There are two heavy wooden shields, one heavy steel shield, one tower shield besides the one Saronis took, three wooden light shields, and two bucklers. You don't have to take a shield, but most Drow have one.

"Well, sure, that's why I am going to use it in the last part of the approach. Let's go..."

She takes Zharon, her fox, into her arms and whispers into its ears: You be careful, alright. Use distractions and cover. And stay close. Not that the fox understands her, but he will get the notion of urgency.

She will slip out in the cover of the first to take up a shield. If no one does she will take a tower shield herself and move out to the next cover.

She ain't trained with shields, but it can't be that difficult to basically carry a wall in front of you, even if it might mean she'll have to move slowly. Tanira and Zharon should still be affected by a mage armor from a staff, even though it won't last particularly long.

"Tanira, Quantos grab a heavy shield if you can and stand behind us cover our heads as we move forward. Cil move ahead and scout for us, let us know of any surprises." He takes on the role of operator to help the group coordinate, since no one else is stepping up to the plate.

i figured i failed my know arcana.

I am kinda confused as to exactly what Quantos knows and is expected to tell the others..?

Quantos looks for a heavy shield to protect his employer from the rain of arrows that he assuredly expects.


Quantos:
When in doubt more info is better, just copy all the info and put it in a spoiler, then spoiler what you know, otherwise we will likely have to dig up the info later, a link to the posts would be helpful as well instead of copying all the info. Just giving you options.

Quantos did you even attempt to do the checks?

Yes the key is magical and the only thing really you could take. The wagon is too heavy and big. There is the body you could rifle through.

The problem I have with your request is, I do not know what exactly Quantos knows. I didn't get a response to my spellcraft check, and it was very low so I figured I had failed it.

I would take the key, I saw it was magical and Jake asked for it.

Everyone seems pressed to move on for some reason, so i dont know if i should look through the body.

Not to mention I dont even know WHERE the wagon IS in comparison to the rest of the party, and there was mention of some other wagons?

Looking wistfully at the large tower shields, Cil crouches behind a large rock, then peers ahead to get the lay of the land.

Satisfied, she looks back at Saronis and smiles "Do try to keep up!" and darts out, rolling into the protection of another rock further ahead.

Forward Heroes ! Lets Turtle up was all that Jake had to say while moving in unison with Saronis taking full cover behind the tower shield as they were advancing, with a cover of large shield above their heads.


Unless someone breaks from formation you have total cover from the barrage of arrows. After 150 feet cover gets sparse but that is not a problem for those who make their own cover.

Cil at this point you may stick with the group, hide near the group in the tall grasses, or explore one of three locations of cover. I need a perception check to relay what you see. Also feel free to take creative license to describe your sneaking.

A wagon is 40 feet away, a boulder with several crates is about 35 feet away, and what looks like a 10 foot wide pit is 45 feet away; they are all in different directions but leading to the structure.

Quantos:
With Detect Magic you may do an Arcane check for each aura you see.

So all you know is what you saw and your own speculation. You have the strange key, and you think there might be enough time to rifle through his body. If you want perception check.

The wagon is about 15 feet from Cil and her chest.

Saronis is in a hurry to help the Drow rather than dragging his feet and looking lazy or likely something along that line, you think. Also the Drow are waiting for a sign before raining death upon the crater again.

A row of supply wagons is at the base of the passage to the crater, it looks like it was used as cover for both sides.

A map should not be needed until you get to the structure, if it gets too confusing let me know and I will whip one out.

ok, got it. I see that I should have posted multiple arcane checks. I assume on ourway out of the crater ill have more time to iinvestigate with another pair of eyes.

You find several pouches, a strange belt with a unique locking mechanism shaped like an imp and a dragon fighting (Wis or Int DC 12 to unlock it), a broken composite bow and a covered quiver.

As you unlatch the pouches from his belt your detect spell sees some auras pop up in one of the pouches. Feeling them you believe one is a coin purse, another holds potions, and the last holds odds and ends, if you want to open them just say so. Also note which items you take .

Cil clutches her cloak about her, it's fabric seemingly imitating the foliage and stones about her. Flitting from rock to rock, occasionally stopping to look back at the progress of the other's 'turtle' formation, she makes her way towards the shelter of the wagon.

Tanira took Zharon into his arms and carries him to keep him protected in their shield formation and progresses with the lot of the group.

Quantos:
The quiver shows as magical as well once you pull it from the corpse. The clothes of the man seem to have some good wear and tare on them, but the explorer's outfit is stained with blood.

Cil:
You make it to the wagon and lean against one of the wheels taking a breath thinking you are safe for the moment, then you notice the mostly covered snickering as you peek around the wheel to see five goblins hiding below it. They stand above several Drow bodies and a quick look shows that about a dozen Drow bodies are around the wagon with dagger wounds or necks slashed. They likely were hiding but now with the moving cover coming near they likely couldn't hold their glee in at the prospect of more victims.

Under a hail of arrows the four of them continue moving, only a most excellent shot would hurt any of you.

Just double checking, Tanira did you leave your horse behind? Tanira with the fox in one hand do you hold a shield above with the other?

The three arrows that hit Saronis hit him in consecutive rounds. Tanira has little time to react and heal him. Though the first two hit him hard, one in the foot the other hits through his helm, the last one breaks through his shield scratching his arm. Quantos gets hit hard as an arrow breaks through his shield impaling his arm, this happens a minute after Saronis was hit.

Initially he calls out to Cil, keeping a very slow pace listening for any report from Cil since she is their eyes at this moment, "Cil any thing we should worry about ahead or deviate from our present course?"

Each time he gets hit he reacts differently. The first time as his foot is hit he grunts and calls for healing. The second time he cries out in pain as he stumbles from the massive amount of pain in his head, he stays standing and hopes Tanira can heal him and pull the arrow out, with no cover in sight he knows that he must hold the line. The last arrow he does not even notice considering the amount of pain he is currently feeling.

"Is everyone alright? Anyone hurt besides me, Quantos? I need to take a break behind some cover? Cil any cover that you would suggest we should take a break." He asks, wanting to know the status of his allies and wants to take a moment. He holds the tower shield with one hand, it covers almost his entire body from ankles to head. In his other hand rests his warhammer, ready to strike anyone foolish enough to come up on his open side.

Well, I thought we all left our horse where Saronis left his. I didn't realize that I was using a shield as well, just moving in the bulk but if I have to I take my fox on one arm and use a shield with the other

Tanira hastily casts a cure spell from her want on Saronis.
Cure Light Wounds (CL1): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9


You don't have to take the shield but you will only have partial cover and your chance of being attacked is much higher, all of the arrow attacks are coming from elevated positions.

Tanira, your 'Round 1' action was to draw your wand and heal Saronis, which do you drop the shield or the fox?

Please post your 'Round 2, 3, and 9th' actions as well, Tanira. Everyone if you have something of note to which you want to state what you do or act, feel free and post.

Arrows whip through the air, not just towards your group, but the crates next to the boulders, also in many other directions from the elevated positions of the structure.

Heal check to pull an arrow out of someone:

A Heal check DC will pull the arrow out with no extra damage but both hands are needed. A DC 20 with one hand will only inflict 1 point of damage.
Otherwise 1d8 points of damage happen when pulled out of a vital area, 1d4 if nonvital.
If pulling the arrow out at the same time of a healing spell the damage is halved rounded up.

Quantos grits his teeth and grunts heavily as the arrow pierces the shield, and subsequently, his arm. The pain dulls as it brings back memories of another life...

On hearing his name, he snaps back into reality. Answering Saronis's question, he replies, "Just got the shield nailed to my arm in the worst way. I have potions, but need a sec to get them out. And that's after someone helps me get this thing out of my arm."

"Right, right, just like this arrow in my head. We need cover." Saronis says holding back the pain hoping for more aid or to get to cover. He yells out to Cil, "What path, forward or otherwise, do we have cover?" He says these words in response to Quantos, now there is some cover in sight that the others likely see.

From the wound on Saronis's head, there is still bleeding unless the arrow was taken out when healed. Thus he cannot see well and is effectively blind. He puts the end of his warhammer on his belt where it normally resides and holds the shield with both hands. He waits to mimic the movements of the fellow tower shield wielder.

Cil looks back at Saronis and makes sure he's seen her. Then she holds out her hand indicating 5, then her brow furrows in concentration and her face takes on a general goblinoid appearance. She points under the wagon , then back at her face , then holds her hand out again.

She continues to stare at Saronis until she's sure he understands.

Well removing a shield is a move action. Thus I let the fox down (I won't just drop it) and heal Saronis next round.


Perception DC 19 to see Cil and her pantomiming.

"Damn it, cover me." It doesn't look like it's a good idea to heal Saronis out in the open, but it doesn't look it's going to onward any other way.

Round 1: Heal with the wand as previously mentioned, and remove the shield.
Round 2: She gets a scroll out of her scroll box. "Stay close! I'll create a mist." Cast Obscuring Mist from the scroll. She actually wanted to save it for the final approach be she needs cover right here and now.
Round 3: "Someone give me a hand - a need some clean piece of cloth and fresh water. Here press there, while I remove it." She starts to carefully remove the arrows, holding her wand ready to heal again. Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Cil the group will catch up to you soon.

The fog would have been created at most 40 feet from the barricade made of wagons.

Saronis and Jake hold the tower shields so no stray arrows hit the group, it looks like Quantos will still be hit since the cloud is stationary.

weird how the first DC was gone, it is DC 15 just like treating other wounds and such.

With the quick thinking little lizard he pulls out a stick from his belly and touches Saronis with it speaking a strange word and a green and white spell circles around his foot. Then the little guy snaps off the end of the arrow, hisses at Saronis who lifts his foot, Sly then pushes and then pulls out that arrow from his foot at the same time. Even with Quantos' aid the arrow does not come out right and hurts him more, luckily little because of the healing spell on him, 1 point of damage each arrow.


Male shocker lizard?

Healing: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 DC 15

The little lizard hisses at Saronis as he pulls out a stick from his belly. With a swish of it and a tap, green and white magic begins to circle his foot.

Then he gets to work prepping the removal of the arrow in Saronis' foot. In lightning sapped mode he breaks off most of the arrow, then pushes it down the flesh of his foot. Quickly getting to the bottom of the heel he pulls the arrow the rest of the way through, fast enough gone that when Saronis puts his foot down in pain the lizard is gone and smiling at his handy work. Tapping him again with the same wand.

Once Tanira is done tending to Saronis she feels a small tug on her pants or dress from below. In his hissing voice he says childishly, "Here you can have the wandsss that Tharsss was not usssing. The Elven word for Toad makesss the lessssor vigor work, the Elven word for skylark makesss the cure light work." He pulls another two wands from his belly and replaces the first stretching up to hand you the other two.

He then scurries up Saronis's back to sit on the back of his backpack.

"Well, one minute, I need to fix my arm as well, if there is time. Right in between the bones, eh?" he says through his teeth. "If you could get this out, that would help. I'll try to reach my potion"

Quantos sticks his sword in the ground for a second, and rummages through his belt for a potion, but waits to quaff it until the arrow is removed.


Quantos unfortunetly the arrow that is in your arm happens after the spell dissipates and near the wagon Cil took cover in. So no immediate healing, unless Tanira wants to just heal you with a cure light wounds spell.

Once Saronis is taken care of the group continues to move eventually getting into another situation with Quantos taking an arrow in the arm. The group might see Cil's antics if they get a perception DC 19.

Jake and I will do our best to harry them and Tanira takes care of Quantos, use a lesser vigor to help with the pull of the arrow, I know Thar had those, I am glad the little lizard took those from him. I wonder what else he took of ours. Any questions, we got 30 more feet." The group slowly advances upon the wagon.

Cil, growing frustrated as the others refuse to see her motion, sighs with relief when Saronis notices her and nods his understanding.

With a tight smile in return, Cil moves to a spot where she can attack the goblins unawares when the others arrive.

"Jake you want me to give you cover with my tower shield as you destroy the wheels on the other side with your greatsword?" He smiles at the future tactics of goblin paste.

"Tanira would you tap both of us with a lesser vigor before we seperate please. We will still give you cover, blocking the goblins under the wagon as Tanira frees Quantos from the arrow." Saronis suggests trying to think of the many possible outcomes and actions they could take.

That would be splendid he says taking out the great weapon.

Tanira seems a little on edge as she unintentionally responds in elven: "Alright, alright" She shakes herself and continues in common: "Here you go, just ... be swift and stay focused." Her voice and the way she looks indicate that she actually just wanted to say 'be careful, don't get killed'.

She fumbles for a moment with the unfamiliar wand. "Ah, there... got it!"
She casts lesser vigor on both Saronis and Jake.

After that she immediatly puts the wand into the garter on her right thigh which holds her other wands and, puts her healing wand next to Quantos in case she may need it.

"Alright, sit down and hold still. Can anyone assist me?" Carefully she check for veins and arteries next to the arrow head, trying to find the best way to remove it. "You better bite on something, it's gonna hurt a whole lot more." She cuts the arrow between arm and shiel, removes the shield and uses her dagger to cut the arrow head carefully free and tries to remove it through the entry wound.

Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Doesn't seem to be my lucky day.

"Alright, that didn't work." She casts a healing spell on Quantos from her wand to make sure she didn't just make it worse.

Damage Quantos takes from the first attempt: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

And then she tries the procedure again. Her fox squeezing close to her this time, which helps her focus.

Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage Quantos takes from the second attempt: 1d4 ⇒ 1

"That should do it." She seems relieved and pets her fox Zharon. She gives Quantos his shield back, picks up her own. "Let's get out of her before the mist dissolves."
