It has happened to me many times, where I will happily go up a few levels in a game, and then for some reason check a rule and realise something I have went up in power as I levelled up... which I totally forgot about.
most recent example being certain skills at 10 ranks increase their bonus (with a feat). Just totally glossed over that..
So what weird rules/abilities have you found out about, that should have changed with level and you didnt??

For me it's usually just numbers - saves or more uses of class pool features (arcane pool, ferver, etc) or something like that. Or any class feature that gives +1/3 per level (or slower) progression, just because it's something that you increase so rarely it's easy to forget.
It's more common when I'm multiclassing because the usual progression doesn't apply any more.

another one I forget... fighting defensively/total defence increases when you have acrobatics ranks I seem to remember.... I am not sure I have ever added that on in combat!

I always have to re-research my spells before I cast them. I never have it memorized if the buff from the spell increases every 2 levels, 3 levels, 5 levels, etc. I played a hunter/warpriest and even Divine Favor I don't have memorized!

I used to have that all the time until I found a spell card generator. Prints out PDFS two sided colour cards.. so much nicer having a deck of cards now for spells rather than scraps of paper.
Also some satisfying about slapping a spell down.

A friend of mine forgot to increase their base attack bonus and saves. Or add an extra hit die. Or add skills. Or pick out a feat.
This is why I'm a bigger GM advocate than a player one. Because we have to deal with messes like this.

My friends mock me a little and roll their eyes, but I almost never forget things when I level. Why/How you ask? Because, my particular brand of O.C.D. has me go back and check every facet of my race, class, and build choices from Lvl. 1 up every time I level. Building and leveling are not fast processes for me If I can't account for every little random +1 I have noted, I go back and track down each and every feature and perk until I know the number I have is correct. Sometimes it's painful, but at least I know I'm not missing anything.

One gal in one of my games routinely forgets to adjust her saves. However, she's playing a U-Rogue and ANY time I call for a Perception check she reads off her verbiage on how she's plus whatever if the check is in regards to a trap, or invisible creatures, or whatever.
Like, I've had 1 invisible creature and 6 traps total in this campaign so far. She's had to change her saves for 5 levels. Really? The PERCEPTION thing is the most important?

In her defense, I suspect that she does make a lot more Perception checks than saving throws, even if the consequences of failing the latter are more dire.

Sometimes it's painful, but at least I know I'm not missing anything. I have an easy way to ensure that I don't miss anything when leveling. I use a Word file to maintain all character information, and I actually type the word "level" next to a formula or level reference whenever there is anything that might change with leveling. Then, when I actually do level, I do a global replace to mark every use of the word "level" and then check each item individually to see whether it needs to be updated. This method works fairly well for me.

Hero Lab helps me catch pretty much all the mathematical changes, but I'm also a little OCD about knowing where all the numbers come from. The biggest problem that my wife and I have is that, since most of our gaming these days is PFS, and we both have enough characters that it may be a few months (or longer) between times that we play a given PC, we sometimes forget all about using the cool new toy that we picked up during the last level or two.
It's worse for my wife, who has been GMing more than I have this past year or so (she's a V.O., and embraced VTT more enthusiastically than I did). We have a weekly game where she and another GM alternate between running books of two different APs, so she only plays her PC every other level, and constantly kicks herself for forgetting basic schticks her archetype is built for.

This! I have spent almost an entire level forgetting I took Accursed Hex. I have spell cards, Hex cards, cards for everything except my poor brain!

I can't remember forgetting anything, but on the other hand my last level up as a player was years ago. Meh
After helping someone with her first shaman I realized the character sheet could really use some color coding for connections. Make Strength red, do the same for the strength modifier of CMB and CMD, maybe for attack bonus of some weapons, for sure for Climb and Swim. Repeat for the other ability scores, as well as the level (BAB, saves etc.), trait bonuses, and maybe other stuff. With such visible connections it should be easier to track what changes.
One of my players is happy with PCGen, and honestly, I am happy he uses it instead of struggling with a paper character sheet...
