As I said in THIS POST I don't think a reskin of Venture Town is going to offend C-Brain. I would be flattered, but if he's totally against it, let's do something else...
@Dajelly -
*Mai is almost finished, only feats to choose, and can I use average starting gold?
* Do you think you'll open this up for further recruitment?

Rope is always a good idea. I wish I had thought of that ealier.
As far as the setting goes, I think using the same concept would be okay. Maybe this ancient complex was only discovered a few years before so the city above has more of a boom town feel. Three taverns. Two stables. One shop selling really limited minor magic items. I’d have to rework my PC’s background a bit (good bye Floating Petals), but that’s okay.

While I love the heaving seething dark underbelly of a truly immense jumbling Venture Town, there is something to be said for arriving at the infancy of such a settlement. Like becoming lords and ladies of said settlement...
Nice one Malbrighka!
P.S. maybe I'll change Mai's name to avoid confusion with Mal and Mai?
DajellyMan |
Ok, so we have our group of 6 now:
- Vai, the human direlock
- Mal, the half-orc sorcerer
- Marrant, the aasimar paladin
- Farrin, the dwarf wizard
- Zehanet. the ratfolk magus
- and a human cleric of Abadar
Oh this will be fun! You have almost all arcane and divine casters / martial fighters hehe. Let's hope there's no traps right?

Zee shouts at the cave as loud as he can. Seeing the others look at him askance he shrugs and blushes so brightly his fur reddens.
The fourth wall called me I answered.
Glad I did this in discussion.

Vai has an Int of 16, so should have 3 extra languages as well as Common. Question - is this Golarion? Or Homebrewia? I find Golarion more difficult as I'm not at all aware of who knows what where. I could choose Undercommon I guess...
As Vai was based on being Vek's sister and had a backstory very similar, I'll have to assign some verisimilitudinous background if this is Golarion...
DajellyMan |
In Mario 64, to get to the different levels, you jump into the painting, and said painting takes you to the world depicted.
Lol, I had three scenarios written up based on which direction at the fork you guys took, and you chose the one least relevant to exploring the ruins, but probably my favorite one ;p

If the GM allows you could leave the slots blank and learn the languages as we go along. Not the normal way of doing things but a little more organic approach. Marrant can teach you celestial if you like, but it might be more useful to pick up undercommon from Zehanet.
DajellyMan |
I'm fine with that.
And if there is still confusion, we are in Golarion (sorry, I'm sort of a pathfinder campaign setting whore, there is just so much detail and information available in the books and as the past couple years it has taken up a lot of my reading and I sort of fell in love with it [it has everything!.
Specifically we are in the eastern part of Taldor. I chose Taldor because I think its one of the few places I have never been playing pathfinder, and I really dig its culture. It's very classic European folklore with a country that was once chivalrous knights and maidens and brave armies that as it grew also grew corrupt and now has a+**%*! king (there's even a lot about war with Qadira that is a lot like the Crusades!)

Hey all,
I will be getting on a plane to head to Phoenix in a couple hours, going to be visiting my dad for a couple weeks (why he chose to move to Arizona is beyond me o.O).
I will be unable to access my desktop during this time as my normal laptop is broken and I will be using this chromebook, which I really have no nice things to say about (it was a gift!). What this means for us is that I will be unable to create or edit maps of any kind.
I will still be able to post and all that, but we'll be sort of going "theater of the mind" for a little while until I'm back home and have access to my programs again.
Anyways, I hope everyone has a happy holiday! I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of posting while I wait for my flight, so except gameplay to be updated shortly!

I don't know what's wrong with Arizona, unless you think being far away from civilization is a bad thing.
While I'm on holiday, I'm smartphone only, which makes googledocs slightly less exact (doesn't always show everything) and slightly less usable (no zooming). So theater of the mind is fine by me for a bit.
Thanks for the heads up Da-J Man!

I've never played 1st ed, started playing with 2nd. Were gnomes really that small?!
From the CRB:
Physical Description: Gnomes are one of the smallest of the common races, generally standing just over 3 feet in height. Their hair tends toward vibrant colors such as the fiery orange of autumn leaves, the verdant green of forests at springtime, or the deep reds and purples of wildflowers in bloom. Similarly, their flesh tones range from earthy browns to floral pinks, frequently with little regard for heredity. Gnomes possess highly mutable facial characteristics, and many have overly large mouths and eyes, an effect which can be both disturbing and stunning, depending on the individual.

Like I said, it was a loooong time ago. I hate gnomes, halflings and dwarves with a psychotic passion (sorry Farrin! - you're easily the finest dwarf I've adventured with, and I loathe dwarves less than gnomes and halflings). I'm not much of an elf-lover either. I think it's my Tolkien-hating that does it...
Vai'anassena See |
No, I love the Kyle McLachlan/Sting/PatrickMakeitsoMan Movie, but the first book is basically the Cold War writ large.
If you are interested, Scott Gladstein of Little Red Goblin Games has posted a PF conversion of Dune in Homebrew. It's very nice. I can try to find a link a little later.
I dislike a *lot* of stuff in "popular" culture. Must be all that time I spent living in the woods running around barefoot in a kilt.... Thinking it is crazy to hate something is... crazy. ;p
Ask me how much I dislike the Forgotten Boredoms sometime. Actually, don't.
As for Tarrasques, bring 'em on. Been playing since BECMI/1e never encountered those weaksauce pretendinosaurs. I have my halfling and gnome ammunition ready for my catapults and wrist mounted trebuchets.
Farrin Druzak |
The Spice MUST flow.
If it does not, how will the Spacers get us from Earth to This world we are in here Jelly? Not to mention nobody will be able to reach the Warp in the 40k universe..
I have a friend that is 6'7" he refuses to play anything taller then a Halfling, generally gnomes. very rarly a dwarf. Once since 88 an elf.
Me its a dwarf that I usually play, or a half-elf. I dislike humans, mechanically they are a good choice in games, but I play one here on earth 24/7.. I like to be something else in these games. I love warforged and Lizardmen too, but one isn't generally allowed in PF games and the other is assumed to be a monster almost everywhere.
You will never find a gnome or Halfling npc in any of my games, if its a written story I will change their races. If a player makes one.. they will never encounter one as a npc. :)
Vai'anassena See |
Damn straight Farrin!
I'm playing a Warforged in 5e PbP and ran a Lizardman in an abortive Sunless Citadel PbP. Loved Lizardfolk since 1e. You speak my language!
I never choose a race OR class for mechanical advantage. I choose everything based on concept. Which is why I'm often sub-optimally built...
DajellyMan |
Sounds like a challenge!
I like the idea of forgotten realms because it reminds me if being a little kid day dreaming about fantasy worlds (whil reading lord of the rings ;p) but I never really liked any if the books or anything else too much. Dritz is just... So stupid.
Don't get me wrong, I played in several campaign using the campaign setting and loved them but I attribute that to our dm at the time. And I have to say, all the interviews / videos of seen of Ed greenwood, he seems like a real cool guy. The video of him and several other authors playing d and d with Chris Perkins dming is fantastic!
heres the link. I actually thoroughly enjoy all the live d and d videos with Chris Perkins. Crack me up!
And I'm totally interested in a dune conversion! I live that movie (really the books too, but I see what you mean about the Cold War)

Don't go changing Da-J. It's nice to like things apparently. My problem with FR is the nauseatingly derivative and cookie cutter approach to world-building and the mind-numbingly ubiquitous double-barrelled names for places.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed playing all the way through Neverwinter Nights (and Shadows of Undrentide/Hordes of the Underdark) and NWN 2, though it was more because I was playing a Monk/Paladin in NWN and a Warlock in NWN 2.

@Beylinda please put a light spell on Vai's sword, She can only see 25 feet in front of her and 20 of that has a 20% mischance. Is worse for Marrant since his range is cut to pieces. I should have thought of that while I was making the positions.
@ Vai you might want to invest in blind fight.
@gm do I count as low cover or soft cover for the archer.
ie. A low obstacle (such as a wall no higher than half your height) provides cover, but only to creatures within 30 feet (6 squares) of it. The attacker can ignore the cover if he's closer to the obstacle than his target.
I am half his height at small. I don't really care either way since I am planning on keeping my self reduced in latter fights.[/ooc]
