Seeking Musical Advice for campaign.

Advice

Hello everyone! I hope i posted this in the right section.

I'm preparing my next Pathfinder campaign at the moment. I like to use music and soundtracks to improve my campaign but most of the time i feel like i get bogged down by trying to find the perfect tracks for everything. So this time, i decided that i'd looking in advance.

In the past i've pretty much used a lot of variety of soundtracks from different origins, but This time i'd like to try to get them all from the same place. I like how some video games or movies have some underlying tune that gets reused in a few of their tracks as it creates a certain feel of consistency.

My campaign tone is mostly gonna be adventurous with a grittier side so i'd like to avoid overtly ''epic'' orchestras and such. It's also gonna involve a lot of travel to different area and so i'd like to find a game, or movie, that could deal with most places and would have music for different kind of scenes (Joyful, Stressful, Combat, Sadness, etc.).

Anyone have some suggestions for me? I'm willing to pay to get access to soundtracks as long as it's not too expansive and i can at least get a good sample beforehand.

Thank you in advance for your time!

I'm no expert on soundtracks, but perhaps the Indiana Jones movies might fit the bill. John Williams definitely utilizes themes that run throughout. I haven't listened to them in a loooooong time, but I would imagine with the movies taking place in different areas of the world that there might be different styles of music. Just my 2 cents.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Paizo has Syrinscape tracks available

Syrinscape
They have some soundtracks for specific APs, like Rise Of The Runelords, Strange Aeons, etc
Pathfinder Soundscapes

Their latest release is for the PF2 Beginner Box, and they have a Pathfinder-specific subscription

All Pathfinder soundscapes

Do you just want background music that runs all the time or do you want to have special tracks for specific moments?

Combining this methods is a lot of work, but can really enhance the effect (you can see the Wasteland 3 game for that).

I think i might have watched one Indiana Jones movie in all my life, but i could definitely take a look into it! I'm more familiar with John williams's work through Star wars. I fear orchestra might be a tad too epic for what i'm looking for, but that's a good suggestion, thanks! :)

I generally use a bit of both, i like to use ambiance soundtracks during calmer moment, or some atmospheric music ala Elder scrolls and typical battle music for combat encounters, going a bit more into epic music for ''boss battle''.

In the past i mostly used sountracks froms Elder scroll, final fantasy, witcher, etc. This time i was looking for a media that could containt everything i needed for a low-powered fantasy world with some general direction. A bit like every game or movie have some variant of the same tune with different tone and tempo depending on the stakes of its scene.

Nox Arcana specifically puts out albums designed to be used as soundtracks for a variety of RP settings, such as zombie apocalypse, creepy asylum, and so on.

Some of their album names include: Blackthorn Asylum, Blood of Angels, Blood of the Dragon, Carnival of Souls, Darklore Manor, Grimm Tales, Necronomicon, Phantoms of the High Seas, Shadow of the Raven, Theater of Illusion, Transylvania, Winter's Eve, Winter's Knight, and Zombie Influx.

The Syrinscape application is free, and there are a number of soundboards that are free as well, so you can definitely try it out to see how you like it. There is also a separate application for sci-fi found effects, that is also free, so be sure to check that out as well. You may not think it would apply to your fantasy campaign, but the sci-fi app also incorporates horror elements (think the Alien movie) that I find very atmospheric.

Silver Crusade

Syrinscape is a great option.

You could also check out the soundtracks by Ennio Morricone.
