Monk stances with armor?

Rules Discussion

Hi, all.

So I've been checking monk stances, and invariably they all some have the same requirement: being unarmoured.

Fair enough, since they're MONK stances. But then I've seen that there some of them (like Gorilla Stance or Stumbling Stance), exceptionally, don't have this requirement.

Is this real life? Is this intended? Has it been marked for errata, or confirmed as an oversight, or something?

I would be surprised if this was intended, considering Paizo's tendency to disallow any kind of synergies involving unarmed attacks, so I though I'd double check just in case!

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Martial Artist archetype gives access to both of these stances, both of which were introduced in the Advanced Player's Guide, which is also the source of the Martial Artist. So I'm inclined to believe that it was intentional that they don't have an unarmored requirement.

A couple monk stances do not require being unarmored. However, monks do not gain proficiency in armor and even with archetypes that provide training, do not go past expert in proficiency. This results in armor being a downgrade for monks regardless of stance.

Notably this means that unarmed characters that are not Monks can use these stances just fine. Stumbling Stance Swashbucklers are a good example of this.
