Bummer on those fort saves!

Str damage to Kaya: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Fortunately only one more point of STR damage.

The swarm is driven by angry instinct to drive off whatever destroyed their home-- Rogar is innocent of that crime, but the mindless vermin crawl over him all the same.

Swarm damage to Rogar: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Going to roll Rogar's Fort to simply things:
Fort 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 Pass
Fort 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 Pass

A high-pitched voice shrieks over the heads of the Pathfinders. "Oh no no! You won't reach the hut! You won't, you won't! You'd only die horribly if you did! Die screaming! All your blood on the floor, so much pain, so ugly! You'd die so you'll just die outside instead! I say so!"

A very small figure winks into visibility above the east of the hut, flying on thin gossamer wings. No sooner has it appeared then the ground begins to quiver, and the thick grass shoots higher, wrapping around ankles and legs, striving upward to catch hands and wrists as well.

To save time I'm going to roll everyone's reflex saves!

GM rolling Reflex saves, DC 13:

Calder: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Geera: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Kaya: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Reidog: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Rogar: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Caught off-guard by the appearance of the hostile plants, the Pathfinders nevertheless manage to avoid getting caught... except for Rogar. (Rogar is entangled.)

Kn Nature to identify the flier, DC 11:
This is an atomie, a tiny fey with a number of magical abilities. Cold iron weapons would be needed to fully hurt it. If you roll 16 or higher, let me know what else you would like to know.

Sense Motive, DC 15:
The atomie's words of gruesome murder seem as much scared as genuinely-meant threat at you. Her heart may not really be in this? Perhaps she could be talked out of attacking. A Diplomacy check may be made as a standard action to try and get the atomie to call off her attack.

The huge green circle on the map is now under the effects of the entangle spell. It counts as difficult terrain. If you end your turn within it, you must make a Reflex save, DC 13, or become entangled. If you are entangled and want to be not-entangled, you'll need a Str or Escape Artist check, DC 13.

Barred only, Perception DC 12:
The door in front of you leading into the hut is shut, but you see a dull glow behind the hides stretched over the windows.

Party, you're all up!
Statuses: Kaya - poisoned, make a Fort save at the start of your turn or take another 1d2 ⇒ 1 STR damage (and remember that antitoxin Geera gave you!); Rogar - entangled

As Reidog can no longer take a 5-foot step, he is glad the swarm has moved within 10 feet.

He will retrieve an Alchemist's fire from his pack and throw it at the space next to Rogar Sorry, Rogar

I am unclear about the "target a space" rules when it comes to swarms. If I target the space, then the swarm doesn't take full damage? If that is so, then I definitely want to target the swarm, even with a -4 penalty. If the swarm would take full damage by targetting the space, I would do that instead.

Ranged (Splash): 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 4 = 9
Scatter: 1d8 ⇒ 8

With that roll, I believe the flask is falling between me and the swarm. I take 1 dam, the swarm takes 1 dam. I hate swarms

A choice then, to be sure, to head towards the hut, or to face the mysterious plant-speaker man-fly? The tusked one seems able to handle himself, best head towards that thing before it does anything else tricksy!!! Dam these rigid legs, dam these grasping vines, and thrice damn this armor once again!!!

Calder shouts at the now visible creature-

"You, flying fiend!!! Stop with your strange riddles, we came to help Hemzel!!!!! Since you clearly mean us harm, I shall fight thee, but know this! You bring upon your own death this day, insect!

Calder double moves (so only 15 feet because of difficult terrain) towards the new creature.

Forgot my own save for the swarm. Reflex Save vs entangle: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Fail; swarm also entangled.

Reidog chucks a flask of fire, but unfortunately the writhing vines make a clear shot difficult, and his throw falls short, lightly scorching both himself and the swarm. (Yes, targeting the square will result only in splash damage.)

Barred meanwhile slams the hut's door open, calling out for Hemzel... only to realize the source of the smoke, and to see that Hemzel won't be answering anybody's calls! The inside of the hut has been lit on fire in half a dozen spots, and the wooden floor is drenched with grotesque splatters of blood. A wolf lies a few feet from the door, its belly sliced open and its entrails strewn over the floor; a few feet away, there is the unmoving body of a middle-aged human male, wearing a coarse brown robe that the flames are starting to lick at...

Barred can also see that the man's form lies next to a wooden table, on which there is sitting an opened, empty box, and a scroll of some sort.

Barred, I'm going to rule that within the hut the entangle effect is not active, despite the green circle intruding into it.

Rogar struggles against the vines but finds himself held fast in their grip.

Calder issues an angry challenge at the tiny flier and starts towards the figure, but the grass impedes him... and eventually catches him in its grasp!

Kaya manages to summon up inner fortitude and throw off the horrible poison! Kaya, you're no longer poisoned, and no, antitoxin won't do anything for you now that you've thrown it off. However, the fortitude save happens at the start of your turn, meaning you still have your actions for this turn if you wish to take them.

Geera is aware that the spiders have no particular immunities or resistances other than just being a bunch of spiders! Mind-affecting magics wouldn't work on them, for instance, but the Society sent no psychics, so. Unfortunately this knowledge doesn't make her bomb fall much more accurately than the first one...

Swarm Reflex, entangled: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Still, her bomb manages to sear away a large number of the aggravated spiders! The swarm looks like one solid hit might disperse it... Which is good, as Rogar is thoroughly caught by the clutching grasses.

Kaya still has actions this turn if she wants them; also, only Geera attempted the Sense Motive check from the previous post (I know there was a lot of information in that post, so people may have missed it.) Anyone can attempt the Sense Motive if you wish.

Reidog Reflex Save for ending turn in entangle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Current statuses: Swarm at -7 HP; Rogar, Calder and Reidog entangled; Kaya's up for actions!

The voice sounds strange to her - nervous, unaware. It also sounds female, which means that she might be someone she could actually talk to.

Not wanting to draw too much attention to herself - seeing as, you know, she'd been poisoned - she nodded towards Geera. "Do you wanna try talking to her? She sounds scared. I bet we could get her to draw off the attack. She might know something." She doesn't know whether that-- swarm -- was attacking at the behest of the atomie or aside from it, so she looks for the flask of alchemist's fire that she remembered being in the sack Geera had lent her.

I guess... she'll throw it at the swarm's square if negotiations break down?

Since Kaya made the Sense Motive check, I'll relay this information: the flying atomie can be potentially diplomacized with a standard action, as opposed to needing a minute as per normal Diplomacy rules.

The swarm, trapped partially by the grasses, continues to writhe all over Rogar, finding chinks and holes in his armor!

Swarm damage to Rogar: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Rogar fort 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Rogar fort 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Fortunately for Rogar, his mettle is strengthened by Abadar and he suffers no ill effects from the swarm other than a few minimal bites.

The atomie laughs hysterically at Calder's attempt to reach her. "Stupid! Why are bigfolk so stupid! This is why you die, you know! With so much blood! And so much screaming! It's terrible! So you should all just die because you're idiots and you don't do what you're told!"

With that, the atomie wings effortlessly away above the battlefield, and tosses down a speck of ... something? In Calder's direction. It looks like a tiny gray puffball until it hits the ground at his feet, and promptly becomes a... bat. The tiny nocturnal mammal shrieks in confusion before flying towards the nearest creature it registers-- Calder-- to try and attack his face.

Calder, you'll get an Attack of Opportunity on the bat as it enters your square. You might kill it outright with a single hit, but I'll roll its attack and damage in case you miss:

Bat attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

The bat ineffectively bats (see what I did there) at Calder but only beats its wings pointlessly against his armor.

Barred only, Perception DC 17:
As you go to scoop up the motionless form of the old man, you hear a low, cold chuckle from just next to you.... It sounds like it is coming from just east of your current map position. I'll let you change your standard action if you want-- so far you've just moved.

Speech is a free action, right? Dunno if turn order matters for that, but if it does, totally ignore this. Realized I didn't actually, you know, try a dip roll x_x

Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Hearing the female's hysterical laughter and speech, Kaya makes a first attempt at trying to calm the atomie down. "Please, we'd only like to talk! We don't want to hurt you - won't you stop and just tell us what happened here?"

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

Speech is free, actually making some sort of check to influence attitude is a standard action, but as you didn't use your standard action on your turn, that's fine, I'll squeeze it in. :)

The little atomie hesitates, squinting down at Kaya from mid-air. "What do you mean, what happened?" she cries out. "OBVIOUSLY someone died! And I'm sorry! It wasn't my idea! Can't you all just go away?" she exclaims, her gossamer wings buzzing in a distressed fashion.

I would love to take an attack of opportunity...if I had my weapon out! As it is, Calder has taken two double moves so far, and since he hasn't got any base-attack-bonus he wasn't able to draw his weapon as part of those movements. He also wouldn't have had any weapons drawn as he approached the hut.

Calder bats back at...the bat with a wave of his hand, annoyed. He struggles against the vines restraining him. He reaches instinctively towards the whip coiled at his belt, but then he pauses briefly.

Close quarters, then. First to kill this bat, then to break free from these vines. Kaya, though...she did say just now that she had read hesitation in the flying one. Maybe the more pleasant talkers in the group could convince her to call off the battle? I would help if I could, but I'm afraid my speech would do more harm than good. She may have useful info on what's going on with the Hemzel fellow. Is he the one she meant when she said 'someone died'?

"Yes, uh, we big folk are very stupid! Stupid indeed! I....retract what I said about your kin? And the frigid wrath of the Water Lord Ragadahn?"

The combined words of Kaya, Reidog, and Geera seem to bring the atomie up short; she hovers in place before whirling around in what one might technically class as a tizzy. Since the atomie was going to undo the plants, Kaya didn't bother with trying to help Reidog and Calder, not wanting to waste time - one of their number had entered the hut but had yet to come out with any sort of news.

She'd wanted to toss her alchemist's fire at the mass of spider-y doom, but Rogar - she remember him because he was the one that'd told her to stay on the clean side of the law - was in the midst of it.

"Think you can get out of that mess?" Kaya called to Rogar. "I don't actually want to set you on fire, too." Which, you know, probably implied that she'd thought about it, but eh, semantics.

She also couldn't run to the hut. Her body ached with the reminder that it was still rather unhappy with her - she really shouldn't have advanced that way. Spiders were the actual worst. Her skin still felt like it was crawling. She shuddered and moved further away from them, preparing to chuck the flask as soon as the male was clear.

"Won't you come closer?" she asked instead. "What's your name? Who are Mister Cym and Thraven? Are they your friends?" I'm not sure if I need to continue Diplomacy checks? Again, she reminded her - "We're not looking to hurt anyone if we don't have to - we'd really rather just talk. We just got here, so we don't know what's going on."

Readied action to throw the flask at the space beneath the spiders as soon as Rogar is clear. :)

Rolls:
Throwing Alchemist's Fire: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Not sure what penalties there are for throwing stuff, but I'm hoping to make my toss out of combat. I think, since it's just the square and not the spiders themselves, it should be just one damage to square and those adjacent?

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

No more diplomacy checks needed, you've shifted her attitude enough.

The atomie does a loop in the air, gaining more altitude. "My name is Gire! Thraven is inside. He's very mean. Mister Cym is the boss but his real name is longer and he's sort of mean too. It's too late for no hurting, that already happened!"

With a gesture of one hand that is barely visible, small as she is, the atomie dismisses the magic that animates the grasses-- the greenery goes back to its normal quiescent state, releasing the grappled individuals.

"--oh, I guess that's going to let the spiders go too," the atomie says, stating the obvious as the badly-damaged swarm boils over the grasses again. "Ooops. Little bat, come here, leave the rock-man alone!"

She whistles, and the bat wings away from Calder's face, up in the air to the atomie. (Calder, you have the option to take an attack of opportunity on the bat; whether you do so is up to you.)

Before the swarm engulfs Rogar yet again (they must like half-orc), Kaya's hurled fire singes away yet more spiders!

I slightly mucked up the map; technically on Kaya's turn the swarm and Rogar would not have been in contact, meaning she could have thrown her alchemist's fire then. She hits and does the 1 damage! Unfortunately, not quite enough to drop the swarm.

Swarm damage to Rogar: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Rogar's Fort 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Rogar's Fort 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 Pass on both

Barrad regains his footing, very happy to not be on fire (I don't think bull rush knocks prone) and call to the other as he attempts to restrain the cause of his problems.

"Need a little help in here."

Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Unlikely I guess.

Calder considers for a moment attacking the bat as it retreats to the fairy. He can feel the familiar rage and bloodlust rising up in his gut. It felt like ice in the back of his throat, but he suppresses it long enough to resist the urge to strike, instead turning towards the hut where he had heard Barred call for aid.

No, not now. Sounds like more enemies in the hut. I best go help Barred. This wrath will be better served towards a more worthy adversary!

"Barred, I'm on my way!" He shouts.

"At least those damn plants are gone, but I'd give my whole inheritance for faster legs at times like these!" he says a little quieter.

Calder double moves towards the hut.

Bomb, aimed at the northwest corner of the swarm, deselecting Rogar's square.

I assumed that hit would bring the swarm down and moved my character. By my calculation, I should be able to run far enough to get into the hut. Waraxe will now be out.

I can't see it from where I am, so I'll have to attempt the identification next round.

Barred, it doesn't look like you have Improved Grapple, and you're not declaring using your martial flexibility to acquire it, so... Also, I assume you are stepping forward out of the fire to be adjacent to Thraven for your grapple attempt, so I moved you on the map.

AOO from Thraven for the grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 (miss)

Unfortunately Barred fails to grab the axe-man; fortunately, the axe in question misses him. With the plants gone, Calder and Reidog beeline for the hut, while Geera destroys the swarm with an accurate strike after several frustrating misses!

Inside the hut, Thraven bares a mouthful of teeth at Barred in a mocking grin. "What I'm here to do? Why... clear the forest of your human filth, of course... Tiiimber..."

The axe rises and falls... very painfully. The flames are really starting to spread now, licking up the wooden walls of the hut and rolling over the unmoving body on the floor.

Axe attack vs Barred: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Given the severity of his wound Barred pauses for a moment to think.

As Reidog and Rogar rush into the room he turns and once again tries to grab the fallen body to get it out of the room.

"He got me pretty good lets try and take this outside. I smacked him pretty good and he didn't flinch."

Delay action until after Reidog and Rogar enter but before Tharven acts then grab body as a move action and move outside. I think I will take another AOO so fingers crossed on not dieing.

I did not move my token as I don't know the results of my planned actions.

"Gire?" Kaya pauses, then calls again. "Gire, don't go - maybe you can help us? We're here to learn more about what's going on around these parts and you seem to know what's what."

She advances along the path, careful not to overdo it. Although she wanted to go in and help the others, she thought she was more likely to get in the way than anything else at that point - and besides, the hut didn't exactly look large.

"Can you tell me more about Mister Cym? Is Thraven the one who did the hurting?" She couldn't be sure, but she didn't know what was going on... And if Thraven was here... Well.

How to help out, the others seem to have a good handle on things, perhaps I could pour out some blessings? Or should I crack the proverbial whip? Well first things first, I'll have to move in. Geera looks like the least armored here. Good gracious the hut seems to be getting crowded, I hope the flames don't spread to much more!

Calder moves into the building, and as he does his hand holding the longsword begins emitting a white-blue light, and he makes a knighting motion on Geera's shoulders with the sword. As he does so he says

"May the armor of the most ancient of dragons protect you from harm and blade"

After he chants his invocation, the glow on his hand takes the form of a serpent-like dragon, curling around his longsword as it makes its way towards Geera, dissipating as it reaches her body. Starting from her shoulder, armor-like scales begin to appear all over her body, granting her a little more protection.

Calder will use a move action to get into the hut behind Geera and then a standard to use a scalykind blessing on Geera, giving her a +1 enhancement bonus to her natural armor.
