I’m looking to start up a Play-by-Post game and have narrowed it down to either Age of Worms or Rise of the Runelords.

System: Pathfinder 1e

Is there interest in one of these? If so, which would you rather play (and why)?

If there’s enough interest, I’ll post a full recruitment thread with campaign details and character creation rules.

I think you will find plenty of interest. I am willing to play either but first choice would be RotRL.

I’ve played a lot of RotR. Never played Age of Worms. I’d give that a whirl.

I'd certainly be interested in the RotRL.

I vote Age of Worms, although I think I'd prefer a module to an AP unless you can type at the speed of light

Dot

I would love to play either, though I have played Rise of the Runelords once or twice. I don't even really know what Age of Worms is about, but there is no amount of required reading I won't peruse.

If AcrimoniousArcanist was for age of Worms, then I'll have to pick Rise of the Runelords to keep the count even.

I'd say Age of Worms. Runelords appears on these boards a lot. I can count on one hand the number of AoW games I've seen here in the last 16 years.

Age of Worms

As Stormraven says, it comes around a lot less often than RotR.

You will inevitably have plenty of interest for either, though.

Age of Worms seems very interesting. Not only is it rarer to see here as a story, it has a 20th level cap which is also rare.

Very interested in Age of Worms.

I'd vote for Age of Worms.

Looks like Age of Worms is currently leading considerably. I'll be pretty busy this weekend so I will let the thread run through the weekend and then post an official recruitment thread on Monday

Since I'm already playing in a Rise of the Runelords game, I too would enjoy an Age of Worms game! The question is, would you be setting the game in its original home of Greyhawk or shifting it to Golarion, or something else entirely?

I would be shifting it to golarion. It has been ages since I have played in greyhawk and don't remember much of it

That'll be a fair bit of work - there's a lot of classic Greyhawk references in AoW. Although to be fair, converting it to PF1 (it's 3.5) will also be a bunch of work...

@Slayde77,
things you might want to look at, to make your life easier/more interesting (and yes, sometimes those objectives contradict each other):

Paizo web extras for the AoW AP

THIS at least claims to have a fully PF1'ed set of statblocks for AoW...

THIS is a players guide that someone put together (although the parts aren't in order).

THIS is a how to run the AP workbook off of GITP forums.

I’m also in favor of Age of Worms. :-)

Very interested.

Thanks. I have a lot of that from when I ran this in person many years ago. This will definitely save me from having you figure out where I on my hard drive I have it stored

Why not just choose from the interested ones in this thread? Recruitment done! ;)

I have some theories on that...

Theory 1:
Slayde wants to weed out the 'riff raff'. And I include myself when I say 'riff raff'. :P

Theory 2:
Slayde has a 'unique' vision for the game which may not appeal to all players. IIRC, AoW starts out in a rough mining town ruled by wannabe robber-barons. Slayde's campaign focuses on the children of the ruling elite... so we're talking angsty teen drama and acne mixed with undead in a world of greed and empire building shenanigans set in a Mining High School.

It's 'Yukon Gold' meets 'Twilight'... which makes the build parameters pretty specific. The only playable races are Human and Dhampir. And while it is a 25 point build, no character can have a CHA of less than 16... because everyone in Twilight is impossibly pretty. :D

Please tell me you are joking :D

And gnolls are not riff raff sir! At least the ones I have crossed paths with ;)

My characters are solid... I'm the riff raff here! :P

I am super-curious to see what kind of build parameters Slayde has in mind... and I pray ardently that Twilight never appears in the recruitment thread. There are some Hells I won't venture into!

Scarab Sages

I love the idea of Age of Worms! Like many have said by now, it doesn't come up around here. Offhand I can't think any time I've seen it before.

...well, it's a good thing my intended submission was a prettyboy human paladin of Wee Jas intending to multiclass into Sorcerer! XD

Another vote for Age of Worms!

Age of Worms!!!!

Rise of the Runelords, I ran AoW, know it too well to play in it, but it IS awesome.

Either one would be fine; have played AoW through Part 5 and some of Part 6 (ten years ago!), and have played in several RotRL games that flamed out before Part 2. (I'm also running two RotRL games on the boards, one into Part 2 and the other just starting Part 4.)

I just want people to be aware that I still plan on running this but I got unexpectedly slammed at work and I don't have time to get this started right now. I will hopefully be a bit more open in a week or two and can start something then. Apologies for the delay

There was a failed attempt to start Age of Worms about a year ago. It did not get far before it sputtered out. I vote Age of Worms.

'Tis cool! We'll be standing by when you're ready!

AoW is indeed a huuggeee adventure. I believe there is one on the boards here that is in the late game but even then, a bunch of stuff has been trimmed down.

I'm interested, I don't know either of them, I read storyhours of both so not totally unfamiliar.

I never played Worms in any shape or form, while i started (years ago) Runelords and got to the cathedral under sandpoint.

Sorry to hear it, but such is life - hang in there!

I also vote for AOW. Epic....very epic!

I'd be down for either!

AoW could be great, obviously. I'd personally love to play RotRL more, but only if we're actually gonna plan on a full run of it. :) I've never gotten the chance.

Would LOVE to play AOW!

Still here :) Still trying to find one good game that goes the distance

Aaaaah yes, that elusive unicorn!

Very hard to find, my friend.

Since it appears AoW is the fan favorite, is there any interest in playing RotRL for PF2?

DM DoctorEvil wrote:

I do not have the PF 2 books, but could probably find a way to get my hands on one.

I don't particularly like PF2; a PF1 version would be much more of interest.

I meant I could run it if there were players. I don't believe an official conversion exists.

PF2 is ,I think, suited to PbP much like dmd 4e was, with spells and effects and conditions short, well-defined, and with very "gamey" mechanics with resists at the start/end of the turn.

Not super familiar with PF2 yet, but I'd be up for it. Would love to finally get to play RotRL. ;)
