Making a Human Gunslinger With Mythic Ranks. Need Some Help

Advice

Hello, I’m submitting a human gunslinger for a WotR campaign, but I’ve not played gunslinger nor mythic ranks. I was thinking either champion or trickster, possibly the former for damage output.

The stats I have are from a roll (roll 4d6 and remove the lowest result), and they resulted in
Strength 9, Dexterity 15 (+2 for 17), Con 12, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 10.

Champion has better abilities for a gunslinger. Distant Barrage can give you an extra attack and allow you to ignore most cover and concealment. Limitless Range multiplies the range increments of your ranged weapons by 5. This means the distance you can target your opponents touch AC without spending grit is much further. . Maximized Critical works well with the higher damage dice and critical multiplier of firearms. Mythic Flair lets you regain grit and bypass damage reduction. Unstoppable Shot allows you to attack all creatures in a straight line up to your maximum range (works even better with Limitless Range). The universal path ability Sniper’s Riposte makes it so you don’t provoke AoO for making a ranged attack

Trickster has some decent stuff, but a lot of it is CHA based. It is also less focused on combat and more on out of combat abilities. Champion is going to give you more bang for your buck.

Note that you can always take the Dual Path mythic feat if you want to select abilities from two different paths. With Dual Path (Champion, Trickster), you could even use the Path Dabbling trickster ability on a single ability from a third path.

So definitely Champion. My other concern is I’ve never played Gunslinger. but I have played a full archer character before. so would you say they’re similar (not the same but similar)?

Also forgot to mention, character is being made at level 10

Dual Path is best for characters that want path abilities from multiple paths. It works best for classes that have multiple focuses. A bard or inquisitor for example have spells, but also have a lot of other class abilities and decent combat ability. A gunslinger is pretty much focused on combat with a bit better skills than a fighter.

It is also more useful when one path does not have enough decent path abilities for the concept. Champion has a ton of decent path abilities for a gunslinger.

A gunslinger might find a few trickster path abilities useful: Improbable Prestidigitation (if the character hasn't taken Quick Draw), Master of Escape, Ricochet (if you want to conserve mythic power or use a swift action on something other than Distant Barrage), Shadow Stealth (if teleporting between areas of darkness might be useful), (3rd tier) Mirror Dodge, Vanishing Move. Also, Path Dabbling allows the gunslinger to poach Enduring Armor from the archmage path!

Champion is the primary, but there could be some nice pick ups with Dual Path.

The Exchange

A key question is "what are your other party members playing, and what paths are they taking?"

Champion is by far the best path for maximizing a gunslinger's combat potential. However if no one else is taking the Marshal path you might want to consider it (or dual-pathing) in order to maximize overall party good.

Gunslingers are pretty close to a traditional archer. You want most of the same feats. Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim, Precise/Improved Precise Shot, etc. The one key difference is the reload time. Unless you are playing a musket master archetype you can't reload a two-handed firearm as a free action. Even with Rapid Reload and Alchemical Cartridges. Make sure you have figured out your required loads.

Another good champion path ability might be Mythic Weapon Training (Firearms). It allows you to use feats that require you to choose a specific weapon on all firearms. Most gunslingers are going to want Rapid Reload, but if you have others like weapon focus that are also weapon specific this could be useful. If you have access to multiple types of firearms, that is going to be very useful.
