Double Tap (Combat)

Source Character Operations Manual pg. 114
You can make rapid small arm attacks to increase the effectiveness of your attacks.

Prerequisites: Weapon Focus (small arms), proficiency with small arms.

Benefit: As a standard action, you can take a single attack action to make a double-tap attack with a small arm. This attack gains a +1 bonus to the attack roll, and your bonus to damage from Weapon Specialization is equal to your character level (rather than half your character level). The small arm used cannot have the blast, explode, flexible line, line, unwieldy, or wide line weapon special properties, or any other property that allows it to attack multiple targets or an area in a single attack. This attack cannot benefit from the boost, guided, or variant boost weapon special properties, or any other ability or effect that is a move action and alters the effect of your attack or damage. This expends ammunition equal to two attack rolls, and if you cannot expend that ammunition, you cannot use this ability.

Why is there even a pre-requisite on this?

Why would there not be?

Needing to at least be proficient makes perfect sense, and there's no guarantee that the game will never have a class or alternate class feature that results in a character who isn't proficient in small arms.

As for weapon focus, this is a pretty normal case of a feat with another feat for a prereq. What's egregious about it?

Yeah I forgot weapon focus. But every class has small arms proficiency.

Every CURRENT class has small arms proficiency. That's the kind of thing that can change. Not doing easy future-proofing would be bad design.

...A mistake they made with pathfinder, and thankfully have learned from. I swear the majority of the 1e Rules Questions involving how certain things interacted with one another were answered with "Because that feat/ability/creature/etc was printed before that other feat/ability/creature/etc"

Well technically Drones don't have simple weapon proficiency, however since you can rebuild it when you level you can always change it. My groups Drone Mech just altered his from dual pistols to a rifle so no longer has Small arms proficiency.

That is not actually a thing you can legally do. The drone weapon proficiency mod requires you to meet the feat prerequisites, so a drone that isn't proficient in small arms cannot be proficient in longarms.

Sorry this has gotten of subject but I forgot about the one line in the Weapon proficiency Mod bit, that you need to meet the requirements. Cheers for pointing that out. I will let my mechanic know, and sudjest changing one of his feats

Simulationist: Because rapidly pulling the trigger and having both shots go to the same place rather than shoot recoil throws your aim off shoot is rather hard to pull off

Gamist: Without requiring weapon focus, it can effectively be weapon focus plus for characters making 1 attack with a small arm. You wouldn't need weapon focuses +1 to hit when you're using this all the time.
