The thing about the Demon Core as I understand it is that it was actually pretty safe (at least relatively so) if you treated it with the proper level of respect: So many people died a slow and painful death because someone basically said 'hold my beer and watch this...'
The PF equivalent would be something with the follow die results*:
1: Slow and Painful death for you (no save) and others in the room if they don't succeed at a save.
2+: Impress the people around you a bit if they understand what is going on, how dangerous it is, and are so unwise as to not flee in terror...
If treated with the proper respect and safeguards, you should at least get a save against dying that debilitates you on a failure but only kills you on a critical failure.
*I hesitate to use 'critical failure' here because that indicates you can eventually out-skill this foolishness...

I haven't watched Oppenheimer. But from the vague description of this Demon Core that has been given in the thread, I would suggest creating it as a Cursed Item rather than a hazard or trap. You could also look to Blighted Boons for inspiration on how to represent 'slow and painful death'.
