Dark Powers |

I'll go for a pair of those potions. What do the gauntlets do?
Increase your strength to 19.

Dunstan Gossington-Gorth |

Dunstan hefts the magical great sword.
This will do for me... its no calvary sabre but it would go well with Grandfathers chainmail.
I believe I had time to fetch and wear it?

Dark Powers |

I believe I had time to fetch and wear it?
Absolutely. Did everyone dig into the grab bag? I think just Derrick and Khalid need to pic something then we will proceed.

Dark Powers |

Dunstan is already @ 19 Str
Are you using the Gauntlets then or is Korgan?
Is the Cloak of Protection a +1 to AC?
I will double check when I get home.

Derrick Tramsen |

Cloak of Protection is +1 to AC and saving throws.
For himself, Derrick takes a pair of the potions, as well as a cold iron and a silver shortsword. He straps these around his waist slung just lower than his current blades, allowing him to easily draw what's needed for a given fight.

Ah, I missed the word ALREADY :-)
I will update tonight.
Dark Powers |

I'll grab the 2 healing potions and the robe of wondrous items then?
Alright.

Dark Powers |

The Ambush

Wyatt Kyros |

The Ambush
"It's too quiet, perhaps a ballad to allow the times to pass more quickly?"
Wyatt begins singing softly, in a language you have never heard him sing in before, the song picks up a bit as he continues though he is a bit of key from his usual range.

Dark Powers |

The Ambush
Marco alerts you to the approach of the Constables from the south.
The sound of a twang from the north catches you all unawares as a crossbow bolt slams into the neck of Kensignton!
"Your group has outlived your usefulness, you have forced my hand in this, don't say I did not warn you!" The Inspector chuckles as he approaches you dropping his crossbow and drawing a longsword.
Dunstan 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Khalid 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Korgan 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Wyatt 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Marco 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Kensignton 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Foe 1 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Foe 2 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Foe 3 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Arturus 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Initiative Order Round 1:
Derrick, Marco, Kensignton, Khalid, Korgan
Arturus
Inspector
Constable 2
Wyatt
Dunstan
Constable 1

Dunstan Gossington-Gorth |

You blaggard you! You've dealt us a rum card but we'll see how you like your own medicine you dirty dog!
Dustan lines up his pistol on the inspectors chest and pulls the trigger.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 for 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
He then drops his pistol and readies his great sword.

Marco Andrezi |

Round 1, Advantage (Assassinate), Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Getting the drop on the Inspector because he has not yet acted in combat, Marco darts in and attacks with his rapier and silvered shortsword before disengaging to safety after the attack.
Rapier Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Rap Adv Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Rap Dam: 1d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 3 + (1, 6) = 17
SS Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
SS Adv Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
SS Dam: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (4, 2) = 11

Korgan Davastus |

"Finally, something that makes sense," Korgan grumbles as he approaches the treacherous investigator, sword drawn.
Longsword 2H: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16, Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
If an enemy I can see within 60ft hits me this turn, I'll cast hellish rebuke as a Reaction to deal them 2d10 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 fire damage (DEX DC 13 for half).

Derrick Tramsen |

Derrick moves without words, dashing alongside the others. He stabs out with his silver shortsword first, and follows it up with a vicious twisting kick.
Shortsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Unarmed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Dark Powers |

Combat Round 1
Kensignton staggers a bit from the shot that hit him but manages to draw his blade and turns to the south, "Come hither scoundrels, we know you are there!" He holds his action to deal with the Constables trying to sneak up on you.
Dr. Arturus lunges from the shadows with a huge grin, his claws seeking the blood of the Inspector!
Claw Attack #1 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16. Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5.
Claw Attack #2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11. Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7.
The heroes encircle the Inspector who has now clearly revealed himself to be a villain if not the killer himself!
He raises his blades with blinding speed putting up an excellent defense. Marco manages to slip a blade into his torso but the Inspector does nt fall so easily. His swordwork keeps Derrick at bay and Korgan's strike is barely deflected by the man's armor.
Finally he steps back to avoid the razor sharp claws of the wolfwere.
Khalid, you are up!
Dunstan, I will hold your roll over till its your turn as the Inspector goes before you.

Khalid de la Poer |

Sorry, I couldn't get Paizo to load for me yesterday evening.
Khalid is using his Arcane Recovery ability during the short rest to gain a 1st level spell slot back.
Will cast burning hands and try to catch the doctor and as many constables as possible in it. My sculpt spell ability will keep two companions safe from the fire.
Burning Hands: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) = 16 in a 15 foot cone.
If my spell would hit more than two companions or if I can't actually hit more than just the doctor, then I'll use magic missile instead.
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 2, 1) + 3 = 7

Dark Powers |

No worries, I had that same problem yesterday too, Paizo was doing site maintenance.
Khalid, the Dr. is on your side, at least for this battle, so I don;t think you want to target him yet! The two Constables I think are still too far down the street to hit, do you want to hold that spell and release it as they charge?

Dark Powers |

Round 1 Combat
Khalid's fire spell reveals that the Constables were closing in on the party in the darkened streets. As the fire comes towards them they leap backwards.
As the flash dies out, one has been burned worse than the other judging by the singed clothing.
Kensington stabs at the one that has already been badly burned.
But his strike misses.

Wyatt Kyros |

Round 1 Combat
Wyatt then draws his own short sword and plunges it into Kensington's back!
Kensington cries out as the blade pierces his throat and he falls forward dead.
Wyatt turns to Khalid and grins, "You're next Wizard..."
Khalid, make a Fear check having watched one of your companions slay another right before you eyes.

Dark Powers |

Round 1 Combat
The Inspector moves from defense to offense his left handed blade moving so fast it is a blur. He quickly thrusts out at Derrick, Marco, and Korgan once each.
The Inspector strikes Derrick and Marco with his blurred weapon. Derrick takes11 Damage. Marco takes 8 Damage.
His off-hand though misses Korgan wide wide of the mark.
The Constable badly burned rushes at Khalid stabbing twice in quick succession at the Wizard.
The first strike slices into Khalid's arm. Khalid 6 points of damage. The second is deflected by the Wizard's magical armor.
Dunstan keeps his focus on the Inspector and his bullet strikes the man square in the chest staggering him back a step.
As he draws his sword, Dunstan must turn to face the last Constable who throws himself forward with wild abandon!
The Constables first thrust connects with Dunatsns leg, blood sprays everywhere. Dunstan take 11 damage. Blessedly, the second stab misses.

Dark Powers |

Initiative Order Round 2
Chaos! Wyatt appears to have turned on his friends. The Inspector is surrounded by foes but to the rear, Khalid and Dunstan are suddenly in deep trouble as one of their own has fallen.
Dunstan, Eyatt just stabbed your friend, likely to death...
Initiative Order
Derrick, Marco, Khalid, Korgan
Arturus
Inspector, Constable 2, Evil Wyatt
Dunstan
Constable 1

Derrick Tramsen |

Derrick grinds his teeth, but a hiss still escapes his lips as the Inspector slashes into him. The wound is deep, just under his ribs, and he feels it pull as he attacks back with his own strikes--following up a stab of his silvered sword with an elbow thrust and a knee. Spending a ki point for a Flurry of Blows.
Shortsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Unarmed 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Critical Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
Unarmed 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Marco Andrezi |

Not sure how the Inspector attacked me? I used a disengage action as part of my cunning (bonus) action to move away after my attack. I will be moving in, attacking, and doing the same on this turn.
Round 2, Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Marco darts in quickly on the inspector and jabs him with his rapier, and as he disengages again slashes with his silvered shortsword.
Rapier Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Rap Dam: 1d8 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (8) + 3 + (1, 3) = 15
SS Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
SS Dam: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 3 + (5, 3) = 16

Korgan Davastus |

"Okay, right back to nothing making sense."
Korgan then frantically slashes at his nearest opponent.
Longsword 2H: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19, Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Again, if I get hit by an enemy I can see, I'll use my reaction to cast hellish rebuke and deal 2d10 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 fire damage to them (DC 13 DEX for half).

Dark Powers |

Sorry Marco, I missed that, his strike then would have hit Derrick. Will retcon that when I get home later.

Khalid de la Poer |

"Wyatt, why?!" Khalid unloads another Burning Hands spell on as many foes (now including Wyatt) as he can.
Burning Hands: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1) = 11 DC13 to save for half
Aaaand Khalid is now down to cantrips. Luckily, they are pretty useful in 5th!

Dark Powers |

As Marco stepped back, the Inspector attacked Derrick with his second strike but was unable to penetrate the defenses of the Monk.
Round 2
Derrick, Marco, and Korgan continue to focus their attacks despite the chaos behind them. Both Korgan and Derrick land solid strikes on the Inspector who shouts back at them, "I am but the elders servant. Even if you strike me down, my clan will avenge me!"
Khalid's spell arcs away from Dunstan and his foe striking one of the Constables and Wyatt the group's former friend.
Wyatt manages to dance away from the worst of it but the other Constable is certainly being burned badly by the Wizard's spells.
Arturus turns on Wyatt, "Bloody traitor!" slashing at him with Claws.
Claw Attack #2 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4.
His first claw connects but the second Wyatt sidesteps.
Khalid, you still need to roll that FEAR check!

Wyatt Kyros |

Round 2
Wyatt laughs and responds to Khalid, "Because you are fools to fight the power that the Inspector represents you cannot win only submit!"
Wyatt's attack slices a thin red line across the Wizard's arm.
Khalid take 5 damage.

Dark Powers |

Round 2
The Constable that struck Khalid perceives the raging wolfwere as the larger threat, it drops its weapon and steps back drawing a small hand crossbow and fires it at the Dr.
The shot goes wide of its mark as the Dr. ducks the bolt.
The Inspector meanwhile focuses all of his concentration on taking down a single foe and his focus is on Korgan wielding the large sword.
Two of his three powerful thrusts strike Korgan but his own fiery defense ignites the Inspector.
Korgan takes 18 damage.
Dunstan's swing misses his foe sending sparks along the cobblestoned street.
The Constable strike back with two furious blows.
Both strikes lacerate Dunstan's midsection. Another 13 damage.

Dark Powers |

Initiative Order - Round 3
Derrick, Marco, Khalid, Korgan
Arturus
Inspector, Constable 2, Evil Wyatt
Dunstan
Constable 1.
The Inspector looks much worse for the wear as does Dunstan.
The fight with the Inspector is approximately 15' from the area in the middle of the street where the rest of the group is fighting Wyatt and the 2 Constables.

Marco Andrezi |

Round 3, Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Marco again darts in quickly on the inspector, looking for the week spot, and jabs him with his rapier and slashes with his silvered shortsword before disengaging again.
I'll be sure t'give yer best to the Elder when I see him!
Rapier Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Rap Crit Dam: 2d8 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (2, 7) + 3 + (6, 6, 6, 2) = 32
SS Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
SS Dam: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (6, 5) = 18

Dunstan Gossington-Gorth |

Round 3
Dunstan attacks again with the magical greatsword (assuming the inspector is still alive after that crit)
Greatsword of Doom[/dice: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 for 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2) + 5 = 9

Dark Powers |

Combat Round 3
Khalid you manage to resist the cold feeling in the pit of your stomach from Wyatts' betrayal
Marco stabs the Inspector in the neck and blood spurts out over the Rogue, the Inspector falls to his knees and then drops backwards.
The Inspectors swords drop from his nerveless hands. As his breath rattles in his throat his appearance begins to change. The middle aged robust man is replaced by a bipedal, sexless humanoid with a monstrous face. It has a hairless head, an ash gray complexion and pointed ears that bend out from the head rather than lying against the skull. The space between the nose and its mouth is far too large, several inches at least while the eyes are to high up on the face.
Marco Derrick, Khalid, and Korgan, I need Horror checks at a DC of 10 as you have just vanquished the foe you get Advantage on the rolls.
Also make a Nature skill check DC 15, Derrick gains Advantage on the roll.
With the Inspector, or whatever it was, dead, the fight is now behind you where Dunstan and Khalid are hard pressed by the two Constables and Wyatt!
Remaining Initiative Order - Round 3
Derrick, Khalid, Korgan
Arturus
Constable 2, Evil Wyatt
Dunstan
Constable 1.

Derrick Tramsen |

Horror: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Advantage: 1d20 ⇒ 1
I don't remember the modifier for this roll but apparently it doesn't matter.
Nature: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Advantage: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Passed that one. I'll wait to post an action until I find out what the effects of that failed Horror roll is.
