One question about the gaurd beatdown, you rolled damage but never rolled to hit. Can the gaurds auto hit us because we are chained?
She was denied her Dex bonus and they are +4 to hit any chained prisoner, so AC 6 plus any to hit bonus they have for Class and STR.
If I rolled I might have crit.
If she resisted and tried to avoid blows, they would have went to town on her further. No win situation.
I let it end there. Had they heard her casting, oh boy, bad things owuld happen!
Guard(s) posted for the group at door AND she would be dead.
I am trying to be impartial, but part of me wants to see you succeed of course! Give the DM some trust and a little room to work with.

Slight digression here, since we are waiting and many thanks to Sir Douglas M.
What does Infernal sound like?
One could hazard a guess, but I my campaign Infernal is all complex vowels, harsh gutturals and fricatives, hisses and clicks.
Good spoken proper Infernal is staccato and severely rapidfire. You know the South African language with all the clicky sounds? Imagine that being barked by a senior Prussian officer in an SS uniform.
Most mortals find Infernal unpleasant to listen to, but if you're Lawful Evil you may well fall in love with its precision and its power.
Sometimes you just need a language with nine different ways to say "flay him alive".
And Abyssal? Well, Abyssal is very different. Lots of irregular verbs, for starters. (Actually, pretty much all the verbs are irregular.) And most of the words are synonyms with multiple meanings. On the other hand, Abyssal is an agglutinative language that allows a clever user to generate all kinds of neat neologisms on the fly. It sounds rather slobbery, with lots of glottal stops and labials and plosives. The vowel sounds tend to be long and drawn out. It sounds arrhythmic and gurgly.
Abyssal is a great language for gloating, for evil monologues, and for mad, crazed, howling raving at the moon.
If you like Infernal, Abyssal is likely to get on your nerves -- it's so imprecise, and it makes you sound drunk. If you like Abyssal ... your probably drunk right now. And naked. Riding a blind bull. That you just raped.
Infernal is very, very rich in honorifics. Choosing the correct honorific is a major social minefield. If you choose one that's too weak -- like addressing the Ice Devil as "Great Fearsome Lord" instead of "Most Fearsome Lord", for instance -- it's an insult. Choosing one that's too strong is just as bad, because it forces the recipient to correct you. Instruction in Infernal spends a lot of time on this.
There are a lot of humilifics -- words to indicate low status -- as well. They're not quite as dangerous as the honorifics, but they're not without risk, either.
If you say to a senior devil, "your obedient servant greets you" instead of "your obedient and humble servant greets you", you're risking at best a sharp rebuke. At worst, the devil may ask you to demonstrate that you deserve the promotion you've just given yourself.

That sounds like a standard saturday night where I come from...
What's your take on Aklo?
Old School Dungeon Master |
Our 16th level Cleric died, my Wizard brought her back to life with a Limited Wish. Snark's 14th Level Fighter cohort died, a few other PC's were in the negatives. But both Wizards and the Ranger hardly took damage.
It was nearly a 2 1/2 hour fight, that's all we did for the game. It was like several battleships trading shots, with the escort ships being sunk (well and brought back to life).
Fun campaign, little bit heavy on the Dungeon Crawl but still good.
Ed was clearly more forgiving. He cast Disjunction and did not hit us with all the effects of the spell.

Discussion on Infernal and Abyssal
I found in the messageboards a cool Idea about these languages- using Google Translate to post odd alphabets that emulates such speech. (just post your spoilered text in there, translate to a cool language and copy the result to here..)
I copied here an example of the cool languages there:
Armanian:

What do you think?

Advance the plot= let the guards finally leave with Cadjet
or
Advance the plot= jump to a much later time of the day
?
Because I'm waiting for the current scene to finish before posting actions. Khara is at -1 nonlethal and will take her an hour to reach 0hp and regain consciousness. When that happens I have some actions/thoughts/group interactions in mind.
Greyfield |
My character would follow your lead, most definitely. I'm thinking of grappling a guard (if even possible) and do the whole hostage situation thing.
Ya know, things normal d20 heroes would never do haha

You were actually worried? Even with my Inquisitor, "El Capitano Whoop-ass" leading the charge?

If you were wondering, in the gameplay thread, the interaction is based from a phone call and several emails Rene and I had.
My apologies if it turned into somewhat of a narrative, its only a brief interlude.
Then for better or TPK, the main game begins in earnest.

What's your take on Aklo?
Again my thanks to Douglas M.
Aklo is something else -- still Chaotic Evil, but the language of Lovecraftian creatures. (It comes from a throwaway line in Lovecraft's story, "The Dunwich Horror". Which is a fine story, BTW.)
I imagine it also as sounding like the Language of the Dead from Stephen King's double novel Desperation / The Regulators -- simple, brutal syllables, each with multiple possible meanings.
A very disturbing, other worldly, and alien language.

What would your ruling be if I wanted to mostly use a straight razor in combat? Improvised weapon or can I just reskin a dagger? I know about the war razor but I'm talking about just your standard shaving tool.
Old School Dungeon Master |
What would your ruling be if I wanted to mostly use a straight razor in combat?
Well how would you fairly rule that as a DM? And the genuine 'old fashioned' barbers who still use razors today and charge $20 to shave you are considered experts at what they do.
A war razor is Martial right?
War Razor 8 gp 1d4 19-20/×2 1 lb. S
I would probably put the damage of a straight razor at 1d2 at best.

GM, let me know at which point an hour passes, so I will regain consciousness and join the conversation
You can always post in discussion thread.
Nearly 18 minutes have passed since your beating by the time they return Sir Cudjet to the cell, waiting for others like Enosh and Sir Cudjet to post but if they have not posted by tonight I can advance it to where you are actively conscious.
If certain actions take place that need to be fixed in retroactive continuity later on, I am fine as long as it takes places logically and within 1 day of the original post.

One of the things I really dislike about Pathfinder is how they make weapons to be so damn complicated. Ideally, I'd like to see on the books only dagger/shortsword/longsword/greatsword with a singular mechanics for each size, and allow you to fluff out your weapon however you like (scimitar? saber? cutlass? katana? khopesh? Falkata? You can make your sword in whatever shape you want and call it whatever you want, it's a longsword. ). I see no reason why a razor would have mechanics different from a knife. (except that you can't stab with it)
Enosh |
In case my little reference went over your head- I've got friends on the other side
Khara Thrust |
AArg, if Greyfield is correct in his guess about the veil I'm really pissed! I made so many plans on how to escape the cell without any help, and they just go ahead and give us the tools on a silver platter? that's really disappointing.
Khara Thrust |
You know, if they'd wrote in a possibility of nicking spell components off guards, or using fishbones from the food bowl to pick the locks, or something like that- It'd been okay. I think I could have planned without it- I worked hard to think of ways to take one guard and charm the other while we're all chained to the wall- but apparently that's not needed and I spent the whole week plotting (and took a serious beating) for no reason... :-\
