Sesotho |
"Thank you for your time and the exchange of stories," Sesotho says to Gill with a bow. "It looks like it is time for me to finish the task with which I was charged."
Kvina Oathsworn |
Kvina gives a nod in response to the man's kind words. "That's very reassuring to hear." With this she finishes her milk and scratchings and stands up from the table. "I think my companions are getting ready to continue our assignment, and I should go with them. It was an honor to meet you and I hope we can speak at more length later. Fare the well!" She finishes this with a deep bow and moves to join the rest of her group at the bar.
Valtyra Braga |
"Thank you for the exchange of knowledge Mr. Gill." Valtyra stands up, gathers her cloak, and moves to join her companions at the bar.
"So are we ready to continue on our assignment?"
Quintus Lexius Voralius |
"Well then, my fellow teammates. Quit your chatter. Madame Gale is finally ready to hand over Dreng's package." Quintus says out loud, taking care that everyone heard and understood. Then he puts down his wine, and starts following the barkeep.

Merisiel hops up and over to Heryn... "I'm ready!
GM Elberion |
The half-orcs snigger as Quintus informs the whole room of your mission, "Did he say Heryn had her hands on Dreng's package?"
"Hey, hey, fella, how big is Dreng's package anyway?"
Kvina Oathsworn |
Puzzled by the two half-orc's words, Kvina turns to them and in a straight serious look answers their questions. "Yes Heryn has Dreng's package, she's keeping it in the back I believe, and I don't know how big it is, she hasn't given it to us yet. Now what so funny about a package of alcohol?"
Valtyra Braga |
Valtyra grins at the exchange of words going on at the moment. It is so hard not to laugh right now.
GM Elberion |
With a casual gesture, Heryn leads you behind the bar, down a steep staircase and through a cramped storeroom.
In the cellars, a large, but shallow crevasse splits the room in two: the legacy of an earthquake which shook the Isle of Kortos years ago.
A rickety plank spans the gap and Heryn crosses it very slowly before turning back to you, ”Watch your step. We really do need a new plank.”
Back in the swing of things, at least a little.
Valtyra Braga |
Valtyra slowly and very carefully makes her way across the plank. "Thank you for the warning."
JAFO's pregen alias quatre |
Merisiel tries to cross the gap, jumping over it.
Kvina Oathsworn |
Kvina takes a slightly anxious glance at the crevice, but tries her best to look confident as she crosses the unstable plank.
Quintus Lexius Voralius |
"A new plank? I would suggest a new floor here. Someone could get hurt..." Quintus peers disdainfully into the crevasse, and then continues following Herys.
Sesotho |
"I think I will wait here," Sesotho says, eyeing the plank. "How many Pathfinders does it take to pull a bottle off of the shelf?"
GM Elberion |
Valtyra carefully crosses the bridge, only to be beaten across by Merisiel's graceful leap.
Kvina then strolls confidently across the plank.

Unfortunately, the plank snaps in half and Kvina begins to tumble downward.

No plank now, so Quintus may revise his action.
Kvina Oathsworn |
As she tries to stare straight ahead, ignoring the drop below her, Kvina moves just a little too fast and the plank snaps beneath her. With a yelp of surprise and a look of horror she's glad no one could see, she drops like a rock straight down into the the depths of the crevice.

Merisiel looks down at Kvina from the other side and tsks a couple of times... "That looked painful." She pulls out her rope and ties a few knots in it... braces herself for Kvina's weight.
"SHould be easy to climb up now... just ... you know.. make it quick... can't hold this rope forever with your weight on it."
GM Elberion |
I know you're not meant to ask a lady but... Kvina, how much do you weigh?
Kvina Oathsworn |
Ah, Why I never![/fakeoutrage]
You know I'd never decided or even thought about that. Hmmm, I'd say she's about 5'4" and I'd want to say she'd weigh about 130 pounds so lets say 126. She's also carrying 63 pounds worth of gear, so she should, in total weigh about 189 lbs. If I may ask, though, why?
GM Elberion |
Merisiel can pull you out of the crevasse, as long as you weigh less than double her maximum encumbrance. Which you do.
falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
GM Elberion |
Kvina plunges down the narrow crevasse, seriously bruising her shins as they crash into a stony ledge.
Fortunately, Merisiel is able to haul her out with a rope.
GM Elberion |
Quintus: waiting behind, jumping the gap, or another solution?
Kvina Oathsworn |
Kvina gladly gets out of the hole, the part of her shins just above her armor slightly bloody. "Thanks Merisiel! I don't know if I could have done that on my own. Now just give me a few seconds to patch up my wounds and I'll be ready to go."
She takes a piece of bandaging from her pack and wraps her knees staunch in the small trickle of blood. Standing she tries walking a few steps and bends her knees a few times, happy no major damage happened she turns to the still remaining member and uses detect evil ;P calls out to him. "Quintius, don't worry about the crevice, it's shallow and narrow. Also we should probably be getting Dreng his alcohol soon."
Quintus Lexius Voralius |
"Jumping is not really my style, I'll wait for you here. Shout if you need us. After all, just as Sesotho here says, taking a bottle of wine shouldn't require this many Pathfinders. "
JAFO's pregen alias quatre |
"THey have a point but, then again, you never know, shall we go retrieve the wine, Kvina?" She turns back to those who haven't crossed the crevasse. "If you hear screams, come save us, okay?"
Valtyra Braga |
"Well if we are going to get this done with then let's get a move on." So many people for just a bottle or two of wine. What a waste. What does Drang know that he didn't tell us?
JAFO's pregen alias quatre |
Merisiel walks further in and starts looking for Dreng's bottle.
GM Elberion |
Once everyone who wishes to cross is safely across the crack in the floor, Heryn leads you into the wine racks, "We are looking for the Barrowwood Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, 4690 AR. I think the label should be dark purple.
"To be quite honest, I didn't even realize we had this particular vintage, so I don't know where it will be. Drandle seemed positive that we had it, though."
1d6 ⇒ 2
A minute later, Merisiel shouts, "Found it!" but when she tries to take the bottle off the rack, it doesn't move. Instead, a secret door opens in the back wall. Heryn backs away in surprise, "Umm . . . I don't know what that is. You should make sure it's safe. You've been trained, right?"
Down a short tunnel, you see a small room with a desk covered in papers. The room is lit by a glowing stone above the desk, with walls and corners hard to pick out down the tunnel.
GM Elberion |
See slide 2 of the maps for the cellar, and slide three for what you can make out through the short tunnel.

JAFO's pregen alias quatre |
Merisiel looks into the room wide-eyed in surprise... She walks back to the crevasse and talks to those who hung back... "Perhaps you should all come see this... Dreng apparently sent us to find it... there's a secret room with a desk, some papers, a light... Up to you though." She turns to go back, then turns back... "I'll stay a moment if anyone wants to use my rope, I'll toss one end to you to help you cross, or get out if you fall."
Valtyra Braga |
Valtyra steps through the short tunnel and voices a few archaic words and gives a flick of her left hand as she enters. "Lets see what this room has in store for us." Valtyra spends nearly half a minute standing in place as she looks into the room.

Kvina Oathsworn |
Kvina gladly follows the rest of the group into the wine cellar and spends some time looking for the requested bottle, when Merisiel proves the superiority of elven eyesight and finds it first. As the door rumbles open, Kvina immediately drops into a crouch and draws her longbow and an arrow and starts to advance on the room.
Seeing that Valtrya is also looking at entering the room, Kvina waves her back and says in a low voice "Let me go first, we don't know if its safe." She pauses for a second and quickly looks away as the image of a small boy, face pale with shock flashes in front of her eyes. Her eyes still diverted she continues in a much quieter voice, "I don't know what I would do if you got hurt."
Without looking back to avoid showing the fear and tears in her eyes, she takes up a position in front of the magic user and slowly advances down the hall. Oh, Iomedae, I don't know if I am ready for this."
GM Elberion |
Sesotho vaults across the narrow crevasse.
I'll let Quintus act before describing any more.
Quintus Lexius Voralius |
Quintus sighs, and looks at the gap before him. "I'll take that offer, Merisiel. Please toss that rope over. And grab it tight! Could you help him, Sesotho?"
Quintus ties the rope around his waist, and takes a few steps backwards to give himself a good running start.
I am not going to make it. I am not going to make it. I am not going to make it.
He starts running towards the crevasse, and he already feels his armor slowing him down.
I am not going to make it. I am not going to make it.
And he leaps. But the weight of the armor pulls his down faster than his jump pushed him up. Quintus starts falling, but luckily the rope cuts it short.

Cursing loudly Quintus grabs the rope, and starts climbing to the other side of the gap.

Merisiel holds her end of the rope for the disastrous jump attempt, and then for the climb, which is much more successful.
"Perhaps we'll find something to replace that plank on the way out? I think you're gonna need all the help you can get... You aren't very bouncy." she says with a compassionate smile.

"Oh, very well, if you must." Why is it that everyone seems to think I can't look out for myself? Valtyra gives a slight shake of her head as Kvina slips into the room ahead of her. She then follows along heedless of any danger that may actually be present in the newly discovered room.
JAFO's pregen alias quatre |
Once the last person is across, Merisiel heads back to rejoin Kvina and Valtyra. "This way... " she says to the stragglers.
Sesotho |
Sesotho follows along after Quintus has been rescued. "That fall did sound like it hurt. Or was that just all the noise from your armor?"
I can access the map now, but it is not editable, so I can't move my avatar.
Quintus Lexius Voralius |
"Well, it did hurt, indeed. I still wonder if Dreng knew more than he said about this task."
Bruised, but alive, Quintus joins the others by the newly discovered passageway. "After you..." he mutters to Kvina, happy to have an eager Iomedaean to take the lead.
GM Elberion |
As Valtyra begins her spellcasting, a pair of tentacles reach out from the darkness no perception check because the stealth roll was impossibly high for your characters to grab at Kvina.

Kvina gives an audible sigh of relief as she the tentacles reach out to her. She shouts back down the hallway, "We've got company and it's not humanoid," ...hallelujah, I can fight this!" as she dodges one and the other just whacks her hardened leather armor, failing to do any damage. Having been on edge before, she quickly recovers her bearings, bringing her bow to bear against the enemy.
