With a shrieking war cry and axes drawn, the bugbear berserkers race down the street and begin climbing up the barricade.

As the berserkers fly by in a rage, the hobgoblins follow closely behind charging in as well.


Dungeon Master

Round 5

• Mantooth fires off a crossbow bolt and hits the hobgoblin squarely in the chest! He is badly wounded, but still remains alive.
• Tirion calls out to the other defenders to fall back and let the enemy climb the barricade.
• Brindol Guard. One guard climbs the barricade and fires off a shot that misses.
• Bofus flies to the roof again and fires a shot at S28. The arrow is small but deadly and the hobgoblin crumbles to the ground dead.
• Thordak fires off two quick shots at the charging Berserker and hits it twice. However, it seems to do little to slow down the beserking humanoid.
• Red climbs up the barricade and up onto the roof of the adjacent building (J30).
• Poppy follows Red a short ways behind him.
• Bugbear Berserkers charge up to the barricade with axes drawn!
• Hobgoblin move in behind the bugbears.

The thief shoots 2 more arrows (first targetting T26, then the other if the first falls on the first shot--not very likely, I know), then keeps low, hoping for more sniping action.

I don't really know how "sniping" works--hiding after shooting. In this specific case, I could probably move via flight to a different part of the roof, since they can't see through the building, and find a new place to shoot from if/when I'm detected. DMHW, how should we handle this?

Seeing the bugbears moving toward the wall, Tirion attempts to slow them down. He raises his hands and calls out in the hissing tongue that is that of dragons.

CMD to break free is 23. Area of effect is considered difficult terrain. Moving through the area of effect will provoke move grapple/damage attacks at the above Grapple I believe.


Dungeon Master

Tirion, the only problem that I am having with this situation is that your character cannot see the bugbears. He has no line of sight from his position. He is not on a roof nor is he even on the barricade.

Bofus, after you make your shot, simply move out of view and make a stealth check.

If I cannot see over the wall, then I will climb up the barricade so that I am next to Mantooth - squeezing into the same square. And then cast the spell.

I assume that this is moving across difficult or very difficult terrain, but either way, it is only 5', so I should be able to get there with a move action. I should know where they are via the Message spell that is usually in effect.

Mantooth tosses the crossbow aside and pulls out Magnimarana and his shield. "Now prepare to see some real action, my bearded friend!"

Mantooth moves down from the barricade, around Thordak and back up to position himself at I27 with his shield drawn and sword held ready to attack.

This should make room for Tirion and put Mantooth in a better position to fight.

The bugbears are suddenly grappled by tentacles coming out from the ground. Immediately, they begin to try and break free (standard actions).

Nope, but I can trip them. Not sure whether someone can be tripped and grappled at the same time, although I am pretty sure you can, but it should make it hard for them to move.

Round 8

• Mantooth drives Magnimarana into the bugbear berserker and strikes the first one down.
• Tirion takes a 5 foot step to H26 and casts Magic Missile on J25. (Tirion, you can see any bugbear who starts climbing onto the barricade.)
• Brindol Guard attacks and hits J25
• Bofus sneaks along the roof to O23.
• Thordak drives his axe into the bugbear and severs him in two!
• Red takes aim with his bow, but releases the arrow prematurely and clearly misses. Next he begins inspiring his allies with a song. (All gain +2 to hit and damage)
• Poppy fires at S25 and hits her mark, showing Red how it is done.
• Bugbear Berserkers slowly advance forward, one delivering a deadly attack on Thordak.
• Hobgoblins. One unsuccessfully tries to break the grip of a black tentacles while another fires off a shot from his longbow but misses.
