Cube area of effect?

Rules Discussion

Hey all, just looking to see if there's some rule I can't find. I'm wondering if there's any mention of how a cube area works in regards to placement mostly. Looking at hell of 1m needles as an example, it says it fills a 30 ft cube; my question is how do you place it if you have less than that much area? Could it occupy a small corner of a room, does the center have to be in line of sight/effect, etc.

I'm not aware of a definition of a Cube area. It may be in Rage of Elements somewhere though.

Barring someone finding something more specific, I would probably run it like a Burst area. Which means that the center has to be within your line of effect, but the entire area does not. Any part of the area that is not within line of effect of the center would not be affected. So it wouldn't wrap around a corner or through a wall, but if you cast it with the center on the far side of a partial wall, then the are on the other side of the wall would be affected.

I think that's very fair, no shenanigans but also not super limiting either. It would be nice to have an actual rule but at least I'm not the only one who can't find it
