Fantastic! The gang is all here!

Strategies anyone?

Looks like we have solid skill coverage with this group and great perceptions as well(Kivuli and Ranalus are fantastic!).

I am more than happy to take a cautious manner in a game, but with the time based nature of specials I will often take a more active stance on things, and if the last special is any indication, that proved beneficial. We really kept up a quick pace there.

As for combat, I am more of a melee character, but my staff of entwined serpents lets me do some minor ranged damage when it's called for.

I will try and stay out of the way of any ranged characters, but my main focus will be to engage a target and keep casters/healers and ranged characters free to do what they do best. I flurry with my staff most of the time in two hands for extra damage, but I can use it in one hand and cast with the other for spell combat. I often start a combat with my wand of shield in one hand, activate the magic and then move in, if I don't expect to use my spell combat right away.

One of the things that happened in my last game that I think I should bring up is related to combat. I am a big fan of focused fire. By that I mean having the majority of characters focus their efforts to bring down a single target as opposed to spreading their efforts among multiple targets. This was only the best case in a few combats in my last game, and many were just fine with a spread of attacks, but I think we should all be ready to switch to focus fire when it is called for.

All that said, I am really looking forward to this game with you all!

Ranalus is mostly a scout, healer, and support caster. He isn't particularly optimized, but his Door Sight ability can be very useful. I'm also willing to pick up scrolls to use and will take suggestions. In combat, he's a switch-hitter.

I do have some purchases to do before the scenario starts.

Our ACs look pretty low (even with Shield, Crios is not hitting 20+level), so I may prep some Shield of Faith (+3) spells to help our martials.

Generally I agree on focusing fire, although there are some times when it is not the best choice. Situational awareness, understanding enemy tactics, and countering them.

Kuriq plays range support, attempting to be a pocket of tricks like the green arrow. So he is not high on damage output.

Agreed that the nature of specials pushes us to hurry. With that in mind, we will probably have to be less focused on the stealth. I will try to get into flank with Crios and/or Anduris and provide clear avenues for ranged.

Hey Gang -- checking in, still in recovery mode from GENCON but I'll be ready to roll on Friday. I tend to post early in the morning US Eastern Time (like between 5-8am), then depending on what's going on throughout the day. If it hits around 10 pm EST you are not likely to hear from me until the next morning.

I think you'll find I keep a pretty fast pace, with an occasional slow day. If you are going to be gone or extra busy for a period of time, just drop a note here with any botting instructions.

Also, if you think I got something wrong just let me know, I'll be glad to revisit things. I make mistakes every game, and don't mind getting it right if I do.

I love the pregame discussion...this is going to be fun!

If you would like to know the status of our special as a whole, there is a tracker here. Other than the active/inactive markers, it self-updates every time the document is loaded, so the information is always current and accurate.

Reaching one of the milestones in an active row will trigger some sort of event for all the tables.

@Kuriq - unfortunate, also unlike other modifiers to damage, additional dice of damage are not multiplied when the attacker scores a critical hit. So you would not roll the extra fire dice for a crit.

I have a feeling I should know that rule but It's totally out of my mind. I had to re-read to confirm the understanding of the extra dice damage. Thanks GM for pointing it out!

If possible, could Reavis be moved up closer to the middle in the party order? His bombs only have a 20' range, which is a lot less than those who use bows primarily and he currently has the best AC. I haven't taken the time to look at each other character's build individually, so if keeping him in back is still for the best overall for everyone else then I withdraw my request.

We should get a plan set up. Talked a bit with Anduris already. I'll be AFK for a few hours, but we can get started.

1)This looks to be another unusual battlefield.

2)I have another minute of flight left and can carry people into positions, two at a time though I will fly slower, if anyone likes that idea.

3)Anduris can give Bane to a few more people's weapons. I suggested ranged first, if you can fire from here until I can move you (if you want to be moved).

We have been a fairly effective group so far, so lets keep that up.

Knowledge rolls will hopefully give us some good info on what we are up against and how it influences our tactics.

If we didn't transfer it, now would be a good time to use the aid token. My vote is for Timely Inspiration for a +2 Inspire Courage for 3 rounds, while I'm also cool with Allied Offensive, which gives us all flanking and +2d8 damage for 1 round.

If we're able to get shots from where we are I'll just provide range support throughout. But if those trees are blocking I'll have to get closer. But since I'm not melee I can make my own way. I think the melee folks should get unity line first.

I thought we passed the token, but if we still have it then by all means, let's use it! Timely Inspiration works for me with the way we have been rolling. I am usually up for the burst of damage but I would rather have 3 rounds of the buff than 1.

Maps and Handout

First off sorry couldn't update earlier

@Kivuli - went back and reread your post and then re-positioned you based on what you said. You likely would have attacked blue from there I'm guessing; it would have step up and attacked you still critting, orange would have joined (maybe see below) and would not have flanked and would still have missed. Does this seem fair? Also the Skel Champs do not do negative energy damage...however the fallen does and the circle does. That said I went back and reread and realized the negative energy is suppose to also be healing the undead too.

@all - getting the positioning right, means orange would now be behind cover, so that messes things up. Since he missed Kivuli anyway, I think it would be fair to say he moved to the middle to defend instead of attacking Kivuli last round opening himself up to Reavis, Kuriq, and Ranalus's ranged attacks.

All this seems fair to me, if you are very upset by it let me know and we can consider retconing the whole turn. Which I don't like but am willing to if everyone thinks that is correct to do.

Dark Archive

Aasimar Staff Magus/Monk/Occultist 7: HP: 51/51 DR 5/blunt | AC 23(24),16T,18(19)FF, CMD:24 | Fort:+10*(15vs poison/disease) Ref:+8 Will:+8 | Init:+7, Perception:+11 | Arcane Pool: 4/7 |Mental Focus 5/6 |Condition:| Effects: Resist Energy 5 vs Acid/Cold/Electricity(Celestial), defending bone, barkskin,mage armor,antitoxin, antiplague

I don't think Kivuli, or anyone for that matter, is really upset at all, despite Kiv's post saying he wasn't happy. I think he just didn't like being flanked, and really, who would, lol.

This has been a great run, full of interesting challenges and to be honest, I think you've done a great job in keeping pace, running complex encounters, as well as understanding what players would do once certain things change on the field. Some GMs don't allow redirects in pbp, even though if a person was at an in person game they would know when an enemy has gone down or some action would no longer apply.

I understood everything you have posted so far, following the descriptions easily and get where things are and what they are doing(with the minor exception of a certain flying undead, lol, and that was all me missing a post). I think that's the case for most, if not all, of us, so don't worry there.

Just keep on doing what you've been doing. I hope you have been enjoying the game as much as we have. I know it can be stressful as a GM. Just know, I'm having a blast with this game and I'm grateful for everyone on this team.

I couldn't have picked a better group for this, and I feel fortunate for the whole experience.

Yes I've been enjoying it very much as well. As you mentioned there have been a few stressful moments, mostly when real life intersected and in a non-special I just would have had a slow day...but tried not to do that in a special environment. But it's all good.

The entire weapon blanch line seems tailor made for ranged characters, what with the one and done usability. Prep 10 arrows for just about any kind of DR and they last till used. Don't be fooled about the adamantine blanch though, as it covers DR but not Hardness, and I know a few people that were caught surprised with that.

BTW, if we can somehow work this group into another game after the special, I would be down for that. When I find something that works, I like to keep it. ;)
