Character build advice: The Twins

Advice

One thing I love about PF2E, is the pure customization.

Race: Poppet
Class: Witch
Heritage: Toy Poppet

The idea is to be size tiny instead of small and have a Poppet familiar. You and the familiar are magically connected and together make magic happen.

My question is what Patron should I choose, and what spells should I focus on?

Keep in mind this is my first Witch build. I have read over the Witch but never really made one.

Do remember that Witch class is getting major changes in about a month. So any advice I give currently is going to be very out of date at that time.

Choice of patron and spells is mostly open to your own preferences.

My best advice is actually on which feats to avoid. Cauldron is not needed or very useful until the upgrade feats you can get at mid levels. Wortwitch is pretty bad - and wouldn't help you any since you are wanting a poppet familiar. The Eldritch Nails feat is terrible. Living Hair isn't much better, though with some of the upgrade feats it becomes decent if your entire build is centered around it.

I think this is a fun idea, but will also echo Eoran a bit here. Things are going to get quite the shake-up with the witch class soon! That said, I would be curious what sort of focus you want this character to have beyond "twinned poppet."

Sort of going off a blank slate of "wanting to do things with my twin," I would say that any patron theme is fitting, though I suppose Baba Yaga does lean a little more into the theme of animated objects. From there, I'd play around with spells like animate rope or ventriloquism to further act as some sort of conduit between yourself and the unliving objects around you. Grab some telekinetic spells for offense and you have a pretty basic theme to play around with. Get the Spell Delivery master ability for the poppet familiar and play around with being the twins switching places, even.

My Baba Yaga Witch prepares Calm Emotions for enemies with a mind. And Animated Assault for those without. The latter is definitely not the most powerful spell, but when you are in appropriate conditions, it is pretty good.

And it is completely in the friendly objects theme.

Getting closer to stealing this idea, myself.

feel free to do so. I was thinking of baba yaga and going with many of those spells. Also bitting words. Flavored as singing nursery rhymes. Fear as well.

Looking at the new Patrons in the Remaster Preview, the familiars will generally have a more active role in combat. The familiar for The Inscribed One can provide flanking, for example. So in general, the Remastered familiars are going to be better for filling this theme of being a twin of the Witch.
