Would protection from evil work if you invited evil in?

Scarab Sages

I'm just pondering the dismissable part of protection from evil. Say you cast it on the fighter who then encounters an evil being who's healing skilled at non-magical manipulation (talking) and they convince the fighter to invite them to take control in order to achieve something. Would protection function as normal or would this be like deliberately failing a will save and it would do nothing?

Thematically, I could see it no longer working. But mechanically, the spell doesn’t care what you did, it just keeps evil out.

Notice that protection from evil has a will save. It’s the sort of thing that can be done against your will.

Dismissing a spell can only be done by the caster. so once the protection from evil is on the fighter, it's there until the caster dismisses it, or the duration expires.

TxSamm88 is right the recipient of the spell has no control over the duration. As Melkiador pointed out it does allow a will save if the recipient wishes to resist it. But if the spell is already up the recipient has no control over it.

So, the fighter under the spell cannot allow themselves to be controlled.
