Herral jumps at the sudden action. He leaves the trap and steps to the fallen hobgoblin, swinging his spiked mace at its head.

Morningstar: 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 1 + 4 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3

If the humanoid attempts to stand then he swings at him again.

Morningstar: 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Herral is too far to do that, so I had him retreat. .

Herral retreats from the crow to move to Soroza's side. The crow beside him takes flight, and circles around to attack Adrac, who dodges it as he moves by. The hobgoblin stands up, and moves to run away.

Analyzing the situation, Anthony glances at the two crows, then the hobgoblin, then Soroza and Herral. The two of them might be able to chase them down themselves. Right now his other two companions were fighting a dangerous battle. Those crows were dog-sized and could easily slay a full grown man. Deciding to even the odds rather than run down the goblinoid, Anthony circles around the bird that Adrac is fighting, and leaps at it with his rapier, charging it with Arcane energy as he strikes.

Swift Action: Arcane Pool enhancement
Move around the bird, avoiding AoO.
Standard Action: Attack

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Anthony jabs forward, but the crow dodges it.

Soroza is up.

"Herral! I'm going to run ahead and get in front of him! You come up on him from behind!"

Soroza takes off at a hustle, passing and then circling around some feet ahead of the hobgoblin.

"Uh-uh. Not this way. Do yourself a favor and surrender, perhaps you'll live to see tomorrow."

Soroza double move to come around in front of the hobgoblin, plus a couple free actions to speak. Trying to move the battle map tokens on my phone is proving fruitless, so for point of reference I'm moving directly in front of the hobgoblin, based on the direction he is moving away from us, and ending my movement with a five-foot space between myself and the hobgoblin.

The hobgoblin sneers, glancing around furtively. "I've gotten away from scarier things than you, sweetcheeks," he snarls, his voice deep and rough, but slightly distorted by his deformity.

The crow attacks Davi, but Davi swats it away with a flick of her rapier.

Crow 2 vs davi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Davi is up.

It's been 24 hrs so I'm botting Davi.

Davi stays focused on the crow before her, her rapier whizzing through the air before landing in the bird with a satisfying smack.

Davi rapier vs crow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Herral steps up opposite to Davi and attacks the nearest crow, swinging his morningstar with full force.

Morningstar: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 2 = 8

..but with a squawk and a beat of its wings, the crow bobs away to safety.

The crow swipes at Adrac, slashing at his shoulder with lightning speed.

2 damage to Adrac.

Adrac is up.

Male Human Wizard (Sword Binder) 1 | HP 10/10 | AC 13 Touch 13 FF 10| Fort +2 ,Ref +3, Will +3 | Perception +6 | Init +3

Adrac grunts as the crow slashes at his cheek, but ignores it, rushing on ahead to aid Soroza. "Anthony! Deal with the bird. Now!"[b] he ordered, moving ahead with remarkable speed.

Stopping just shy of the hobgoblin being a threat to him, he stood up, arms folding over his chest instead of behind his back. His expression was stern, but looked as if it was restraining something more behind it. [b]"The same cannot be said for me." he stated, his tone barely level as he spoke. Not from being out of breath, but from clear and evident anger. The kindly old man from before was nowhere to be seen, replacing by a figure of truly ferocious disposition that no amount of age could restrain.

"I am giving you. One. Single. Chance. To stand down and turn yourself in. You are standing between an old man and his granddaughter - I can promise you've encountered nothing more terrifying than that."

5 foot step away from the crow, then another double move to get within range of the hobgob.

The hobgoblin sneers and makes a run for it!

No AoO. Running 4x speed. Next round, a character (except for Herral, who is too slow) may decide to give chase, and we'll cut into a chase scene. Otherwise he will get away without a trained tracker hunting him down.

Round 3

Anthony is up.

Male Tiefling Magus (Fiend Flayer) 1 HP 7/9; AC 19, T 14, FF 15, hp 9, Fort +2, Ref +4, Will +2; Resist Fire 5, Perception +5, AP 0/5

You can't actually 5-foot step and then move. The withdraw maneuver does the same thing for this purpose, but that's a full round action (i.e. you can't 5-foot, move, and attack in the same round)

Anthony glances at Adrac as he gives chase to the hobgoblin, then returns his attention to the Crow. He calculates its movements quickly and delivers his next attack.

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Rapier Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Gore Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10
Gore Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

This is true :). But since a withdraw maneuver is equivalent in this case, I just assumed that's what he wanted to do :P

Anthony confidently attacks the crow, but as he moves in for the kill, he slips and is caught off balance.

Soroza is up.

Soroza rolls her eyes in derision. Then she cracks her neck, shakes some limberness into her limbs, and takes off at a full-tilt run after the hobgoblin.

"They always choose the hard way," she mutters under her breath.

The hobgoblin is 60' ahead of you. He heads into thick underbrush to try and slow you down.

Soroza and Davi (plus Adrac if he opts to) can attempt a DC 15 acrobatics check to simply leap over the bramble, slice through the bramble with an attack with a slashing weapon against AC 15, or spot a nearby clear path with a DC 15 perception check.

You can attempt as many skill checks as you want, but failure at one check results in you falling behind. Success at two checks results in you catching up.

You can also stop and attempt to target him with a ranged attack or spell but you will fall behind unless his movement is stopped.

The crow close Davi lunges at her as it slowly bleeds out, but she is too fast for it. It collapses onto the ground.

Davi takes off after the hobgoblin. Thick brambles bar her path. In a split second decision she decides to leap over them. She can make that jump, no she will make that jump, that jump has nothing on her...

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 + Derring-Do: 1d6 ⇒ 1 = 13

....except for being wider than she expected. Davi lands in the brambles and thrashes about as she tries to get free, cursing up a storm as the prickly vegetation catches on her and her clothes. She looks for a quick way out.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

There's no way out. Davi watches the hobgoblin disappear off into the distance.

Adrac is up. You still have the option to give chase to the hobgoblin if desired.

Soroza decides to play it safe at first and worry about keeping pace with the hobgoblin rather than catching up.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

She sails over the brambles with a well-timed leap, but sees Davi go down into the thicket next to her.

"Keep still, you frickin' targit!"

Combat: Anthony is up

Meanwhile...

Soroza can hear Adrac calling after her, but before her, the hobgoblin rushes along the banks of the river. The path before him is blocked with enormous, slick boulders! Faced with either being cornered between Soroza and the rocks, he attempts to clamber over them, awkwardly, losing valuable time. He starts moving across the rocks.

hobgoblin climb: 1d20 ⇒ 4
hobgoblin acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Soroza is confronted with the boulders. She can attempt any number of the following checks: DC 12 Climb, DC 12 Acrobatics, DC 12 Escape Artist (squeeze between rocks instead of climbing them)

Failure at any one check results in the hobgoblin recovering from his blunder and keeping his distance between him and Soroza.

Success at one check and Soroza catches up to him while he clumsily maneuvers over the boulders.

Sure, she can come up to where they are, but she needs to succeed at 2 checks to fully catch up and corner the hobgoblin the way Soroza can. Success at only 1 check alone and you just catch up enough to keep the chase going. 1 Failure and you fall behind :(

Soroza hears Adrac, but is too wrapped up in the thrill of the chase. Fueled by Davi's declaration that the hobgoblin has been killing and eating people, a tiny spark of fury was welling up in the pit of her stomach.

Seeing the creature fumble over the boulders, Soroza makes her move as she reaches them. She clambers up the first boulder...

Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

...Then attempts to launch herself past the hobgoblin's position...

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

...And lands in front of the creature.

Turning towards him and brandishing her whip, she makes a derisive sneer: "Shouldn't a real hunter know when he's outrun?"

"Sweetcheeks got me good." the hobgoblin chuckles, his voice a low growl. He raises his arms, though he is still armed with a longsword at his side. "Well, before I die, at least tell me one thing: Who sent you?"

Confident in his rhythm, Anthony patiently waits for the bird to give him an opening. He doesn't even seen particularly concerned with his missing companions. He's entirely focused on his fight, remaining in a relaxed posture as he tries again to land a strike on the crow.

rapier attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Soroza's cocky sense of victory cracks, and tiny sprouts of confusion begin to grow through.

"Sent us? No one sent us. What are you talking about? We're out here for our own reasons. You ambushed us."

For the record, Soroza's ready to make a trip attempt against the hobgoblin if he attempts to flee again.

The razorcrow slowly expires as a single, devastating thrust from Anthony's rapier finds its mark. The firefoot fox lays whimpering off close to the river, still caught in the trap.

Combat ends. Crows KO'd.

The hobgoblin scoffs, and draws his longsword.

Round 1
1. Soroza
2. Hobgoblin
3. Davi

Soroza is up.

Davi: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

If Davi can pass her skill challenge to get here quickly (resolve at least one DC 12 climb/acrobatics/escape artist) - she can take an action this round. Otherwise she will arrive on the second round.

Davi and Soroza are roughly 500' away from the rest of the group.

Adrac frowns sternly after Davi and Soroza as they disregard his advice. He turned back to Anthony and sighed. "And I thought Amari was stubborn... Anthony, when you settle down, find a lady who will heed you once in a while, hrm? Try to continue on, if you can. I should retrieve our lady friends before the forest takes them as well."

Without even waiting for a reply, Adrac was off... and boy, could the old guy move! Squinting at the bramble, he took a flying leap, aiming for the trunk of a nearby tree and attempting to leap off of it. And upon reaching the rocks, finally took his hands out from behind his back and used them to scale up the massive boulder. Every minute we waste here is a another minute Cassia loses of her life. I have to end this. NOW!

I'm not clear on where precisely on the boulders I am located compared to Mr. Hobgoblin. The pertinence of this being: do I have higher ground? If so, we can just post-hoc add that into my roll below!

Soroza takes a tactical step backwards before unleashes her whip with a flick of her wrist, attempting to relieve the hobgoblin of his longsword;

Disarm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

5-foot step directly away from the hobgoblin. Standard action to disarm.

Obviously you are on higher ground, Soroza would have chosen to land in a higher spot from him to be dramatic. ;)

Almost with impossible grace and speed, Adrac slings through the trees and up over the boulder. Vaulting over the top, Adrac lands deftly, hurrying up to the river banks with the hobgoblin in his sights.

Sadly, he could feel his age starting to catch up with him. Were he 30 years younger? 20? Heck, even 10, this would not be as much of an issue. But as he panted, he could feel himself start to slow down a little. Even so, he jumped into the air and with a resounding "KIYAH!!!" sought to deliver a flying kick to the goblinoid's jaw.

Moving in close to deal the goblin a swift foot to the face.
