then provoke after your action as it completed its movement. Alternately, you could take your AoO first and your ready after since AoO's interrupt the flow of initiative as well.
GM Tyranius |
Yes, I would agree. You ready for when the enemy comes within range and would then get an AoO once it leaves threatened square.
Vanderhoff slams his axe into the jelly-like creature. A small corner falls loose as the creature begins to leak a water substance all over the basement floor.
Vanderhoff don't forget to roll to confirm crit.
The slime squeezes into the chamber over Vanderhoff as it's body completely engulfs the dwarf.
Vanderhoff- You have a choice here.
1. You can either take an AoO for the creature's engulf attempt. To which you get engulfed and need to make a Fort save.
2. Or you can attempt to avoid being engulfed by the creature with a DC 12 Reflex save.
The orc pulls a leather pouch from his belt. He grasps the ends with both hands and rips the top strings loose. A small stream of smoke begins to emit from the contents within.
Jorgan finally sees an opening in the Troll's defenses and slams his axe into the creature's hip. The troll nearly buckles under the pressure.

Waraxe!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Oh C'mon!
Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
I assumed it was some sort of ooze and could not be critted.
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 2d12 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Vanderhoff jumps out of the way.
GM Tyranius |
@Vanderhoff- You are right. My fault.
Kraygan closes his eyes as he begins swinging his axe from side to side in large arcs.
The flood troll is getting aggravated at the incessant dwarves that block his path. It matches Kraygan's yell with one of it's own. Large swathes of spittle fling from it's mouth all over the three dwarves as the large hands clamor down.
Claw vs Jorgan AC 19: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Claw vs Jorgan AC 19: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Vanderhoff is able to leap out of the path of the slime just in time.

GM: it seems you have us all in bold for this round's actions, even though the group is split up by the orc and slime. Initially I was posting ahead because it was just the troll, but with additional enemies I've started to delay to see the resolution of orc and slime actions since Kraygan goes after them. Is that ok, and do you have a preference?
Wren. |
Round 6
"Ah Piddlespot! What is that? Maybe all youse want to finish off that troll now. And I mean now!"
Wren fires at the ooze again.
1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 7 to hit (PBShot, -combat);
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 piercing damage.
GM Tyranius, hypothetically: If a very silly elf wanted to do a very silly acrobactics check to get behind the ooze using the acrobatics/tumble rules would you allow it? Or is the ooze just blockin'/engulfin'?
AC 13, hp 6/13

Is that ok, and do you have a preference?
I have just been going in init order when I post the results. To make It easier I can just bold the groups one at a time as the orc and slime may retcon actions if you post earlier.
@ Wren- There is no space to the left or right of the slime since it is squeezed into the hallway. Though there is some space above it as the ceiling is higher than the creature's 10 feet. So you should be good with acrobatics to go over said creature.
Wren fires another arrow into the ooze. The arrow once again seems to stop in midair. Small drops leak from where the arrow penetrated.

Finals coming up + bar exam prep + other stuff makes for a busy weekend. My apologies.
Torgan sees the river troll as the biggest threat that he can deal with right now. He swings his axes brutally at the giant.
Maulaxe: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Waraxe: 1d20 + 4 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 2 + 1 = 4
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Torgan's maulaxe seems to fly true, but he still hasn't quite mastered the two-weapon fighting stance that his family is renown for in the dwarven hinterlands.
GM Tyranius |
@Torgan- It's alright :)
Torgan slams his axe into the troll once again. It's breathing becomes labored as it seems barely able to stand on it's own two legs. Though still deadly none the less.
The slime mindlessly moves forward once again as it attempts to engulf Vanderhoff once again.
Vanderhoff- You have a choice here.
1. You can either take an AoO for the creature's engulf attempt. To which you get engulfed and need to make a Fort save.
2. Or you can attempt to avoid being engulfed by the creature with a DC 12 Reflex save.
