Zinnath the Scary |
When that priest tried to cast silence my readied action went off, so I hit him with a snowball for 10 damage. He needs to make a concentration check, and also a DC 14 Fort save, or be staggered!
"It's bad, real bad, I'm not going to lie! Fezzik can't move, and one of them is trying to kill him! Deko is down! There are still some bad guys left. Deko is to your right, and Fezzik to your left. do something!"
GM, what is your ruling on doing a coup de gras against an invisible creature?
DM Jesse Heinig |
Coup de grace is a precision attack, so it will fail against a target that you can't see, just like you can't sneak attack someone with concealment.
Concentration check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Zinnath pops out and hits the priest with a nasty snowball, but this does not stop the priest from completing his quick spell to call down silence.
Bataleigha Silvercrest |
[Mentally to Zinnath]: Tell Enoby and Kyrie to drag Fezzik away!
Ack! Ran out of time! Will post Bat's actions tomorrow! Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel!
Zinnath the Scary |
To the group, including Fezzik, who can still communicate with me mentally, if he chooses: "Everyone, Bat says that Enoby and Kyrie should try and haul Fezzik away. He seems awfully big for that though, to me at least. Besides, Bat doesn't know I just made Fezzik invisible. Bat, can you maybe back away from the bad guy, straight back to the wall, and reach forward to heal Deko?]
Bataleigha Silvercrest |
Bataleigha is about to take a desperation swing at the warrior menacing the helpless Fezzik when Zinnath's words reach her mind. Hopeful that the others can keep the half-ogre from harm, Bat channels energy to heal/stabilize Deko (and, unfortunately, some of the villains).
[Mentally to Zinnath]: Gonna stay where I am to shield Fezzik. It's been an honor fighting alongside you.
Then Bat readies herself for what she expects will be a world of pain. Pelor protect me!

Kyrie, the Remorseless |
DM, I see precious little about how my Summoned Eagle did against the bodyguard. If all the attacks are misses, that would be good to know. =)
The guard, focuses on murdering the still giant, darts behind the bodyguard, right into the sights of the celestial Eagle! An iron talon...
Eagle Claw AOO!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Fails to hit.
Kyrie stands in silent struggle as the malicious spell threatens to shut down her font of arcane power
Will save!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
"Hah! Your feeble magicks are as parlor tricks against a wielder of true power! But let us first rid the board of another of your insufferable pawns!"
The Eagle steps over a scant 5 feet and focuses it's attack on the coup-de-graceing guard, even as Kyrie's missile of magic smashes in to him!
Eagle Claw w/ flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 = 23
Eagle talon damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Eagle Talon 1 w/ flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Eagle talon damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Eagle talon 2 w/ flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
Eagle talon 2 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
(last) Magic Missile damage!: 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6
DC 16 trip check *huff* *huff* How's that? =)
DM Jesse Heinig |
The eagle's screeching talons and beak attacks mostly batter off the bodyguard's heavy armor and helm, though he does have to catch his balance once or twice.
Mostly didn't get to his AC, only a little damage got through.
Fezzik suddenly disappears and the guard stumbles as he loses the placement of his sword for his killing blow!
The eagle then swoops in on the guard attacking Fezzik and scratches him as well! Kyrie's magical bolt slams into the guard and sends him sprawling only seconds later.
Bat releases positive energy, which stabilizes several of the foes as well as healing her allies. Deko wakes up, groggily.
Deko lashes out at the bodyguard from the ground.
Deko punch!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Deko damage!: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
The bodyguard grunts as his foot is smashed!
Enoby launches an arrow at him...
Enoby: Shortbow: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10
...but firing past the frontline into combat, it glances off his shield.
The bodyguard brings his sword down on Deko.
Bodyguard: Longsword: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27 (+4 for attacking a prone enemy)
Bodyguard: Longsword damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
The half-orc is knocked into unconsciousness again.
The evil priest spins and swings his mace at the eagle.
Evil priest: Mace attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Evil priest: Mace damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
His strike smashes into the eagle and he grins as blood showers his face. "This is what happens to those who try to fly too high."
PARTY UP! Fezzik gets another save!
Fezzik Faststrike |
Will save (DC16): 1d20 ⇒ 14 sigh
Fezzik tries to close his eyes as the guard lines up a killing blow but is surprised when he stumbles and misses. "What dragon voice say? I invisible? Help me I can't move!"
Fezzik has some hope as his companions continue to attack including Deko but it fades when Deko is struck down again. His frustration continues to grow as he still can't move.
Bataleigha Silvercrest |
Bataleigha, her eyes darkened, her hope all but gone, opts to try to belt the priest's bodyguard while she knows (roughly) where he is. When Deko's punch connects and the warrior grunts in pain, Bat sweeps her mace in that direction, trusting in divine guidance from Pelor to help it hit its mark.
Miss Chance 50%: 1d100 ⇒ 48
heavy mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 for bludgeoning damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Whiffzilla!
DM Jesse Heinig |
Fezzik's frustration grows and grows and then POP! the spell ends.
This was the last round of the spell, so Fezzik will be able to act again next round.
Zinnath the Scary |
My first level spells are gone, my energy bolts are gone. I'm nown to spamming acid splash...
Zinnath fires his spell at the evil priest...
Acid Splash To Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 vs touch
Acid Splash Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3 acid or cold damage
DM Jesse Heinig |
Zinnath's bolt of whatever hits the priest, but proves to be little more than an annoyance.
Kyrie!
Kyrie, the Remorseless |
Zinnath, are you still able to hide to get your back-stab damage with the acid splashes?
Kyrie pumps her fist a little as her last true missile is enough to slay the guard and save the now-invisible ogre for the time being.
Alas, she feels her own power draining as she directs her fire at the overly active bodyguard, trying to whittle him down and hoping that a miracle happens.
Bodyguard Force Missile damage!: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
DM Jesse Heinig |
Kyrie's bolt makes a loud SPAANGGG sound as it impacts the guard's armor, and he grunts but doesn't move.
Enoby starts up her eerie song again in an attempt to aid the group in even the smallest possible way. Inspire courage.
The guard stabs at Bat with his longsword...
Longsword attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Longsword damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
...and manages to wedge the blade in between her pauldron and breastplate, just below the armpit.
The priest steps behind his bodyguard by the corner and brings his mace down on helpless Deko.
Mace attack vs. helpless opponent: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 (includes -4 for the corner, +4 for Deko being helpless; Deko's effective AC worsened by having a Dex of 0)
Mace damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
He crushes Deko's skull, and though the half-orc doesn't keep anything useful there, this nonetheless kills him.
PARTY UP! Deko has died.
Bataleigha Silvercrest |
Bataleigha knows this is a fight she can't win...but maybe Fezzik can yet turn the tide. Not knowing that it's already too late for Deko, she again channels positive energy, even though it'll also help their enemies a bit.
Stabilize Deko, heal Fezzik, heal yourself...then try to hold out long enough for Fezzik to kick some serious butt! she thinks to herself. Then she again remembers that Zinnath can hear her thoughts if she projects them.
[Mentally to Zinnath] I can't fight while blinded. I'll try to shield Fezzik and the others as long as I'm able.

Zinnath the Scary |
"So, bad news, it appears Deko is dead. The others are still fighting though. Well, not Fezik yet, but hopefully soon. Of course, he is invisible, so who knows. I am going to try and hide, and get back to sneak attacking."
Zinnath hides...
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
Kyrie, the Remorseless |
Holy crap he's +11 to attack???!?!? Also, Q: Can you hide behind an invisible Orge? Zinnath: Yes.
Kyrie sobs as Deko breathes his last, but puts the emotions to the side as she continues to pour fire into the bodyguard!
Force Missile Damage!: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Fezzik Faststrike |
"NO!" Fezzik screams as he is able to move again. Still blocked by Bat, he swings at the cleric clumbsily.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 - 4 + 1 = 5
Damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4, 4) + 4 = 14
DM Jesse Heinig |
Fighter levels, high Strength, weapon focus, etc. Wrecking people with a sword is kinda what he does. Also Deko was helpless and Bat is blind - bad news in both cases.
Kyrie's bolt KAPWINGS on the bodyguard's armor again and he grunts, but it barely scratches him as Bat's healing power rejuvenates him.
Enoby continues her eerie drow song, moves up behind Bat, knocks an arrow, and fires at the bodyguard.
Enoby: Shortbow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
...but her arrow goes wide and misses.
Fezzik weapon roars over the guard's head - returning to action has apparently left him stumbling a bit. He reappears from the vanish spell, which affords Zinnath a chance to hide.
The bodyguard calmly rounds on Bat and says, "You're next, blind lady."
Longsword attack vs. Bat: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Longsword damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
His sword crashes against her armor with incredible force and the chisel-edged blade smashes through!
The evil priest steps past the bodyguard...
Fezzik: AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
...blocks Fezzik's pole arm, and attacks Enoby with his mace.
No AoO from Bat as she's blind, from Enoby as she's using a missile weapon, or from Deko since he's dead.
Evil priest: Mace attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
The dark elf manages to dance out of the way, thankfully.
PARTY UP!
Fezzik Faststrike |
Concerned that the battle is not going well, Fezzik takes a swing at the bodyguard.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 - 4 + 1 = 20
Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6, 5, 1) + 4 + 1 = 17
Bataleigha Silvercrest |
Bataleigha's eyes roll back in her head as the force of the latest blow proves more than she can take. She collapses in a clanking heap.
Con Check to Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
On the positive side, she's no longer in Fezzik's way....
Fezzik Faststrike |
Bataleigha's eyes roll back in her head as the force of the latest blow proves more than she can take. She collapses in a clanking heap.
[dice=Con Check to Stabilize]1d20+1
On the positive side, she's no longer in Fezzik's way....
If that's the case my attack roll should be 24. If that doesn't hit, we're done for.
DM Jesse Heinig |
As Bat collapses, Fezzik roars and his heavy blade smashes into the bodyguard, battering aside his guard and slamming through his armor in his abdomen. The blade shears through the metal and blood spurts from the guard's waist as he is bodily shoved two feet to the side and then deposited in a crumpled heap.
...which leaves the cleric alone and cornered, but ready to bash in Bat's head with his mace.
Kyrie and Zinnath!
Zinnath the Scary |
Zinnath will fire an acid orb at the cleric!
Acid Splash To Hit: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 1 = 12 vs touch and flatfooted
Acid Splash Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (5) = 7 acid or cold damage
And re-stealth...
Stealth: 1d20 + 20 - 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 - 20 = 19
Kyrie, the Remorseless |
"NO!" shouts Kyrie as she...
...charges forward!
Running full-tilt, she CRASHES headlong into...
...Bataleigha!
Bull RUSH!: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 1 = 11
She pushes the incapacitated cleric into the square next to Deko's corpse, moving her out of the way of harm...but opening herself up to the attack!
DM Jesse Heinig |
Kyrie knocks Bat away from the front line, as Enoby withdraws behind Fezzik and Zinnath. Withdraw to avoid taking AoO.
The cleric shrugs and swings his mace at Kyrie instead.
Evil priest: Mace attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Evil priest: Mace damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"It seems that my god is with me, and yours is not," he sneers.
As Zinnath blasts him with another icy strike, he actually gives off an Evil Laugh (TM).
PARTY UP!
Fezzik Faststrike |
Fezzik gives an satisfied look at the fallen body of the bodyguard and turns his attention to the cleric. He seems surprised when Kyrie comes running in front of him. "Move out of way before you get killed," he says before taking a swing at the cleric.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 1 = 13
Damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) + 4 = 8
DM Jesse Heinig |
Fezzik's hurried swing glances off the cleric's shield.
Kyrie, the Remorseless |
Kyrie doubles over in unfamiliar pain as the cleric's wicked mace knocks the wind from her. Then Fezzik's shout brings her back to reality and, not needing to be told twice, she skeedaddles well out of the combat zone.
Withdraw action.
DM Jesse Heinig |
Zinnath?
Enoby continues her strange song and fires another arrow.
Enoby: Shortbow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
This arrow bounces off the far wall next to Fezzik and careens off into the room, skipping off the stones.
Evil priest will go after Zinnath!
Zinnath the Scary |
Zinnath?
Evil priest will go after Zinnath!
Yes? My attack was posted in the Discussion forum. It should hit, just not have the sneak damage on it.
DM Jesse Heinig |
Aaand board ate my post.
The evil priest steps in close (5' step) and shifts his guard to attack Fezzik. "You have a mighty swing, my large foe, but let's see if you can withstand a veteran."
Evil priest: Heavy mace attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Evil priest: Heavy mace damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Since Bat is blind, she doesn't threaten the priest and thus no flanking bonus for Fezzik.
Party up!
Fezzik Faststrike |
Fezzik grimaces at the priest's mace smashes into his arm but he is relieved his attention is away from the weaker of the group. "Back up, Enoby, " he says as he mimics the priest's step with his own before swinging his great sword.
I'm assuming others will move back to allow me to take a 5' step back.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14 and the rng still hates me.
Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) + 4 + 1 = 13
DM Jesse Heinig |
Zinnath continues harrying the evil priest, while Fezzik backs up but still can't land a finishing strike. Enoby steps back in tandem with Fezzik.
Kyrie?
Kyrie, the Remorseless |
sorry, sorry. Plum thought I posted this. But then I didn't. =p Ummmmm, of note, I think Bats does still threaten the space, and thus get an AoO. Blind is just a negative penalty to a melee attack, but does not preclude it. Since you threaten any square that you "can" attack in to, I think she gets her roll. IMHO.
Kyrie keeps up her withering fire into the back of the cleric, praying that the ogre can end this fight quickly.
Force Missile!: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 W00t!
DM Jesse Heinig |
Ummmmm, of note, I think Bats does still threaten the space, and thus get an AoO. Blind is just a negative penalty to a melee attack, but does not preclude it. Since you threaten any square that you "can" attack in to, I think she gets her roll. IMHO.
Even if Bat wasn't flat on her back, "You can’t execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies." When you're blind, everyone has total concealment against you.
Enoby draws back her bow and fires as Fezzik pushes backward.
Enoby: Shortbow attack w/inspire courage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Enoby: Shortbow damage w/inspire courage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The continued battering of Enoby's arrows, Zinnath's magic and Kyrie's bolts seems to be taking its toll, as the priest gets a split lip and a black eye and he seems to be slowing. He scowls, steps up, and swings again at Fezzik.
Evil priest: Heavy mace attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Evil priest: Heavy mace damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Fezzik scowls at the priest as his mace smashes into his leg as he backs up and takes another swing. His frustration continues to grow as he can't hit!
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12 @^#$%&#&%!
Damage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 4 + 1 = 15 gotta love my damage being higher than my attack roll
