While it's obviously fixed for me now, I know I and a few others have had quite a bit of difficulty signing in today. At least one other person mentioned they still can't sign in.
We have the hypothetical ability to do so and can go through the motions, but when we would be successfully signed in, we simply aren't. It's like we never even tried to sign in, even though we'd use the correct information and proceedure. Everything responds as if we were able to sign in normally except we weren't able to sign in.
It's been this way all day until now: this just was corrected for me about seven to ten minutes before the start of writing this post, but within that time, as noted, a friend said he was still experiencing the problem.
Hope mentioning this here is helpful! Thank you for all you do!

I can't.
I can't... see my post. So I don't know if it works or not.
But! In case it's not there:
- I've been unable to sign in most of the day
- when I've attempted to do so, the process seems to go through as normal, until I would normally be successfully signed in I am treated as if I am not
- I know this has been true for three or four other posters, one of which, at the time of the creation of this thread (which I'm uncertain if it works or not) still could not successfully sign in, even though I can now (obviously, if this works)
Hope this helps! Thank you for your hard work!

Hey there, Tacticslion! We had an outage today with the servers keeping track of our session information, which is crucial for making log-ins "stick". We finished repairing the problem around 5:00 PM PST, but sessions from before then won't work properly. Anyone having trouble signing in should be able to fix the issue by deleting their paizo.com cookies and attempting to log in again.

If you have chrome, you can just select the paizo cookies to delete. I did that and was able to login after that.

I can confirm that it worked :)

Please note that deleting browsing data from the last N days won't help you if your last successful sign-in on that browser was before then. You could delete *all* your cookies, but that's going a bit scorched-earth on your browser.
In both Firefox and Chrome, you can easily find and delete just Paizo's cookies by clicking the padlock next to the URL. Here's the documentation for Firefox; Chrome has an almost identical feature, but it doesn't appear to be officially documented that I can find.
If you want to follow official Chrome documentation, there's a more involved process here.
Deleting from Edge is similarly a bit more involved, documented here.
Deleting from Safari is also similar, documented here.
If you're still unable to log in after following one of the above procedures, there's a different problem going on, and we'd like to hear from you!

Even after deleting cookies and bookmarks, and all auto-login information for Paizo today, I was unable to login to my account using my previous password.
From the login screen I typed in my login email and my password.
I got a red error message that said something like "that login and that password don't match".
Somehow the password file no longer matched the password stored in my bookmark/auto login file. And it didn't work when I typed it in my hand.
I was able to successfully reset my password, but....
Using the new, temporary password I initially got the same error message. It took several tries before I was able to log in with the auto-generated password sent by Paizo.

Did you attempt to reset your password yesterday during that time?
No, I didn't reset anything. Initially on Wednesday (yesterday) I could see that it had been more than 4 hours since any forum posts had been made. That was before the 'site maintenance' screen went up.
Knowing that the site was down, I refrained from making any changes. I was hoping that once the site was up again, all my bookmarks and logins would just start working. But when I tried to sign in this morning, I couldn't.
At that point I cleaned out my browser's Paizo settings (cookies, saved passwords, auto logins) and tried just typing in the information myself. Didn't work.
I didn't do any password resets until today at approximately 9:30 am PST

The website signed me out around 4:40pm EST today (I have been signed in for months). The sign-in procedure left me still signed out. I cleared a few recent cookies and my Microsoft Edge browser crashed. After that, I was able to sign in.
EDIT: Correction: given updates about new comments to read, I was signed out hours ago, but did not notice.

It took a whole extra day before my resetting my password was recognized (allowing me to log in to create a new permanent password).
During the whole of yesterday the instructions were up (that say "clear your cookies") but that wasn't enough. Until the software recognizes your password reset, you still can't get in.
(Hopefully I'm the last customer experiencing the delay, but if I'm not I thought this would be helpful. X-posting this in all three relevant threads)

I have managed to login through my laptop browser (Chrome), by deleting cookies, as someone pointed out.
I'm still having problems in logging in thorugh my mobile browser (always Chrome), I did clear my cookies on my phone as well, rebooted, changed password, but I still can't login.
Any suggestions?

Safari works just fine for me. I did have to delete cookies and such. The problem seems to have been that my Safari retained a cookie saying I was logged in, but after the updates or fixes or whatever the site did not have me logged in. Deleting cookies meant that there was no longer a conflict.

Why is it that when I add a reply in the forums, the system puts me back in the thread, but in order to see my reply, I have to reload the page?

Attempting to log into Paizo resulted in a Google message stating that the Paizo site's information has recently been breached.
I did the scorched earth method and deleted all my cookies, passwords and the whole cache. I also reset my password. That was a bit more work than anticipated, but better safe than sorry.
My only worry at this point: has our personal information been compromised on the Paizo site?
I would appreciate a confirmation on this.
Best regards,
PDK

I'm guessing that what you probably got was a message that the password you used was previously used on a website that had their security breached. See this info about the feature in Chrome, but Google is basically taking the encrypted password you enter on Paizo's site and checking known data breaches to see if that password was ever compromised. This article has pictures of what the alerts look like to see if they match what you saw.
In short, it doesn't mean Paizo's site was compromised, it is a warning that that password you used might not be safe to use since hackers may have already obtained it.

So it's not just me, then. This has been going on for a long time, but until fairly recently it was rather uncommon. Now I often have to reload the page multiple times before it will show my post. A brief search for existing threads on this only turned up this old one.

When I follow the link to safari instructions, I'm landing on a page in Russian. That seems suspicious in light of recent foreign intelligence hacks. Any thoughts?

Would it be unreasonable for Paizo to have a page that just deletes the cookies they are using? Visit that page to be logged out and have stale data removed.
It is unreasonable, if for no other reason that it is completely unnecessary for any properly designed page.
As a long-time customer I can tell you that their website is simply broken, and has remained so for many years and through multiple redesigns. For whatever reason, Paizo is unwilling (or unable) to do what is necessary to truly fix it. That said, it's currently the worst it has ever been for me...I'd say during a typical visit, the site works without error for me at most 50% of the time -- and this is across multiple browsers on several different devices (phone, desktop, laptop, iPad).
It's nothing short of unfathomable to me given their business model, but it is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, it's been a thing with me for a long time, too.
