Sazu Magauge |
Sazu quietly informs the others.
"I can make someone invisible for one minute if you think the scouting is important Otherwise, we need to get in that cave somehow...."
Andre Karoxin |
Andre sighs. "Well...thank you...and sorry about this." He swings his quarterstaff around suddenly, trying to belt the dwarf in the side of the head and knock him out.
Attack (nonlethal) if needed: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 4 = 4 And hopefully he's flat-footed/surprised/maybe it auto-hits? :P
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 nonlethal
Andre Karoxin |
"We had best keep going and see what's happening down there," Andre says grimly. He stows his staff and draws his bow. "If they're summoning fiends from the Abyss, we need to put a stop to it."
Sazu Magauge |
"Agreed, but it pains me that we are walking directly into the lion's maw, so to speak."
Sazu hopes someone else will lead. As much as he was willing to do what was necessary, he rather let the sturdier folk take point.
Ihon Volarian |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Perception (familiar): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 low-light, scent
Ihon nods and follows the others. (I think we still have light cast on something? And assuming we don't try to be stealthy since that's hard for more than half the group. But Ihon is willing, if everyone else wants to.)
Sazu Magauge |
I'd rather we have actions queued in case of an ambush if we can. Sazu readying an action to shoot his crossbow if he sees a cultist.
Ihon Volarian |
Well, we could go with "We're walking slowly", but with Phaedra's roll, "stealthy" is out of the question. ;)
Andre Karoxin |
Yeah, I'm not sure it's "stealth" so much as just moving slowly forward, eyes ahead. ;)
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Can someone cast light?
DM Morvius |
You all start to walk forward slowly and as you head down the tunnel there is another flash of light and sound. This time, closer to the point of origin, you feel heat as well.
The light persists and it takes a reddish tint. When you finally round the next corner you see a massive chamber with a high ceiling that appears to either be falling down or the chamber is growing as you look at it.
The floor of the chamber is littered with dead bodies of a variety of races, most burned and torn apart. In the center, upon a flickering altar, stands a three foot tall bestial-looking humanoid with tattered robes and blueish-gray skin. It is carrying a flaming longsword and is surrounded by a cloud of smoke. At the moment, it seems to be focused on a hovering red globe of light and doesn't seem to have noticed you or at least isn't paying attention.
Ihon Volarian |
A Brimorak, Ihon whispers as he waves the others back out of the room and out of sight. Fire and electricity are worthless. It's resistant to most things and can spit out fire. It's stench sickens people that approach it, so be wary.
Do we think we can get away with casting a few spells before entering the room? Or do we think it will hear us or notice us if we do? If not, Ihon will cast magic weapon on Amideo's weapon.
Sazu Magauge |
"good to know..." Sazu whispers back, his eyes trained on the demonic being.
Sazu readies his crossbow, ready to try sticking something that would most likely resist the sharp, but mundane, bolts of metal.
DM Morvius |
You think that the guy probably could hear you from where you are if he was interested in doing so. You could, however, retreat back up the tunnel to a point where he couldn't, though you'd lose sight of him.
Phaedra, you suspect that a ritual to Rovagug probably happened here. It isn't clear whether this demon was summoned specifically, but some sort of summoning is likely and the orb being looked at by the demon is likely related to that.
Andre Karoxin |
"Is it trying to summon more of its kind?" Andre whispers when Phaedra (presumably) conveys her realization to him. "If so, we had best end it now!" He tightens his grasp on his bow and draws an arrow, ready to nock.
Phaedra Valerius |
"We definitely need to kill that thing and take the orb. Possibly even destroy it if we can."
Phaedra will begin her raging song as she prepares to rush into the room at the orb wielding demon.
Intit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Andre Karoxin |
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Surprise around, Init 8
As Phaedra charges in, Andre steps forward to get a clear shot, and looses an arrow at the demon!
5' step if needed to get the shot, and fire!
Arrow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Ihon Volarian |
Surprise Round: Initiative 28
Ihon casts glitterdust (DC 17) on the creature.
Round 1: Initiative 28
Ihon touches Phaedra on the shoulder using diviner's fortune. (+2 insight bonus on all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round)
Phaedra Valerius |
Surprise Round
Init 10
Continueng to Rage
Phaedra moves up 30 feet towards the demon.
Round 1
init 10
Phaedra closes in on the demon and swings her sword at it.
melee attack, +1 weapon: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4) + 7 = 15
Sazu Magauge |
Oh, I misread the round 1 actions and missed the surprise round detail completely. *palm to forehead.
Sazu uses his surprise round to get a bardic inspiration up and going. and moves into cover if its nearby.
Andre Karoxin |
Assuming that was its round 1:
ROUND ONE: initiative 8
Andre curses as his arrow fails to penetrate the demon's hide. Foul creature of the Abyss...and mortal weapons are no use! He doesn't have many options, though. Striding forward, he draws another arrow and fires at the fiend once more!
Attack, PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Arrow recovery: 1d100 ⇒ 69
Move to within 30' and fire!
He curses as the arrow goes wide!
Sazu Magauge |
Round 1
HP: 25/26
BI: 9/16
Sazu fires his crossbow while maintaining bardic inspiration.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
DM Morvius |
Round 1
The ranged attacks at the demon both go wide, but Phaedra is able to connect with her melee attack. The demon seems to resist a portion of the damage, but the bulk of it goes through.
Just giving Amideo a chance to post Round 1 stuff. People can start posting Round 2 actions if they'd like to.
Andre Karoxin |
Andre once again fires at the demon. Damnation! I can't feel Old Deadeye's blessings hardly at all...this could be a dark day if I don't manage to pull myself together!
Deciding that it's time to take some risks, the priest lets out a bellow and grows up to twice his normal height!
Using enlarge in the hopes that these damage dice will help...
Attack (again!), PBS. No soft cover as long as there's only one person between me and the demon: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 2 + 1 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5) + 1 = 7
Guessing that doesn't hit...
Arrow Recovery: 1d100 ⇒ 27
Ihon Volarian |
Amideo, note that Phaedra is doing her Song of Rage. Anyone who wants can take part in that Rage. It'll give you a +2 Str and Con, a +1 Will, and a -1 AC. It's well worth accepting for melee.
Round 2: Initiative 28
Ihon moves up behind Phaedra and touches her shoulder again using diviner's fortune. (+2 insight bonus on all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round)
DM Morvius |
Round 2
Both Amideo and Andre miss the demon, who seems quite unhappy to be attacked.
Everyone who is within, or steps within, 5ft of the creature needs to make a DC 17 fort save or become Sickened.
The demon proceeds to swing at Amideo with a flaming longsword.
Longsword 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (1) = 10
Longsword 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (2) = 8
Longsword 1 Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Apparently NPCs have stolen all of the dice luck. Here's hoping it passes back your way.
Ihon Volarian |
If Amideo is still standing you might want to move to flank. Also, remember that Sazu is singing, so you get another +1/+1.
