Can an intelligent item take over a construct?

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

I came across the Cutlass Spider and now I'm wondering if it can be controlled by an intelligent item. Constructs are immune to all mind-affecting effects. Intelligent items don't use a mind-affecting effect to control their wielder, or at least, it's not mentioned in the text and it doesn't refer to a spell, like Dominate Person.

On a side note, I guess it's technically taking over the body but the same can be said about Dominate Person.

Short answer: No, but maybe, but also possibly yes.

Long answer: Constructs can't be controlled by anyone but their creator. If their creator dies, the construct just continues on following its last command until its fulfilled, and once its fulfilled, it just stands there awaiting new orders from its master, and since the master is dead, it just sits there gathering dust forever... so this is a hard No.

That being said...

The Impossible Bloodline would allow you to cast Dominate Person on a Construct. There's also the Control Construct spell, but I don't think that's what you're looking for. So if your Intelligent Item can take classes in Sorcerer or Blood Arcanist, then your Intelligent Item would have the ability to cast Dominate Person on Constructs via the Impossible Bloodline.

If your intelligent item can equip a headband or neck slot, then possibly yes:
Diadem of Control <---- this is probably your best bet

Charm of Allum Control <--- also possible option

You can actually give an intelligent item an at will level 7 spell. (If it has a dpecial purpose.) A +10 bonus to Spellcraft would also be an option. You could go as far as giving it a 20 in Intelligence for a total of +15 in Spellcraft which would mean it would only fail its check 10% of the time. That might just make things more interesting.

Ofcourse, that's a really expensive way to control a Cutlass Spider.
