Ayrphish |
Kwiz, your character is a hoot :)
Patel rushes ahead of you, brandishing a weapon on the charge. The villagers seem to pay you no mind as you approach and plead innocence. The whole scene seems very out of place and confusing. To make things even more bewildering, the villagers start stabbing at the sky with their weapons, and Patel starts to do the same thing!
Suddenly, a very thin, almost invisible disk of a creature swoops down out of the sky diving at Kwiz'mie.
Kwiz, make a defense roll, everyone else roll for initiative
A quick look around puts the pieces together, these mysterious creatures are the Pallones that Patel warned you about!
Larsis |
Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Trained in all defensive skills. Larsis dives at Kwiz hopefully knocking Kwiz out of the reach of that strange creature, Larsis tries his best to physically put himself between the creatures attack and that silly Kwiz hes been trying to figure out.
Not familiar enough with rules as to what I would need to roll to accomplish this task, but I am his body guard, it is my duty.
Sal Arch |
Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Sal is at first surprised and confused: What are they all stabbing at? and then she sees those strange flat discs in the air. She looks around trying to discern how much creatures are attacking.
Laris D'Vagne |
Are they hovering out of reach and just swooping down to attack?
Laris will draw her sword and try to strike at any that come close enough.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 17
4 Damage
Jake Dash |
Round 1, Retaliation Nodule Activated (1 pt of Dam automatically inflicted if hit), Back-To-back (+1 Speed Defense), Thrust on each Att (-2 Might)
Jake moves quickliy to a back-to-back position with Laris while pressing the button to activate the cypher on his armor and drawing his Rapier and Dagger for attacks with two mighty thrusts.
Rapier Att: 1d20 ⇒ 9
dagger Att: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Rapier Dam: 3
Dagger Dam: 3
[ooc]Total Dam: 6[/dice]
Ayrphish |
Kwiz manages to jump out of the way as the surprise of these odd creatures starts to sink in.
Ok going before the Pallones are:
Jake
Then the Pallones, then everyone else.
There are currently 6 pallones floating in the sky.
Jake manages to get a solid hit on one of the pallones, earning some cheers from the villagers who are stabbing at the beasts with their rather primitive weapons.
A couple of the pallones keep their attention on their original targets, a few others move over a bigger threat, a new arrival to the scene, YOU.
One swoops down towards Jake, another towards Voss, and a final one at Larsis. They are low enough that you are able to make counter attacks.
Sal Arch |
Sal fiddles somewhat on her strange looking wristband and then aims at a group of Pallones with it, a small projectile flying into the cluster.
attacking with her detonator device: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Sal uses one level of effort to increase her chance to hit for one step. Additionally I think her Numenera skill shift the difficulty further down.
All targets in an intermediate area suffer 8 points corrosive damge and are blinded for one round. The next round 1d6 ⇒ 5 additional explosives fly in random directions, dealing an additional 8 damage each
Voss Nerik |
Voss' staff-sword comes off of his shoulder in a blur, intercepting the movement of the pallone threatening him.
attack 1d20 ⇒ 19
Damage 6 + 2 = 8
Dont have my book with me,so correct damage if needed.
Laris D'Vagne |
If the GM is nowhere to be found I might take this one over, if people are still interested?
I've been intrigued by Numenera and it seems a shame to let it die on here.
Give it until the end of the week and if there's no response from Ayrphish I'll give it a try.
spinningdice |
Okay, this is Laris, since we've still had no response and it appears Ayrphish has made no posts, I've sent a request to adopt the game. Please bear with me, as I've not even played Numenera before this never mind run it, so do call me on anything I do wrong.
It's been a bit of a rough weekend so I'll try and get up to speed and make some progress this week. I'll probably leave Laris in play, as it makes no sense for her to just vanish, but she'll not take an active role in suggesting plans unless you appear to be floundering or I feel the need to push things forwards.
Jake Dash |
I commend you on the adoption, and I will assist you in any way that I can. My RL tabletop group has been playing Numenera for about 5 weeks now, and the most important advice that I can offer is that it requires a great deal of DM interraction to drive the plotline due to the importance of roleplaying and the ease of mechanics with the system. Good luck, and I look forward to continuing.
Larsis |
I havnt even looked through the books recently, I will brush up on things myself. ive never played this before, my brother did show the game to me but we never even made characters. Thank you spinnindice for picking things up, I had been enjoying myself here with all of you.

Jake
Pallones
Voss's staff-sword impales the Pallone as it swoops down
Kwiz
Larsis' attack goes wild
Bobby's blow is solid, and the creature lets out a shrill humming sound, which you can only imagine is how it screams.
Laris Lashes out with her blade at the one attacking Jake, wounding it further.
Sal Are you attacking Pallones attacking your group left (there are 3 remaining, all injured), or targeting the other group (2) which the villages are trying to fight off?
Should be Jake up next, and confirmation of what Sal's aiming at.
Sorry, there's a lot things to get my head around, hopefully things will smooth out as I get used to it
Jake Dash |
1 Might spent for Thrust, 1 Edge and 2 Speed (Effort) Spent to lower ATT by one step; ATT lowered 1 more step by using two light weapons.
Jake attacks with both light weapons at the same time.
Rapier: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Dagger: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Rapier Dam = 3+2 = 5
Dagger Dam = 3
spinningdice |
Sal's detonator causes an explosion in the midst of the other group of Pallones, and burns them away, the villages let out a cheer.
Jake brings down the one trying to saw at him with his Rapier, and then wounds another with his dagger.
The last two remaining pull away into the sky out of reach of your (melee) weapons.
Everyone gets an action now before the Pallones turn comes around again (it's not entirely clear whether they are retreating or regrouping).
Larsis |
Larsis activates and throws his Detonation Cypher up at the Pallones. Spending 9 Effort of Speed. -3 Difficulity steps Speed: 1d20 + 3 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 3 + 3 = 14 dealing Effect: 1d100 ⇒ 47 Heat Drain (Cold based Damage Effect)level: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Speed Pool: 14(1edge)-2-2-2-1-1-1
larsis puts everything he can think of into tossing the cypher to hit as many of the remaining Pallones as he can, either to kill or drive them off.
Jake Dash |
Rule Note: Larsis, using Effort to reduce the DC by steps is not added to your d20 roll. The GM simply presents a lower DC for your straight d20 roll without bonuses. Also, you only have an Effort of 1. That means that you can only expend 1 Effort on an action, not 3. So, the result would be a DC lowered one step, and with your Edge of 1, you would expend 2 points from your Speed pool.
Larsis |
Interesting, reference from which Book?. I didn't read anywhere in Edge rule that Edge limited how much Effort you can expand (simply that it reduced the cost by 1 per Edge you have. I also read in the main rule book that the first effort you spend adds 3 points to the roll, additional effort reduces the DC by a step or adding to the stat rolls.
Jake Dash |
You are correct in your analysis regarding expending multiple Efforts, but as a First Tier Character, you only have 1 Effort, or maybe 2, if you have taken that as one of your four tier advancement bonuses early in the tier progression.(However, we have not received 4 XP yet to enable our characters to have done so.) The number of Efforts that you can use per action is limited by the number that you possess based upon your tier. Edge can be useed to lessen the amount of your pool cost when expending Effort, and that can be done multiple times based on the number of Efforts used, like at higher tiers when you have more than 1. If it does not say that in the Using Effort section, then I am certain that it does in the character creation sections. I will point you to a particular page whan I get home this evening from work and have the rules in front of me.
spinningdice |
Re-reading p22 it looks like Jake is correct:
Every character has an Effort score, which
indicates the maximum number of levels of Effort
that can be applied to a roll. A beginning (firsttier)
character has an Effort of 1, meaning you
can apply only one level of Effort to a roll. A more
experienced character has a higher Effort score and
can apply more levels of Effort to a roll. For example,
a character who has an Effort of 3 can apply up to
three levels of Effort to reduce a task’s difficulty.
Regardless Larsis' Detonation Cypher downs the remaining Pallones, which drop to the floor, their reflective surfaces encrusted with ice.
As they do so the villagers approach.
"Come, come a feast for the heroes."
Jake Dash |
That was the site I was going to provide. Thanks!
Jake moves towards the villagers.
Indeed we will join you. We could use the rest and respite. Well done Larsis!
Sal Arch |
Sal relaxes as she sees the last pallones drop to the floor and sheathes her dagger, happy that she didn't need to get into close combat with these creatures.
"No need to call us heroes. We were glad to be able to provide some help. Say, do these creatures attack you more often? Does anyone know why?"
While she speaks, she checks her wristband, her face becoming a bit disappointed as she realizes that it really was good for only one use. She shrugs and puts it into her back pack.
