I had to edit my previous post a couple times. I apologize if anyone saw my much harsher original phrasing.

I've also decided to scrub this one, because as frustrated and insulted as I personally feel, it isn't important. I'm sorry. I'm going to try to stop engaging with people who directly insult me or my friends and neighbors.

I think these forums benefit from a logical fallacy or etiquette bot.

I can see it now: Objection - personal attack! Objection - straw man fallacy! Objection - slippery slope argument! Objection - off topic! ( Can anybody think of a few more?)

Or maybe a shared language we can all use to describe it when we see it. Could help defuse arguments. Just a thought!

Being unapologetic about being a selfish person doesn’t make it somehow noble. Good for you, you care only about your own opinions. Then why post repeatedly looking for validation? All it does is cause people harm.

But then, you know that.

They have been using that excuse almost since they founded the company. Either they are unable to staff to the level they need to, or they are unwilling to. Either way, after more than a decade, if they don't change their business practices to account for the staff they do have, it demonstrates their inability at conducting their business.

Problem is one solution to that would be remove the forums but you already have people in this thread saying they would cancel all there subscriptions if they did. Honestly I suspect when you get down to it money is the big stumbling block here for a fair few of the forums problems either because they wont (Or as I'm starting to suspect more and more at time goes on.) cant pay the money they need to fix things.

While I don't know Paizo's financials--and I certainly hope the union is able to achieve much greater transparency in that department--it's worth noting that they are still making new hires. It's not like they're on the verge of bankruptcy.

Removed several posts containing personal attacks and baiting. Also removed a series of posts referring to witch hunts. I'm hereby banning torches and pitchforks from this forum and replacing them with flowers and marshmallow catapults (no shovels in deference to Shove). Moderators have spent way to much time in this thread today. If it continues to melt down in personal attacks or nitpicking verbiage, we will close it down. Thank you.

I'm going to take a step back. I've been making this situation worse by not being able to... stop. So I'm going to stop.

From Shove:
"Shove thank! Is thankless job you do like mining. No one appreciates getting dirty but everyone wants to throw dirt on you when you're working hard!"

May deserving individuals please have banning if they come in here deliberately trying to close it down with horrendous posting?

No money wasn't the stumbling block. Vic Wertz refused to implement it for reasons that I'll have to go back and look in the forums. How good are you going to be at doing somethings that no one bothered to implement?

Edit
I also have words about how deleting the forums isn't going to fix the moderation issue. It's a bigger issue and one I'm going to try and tactfully explain.

Sidenote, I do think its actual improvement that moderation team is now describing what was removed :O Like it does makes it clearer what isn't allowed

An entire thread just vanished now. It was a thread that had turned to *how* to better communicate with others.

While I can understand the need for removal if there were toxic comments there, the conversation had become productive and insightful.

If the insight we gain from discussion gets removed, we cannot learn or grow, and instead are condemned to repeating the mistakes of the past.

Perhaps it's being moved to a different section of the forums? I would certainly hope it's not just being nuked without any elaboration.

So someone posted a few "problems" that they believed held more nuance than we claim. The problems you described are largely tools. They aren't real. They're smokescreens to fool well-meaning people into helping to harm trans people.

I wanted to just shut them down and move on, because they had just unintentionally said cruel things that would probably get deleted (and, indeed, they were), but I don't want to leave them in the dark, because I'm afraid of how you might react to that.

So here's a very brief and half-assed explanation of two tools in the transphobe's arsenal, and why they're wrong.

Spoiler:
Banning trans woman from the military was never about logistics. Missing HRT can hurt, but it doesn't cause life-threatening symptoms like asthma often does. You know, not all asthmatic people are blocked from the military--just those with severe conditions.

It was a tool wielded by bigots to eliminate one of trans women's most common escape routes from abusive families, most common means of getting HRT. The military and trans women have a complicated and charged history. It wasn't really about logistics.

Meanwhile, men do not pretend to be trans women to get access to cis women because cis men are more trusted than trans women around cis women. There is nowhere they can get access to as a trans woman that they wouldn't get easier access to as a cis man.

The "predatory fake trans woman" myth is a myth to sow distrust and anxiety about trans women, to isolate them in male-only spaces and put them in greater danger. It is an obsession with one or two Fox News stories that are always treated as more important than the thousands of cases of trans women being assaulted, or of cis women being assaulted by cis men, because the lives of women are seen as less important than the comfort of cis people.

They are bad faith tools used to hurt trans people. Please do not post them here.

Removed transphobic posts & quotes. There is no counter-argument to "Trans women are women/Trans men are men" so stop trying to find one.

I'm looking into the thread that disappeared.

I'm locking this thread until I have time/ability to handle moderation duties on the back end. An OS hiccup caused some issues with my access, so it may stay closed until tomorrow.
