”Come, my childe,” your sire tells you. ”We have been summoned by the Prince.”

This is a recruitment thread for a Vampire the Masquerade chronicle set in what is known colloquially as the DMV, a term that describes everything within the Capitol Beltway, I495 during the 1990s. This is not the canon version of DC, but instead my own take on the city and important surrounding regions.

What You Need To Know
As stated above, this is NOT the version of Washington, D.C. presented in official sources and it is for sure NOT going to be remotely touching on real world politics. In fact, my version of this DC metro region has a major agreement preventing vampiric interference in human national politics. The Influence background can still apply to local governments, but seriously, real world politics has no place in the game!

The DMV region is controlled by the Camarilla and has been ruled over for more than a century by a Malkavian Prince. Because of their proximity to world leaders, the Sabbat has made many attempts over the years to infiltrate the region, and a small handful of independent clans live there. The independents outwardly respect Camarilla society or the Prince specifically, but most generally avoid or are excluded from important gatherings.

Characters will need to at least pay lip service to the Prince and the Camarilla, and certainly be willing to work for the Prince. The initial point of the coterie being pulled together revolves around the Prince assembling a team for the purpose of investigating and troubleshooting some unusual occurrences with hints of supernatural involvement. The team will need to be composed of neonates with a variety of useful skills and disciplines to be successful.

The structure of the game will be partly sandbox/player-driven and partly following a planned chronicle arc. This is why it’s important to have some sort of achievable goal(s). I have outlined both the main chronicle and a few subplots as well as creating a series of “side quests” I intend to tailor towards characters.

Sorry, no smartphones, but grab your pagers! This chronicle will be set during the 1990s.

I don’t have a specific target for post rates, and real life often distracts people. If you end up away for an extended time, give us a heads-up when you’re able. I have issues on occasion getting onto a game and updating in a timely fashion, so I understand that things happen.

Expect PG-13, borderline R levels of adult content. I know it's a horror game, and violence and gore will be necessary, but gratuitous stuff should stay away.

On the technical side, I'm using the "Vampire the Masquerade Revised Edition". I believe that's the last version for oWoD, but I'm not certain. Roll20 will be used for maps. I will also have some useful files, such as a brief "by night" gazetteer, available in a shared folder on Google Drive.

More information on my take of the setting can be found this link.

Character Creation:

  • Characters will be selected from submissions based on how interesting the concept and build is, how well they would fit in with the overall story, and a sample post.
  • Standard starting character rules.
  • Merits and flaws are available. This includes specific clan/sect/whatever merits and flaws. Standard 7-point flaw limit.
  • Roll for starting blood pool.
  • Specific details on backgrounds do not need to be filled in during submission. If selected we will need to know more about retainers, contacts, influence, and so on.
  • Any clan is available, but remember the premise as described above. Caitiff will obviously not have a sire, but will have been kept in someone's custody for at least a few weeks prior to the start of the game.
  • Provide a brief sample post. Interactions with the character’s sire, a moment from a typical night, or stalking a herd member would all be a good glimpse into your posting style and character.
  • Finally, provide a brief response to any two of the questions from the “Questions and Answers” section towards the end of the character creation chapter (pages 108-109).
  • I am looking for a maximum of six players.
  • Initial recruitment will be open until Friday, December 4th at 10pm EST.

A note on Malkavians: as someone who himself has occasional mental health issues (usually, but not always mild) please be respectful if you’re interested in playing a Malkavian. They exist, though there are not a lot in my version of the DMV region specifically because it can be a difficult subject.

  • Any questions, fire away. I'm looking at putting together a nice looking sheet format for aliases and I'd be happy to check out any suggestions on that front.

    I really shouldn't.

    I really shouldn't.

What the hell, with so few games to play right now, I'm gonna anyway.

That said, I don't have Revised any more, but I do have PDF's of both the V20 'twentieth anniversary' edition & the 5th Ed version...

Yeah, have to resist the urge of playing a ritualistic tremere with alternate thaumaturgies :)

    Interested.

V20 isn't all that much different than revised for those who don't have access to revised. (Not an issue for me, I've got every edition they've made).

Definitely a blood magic junkie, and with this being nominally a Cam game, that leads me back to the familiar arms of House and Clan Tremere.

As far as a sheet format, here's what I've used on this site. Link

I'll give a character concept some thought over the next day or so and come back with a submission.

    ugh...dotting for interest...

    Definitely interested.

I have always like tremere the best, but if you would prefer not to have two from the same clan I can adapt pretty easily.

If you've got an idea in mind for a good Tremere character, go for it. I can adjust - as long as I don't have to go with a Toreador.

    ;)

ST, Any thoughts on the independent clans (outside of the Giovanni and Assamite you metion in your document)? Bloodlines?

Different books should be fine as long as you're not looking at the original first edition. It may make page numbers wonky, but IIRC the system itself was largely unchanged once WtA 2nd came out.

I would say it's less likely that I would select two players belonging to the same clan, but fundamentally it is more about how the character will fit in overall. Besides, clans have their own internal issues and factions so two Tremere could be very different from one another.

As for indie clans other than the two mentioned: feel free to throw some ideas together, just remember that I'm looking for characters who will fit in at least on the surface. So you might be able to get me to pick something truly obscure and less known like a Bushi or Samedi, but a Blood Brother or whatever those weird first edition Sabbat mutants were called would likely be cut from consideration immediately. I actually have a couple of side stories that involve some obscure stuff.

Folks may have noticed that I forgot one bit of editing when I got the gazetteer together. I'll fix that later tonight!

I actually was the first to say I’d build a Tremere, but honestly I don’t mind the competition at all and think we could even have builds different enough that the party would still be fun. I’m still focusing in the prelude, though, so I don’t really have much of a build yet. I have pretty much all books from old WoD since I was the one usually hosting the games to my local group (vampire and changeling most of the time, sometimes werewolf and mage, and once wraith). I just love obscure references in vampire :) particularly for tremere, assamite, malkavian and lasombra.

Apologies. I suppose I misread your comment of "...resist the urge of playing a ritualistic tremere with alternate thaumaturgies." as intent to go a different direction.

@ST - As you've said, you intend to use revised. Are there particular books from the revised edition that are allowed/forbidden? I am specifically asking about the two Blood Magic books from revised.

While the Tremere idea is still percolating in my mind, there is also a Setite brewing as well. Would the Paths of Akhu (Setite Sorcery) be available?

Vinccenso Pruffi, born to second generation Italian immigrants to the Chicago area in the beginning of the twentieth century, he was an unusually studious child & was expected to join the church by all who knew him growing up.
Unfortunately, he attracted the attention of a monster far more terrifying than the most corrupt of pedophile priests. Malachius Volk, recently re-assigned to the Chicago Chantry soon after rousing from a long torpor in Vienna after a successful hunt of one of the last of the Salubri found himself drawn to something about the boy.
Manipulating the parish priest into grooming young Vinccenso for the priesthood among other things, Malachius took advantage of Vinccenso's youth & inexperience to interpose himself as a knowledgeable figure in matters of scholarship & the world. With time, Vinccenso soon came to view him as an authority figure even moreso than his own father or priest. As the years went on, Vinccenso would grow ever more entangled within Malachius' web. Finally, with only a few months before Vinccenso would begin seminary, Malachius had received permission of the Seven to embrace Vinccenso as a childe of House & Clan Tremere.

Needless to say, this was a revelation of an entirely different nature than Vinccenso could ever have expected; for Malachius, though so debauched, dissolute & degraded from his centuries not only as a Kindred but also as a hunter & devourer of Salubri as to be almost a mockery of humanity, was also long experienced at concealing his inhumanity, particularly from those who would be long in his company.

On the eve of Vinccenso's embrace, he & Malachius took a train ride to Gary, where Malachius introduced him to a number of odd nocturnal acquaintances, hinting that several of these individuals would prove influential in his later life. The following day, Vinccenso wandered Gary's streets, contemplating his future & praying at the parish church.

The following day, Mr & Mrs Pruffi received the sobering news that their youngest son had died in a car crash, his body so mangled & burned that it was unrecognizable.

The truth of course was that While Vinccenso did die that night, as certain 'Wits' would have it, 'he got better'. This was in the years between the end of the Great War & the beginning of the Great Depression & the idea of questioning the authorities in such a matter had yet to really catch on.

    DM Dickie:
What follows concerns Vinccenso's Dark Secret, consequently, I considered it appropriate that only you read it, at least until you decide whether you are going to allow it in the game or not.
Little did any of the parties know, that Malachius' victims might also play their part, for every Salubri that Malachius had consumed continued on in a way within his own diseased soul. Continued on, and plotted for their release from such a degenerate prison. Indeed, the compulsion Malachius felt for Vinccenso was the result of the Salubri shards still within him sensing the potential within the boy.
That night, as Vinccenso felt his own life flooding into Malachius & something else enter him in it's stead, he heard something, a susseration of voices asking him
'is this truly what you want?'
    He answered the voices 'No'.

The consequences were imperceptible at first. Vinccenso was no more or less traumatized by his death & new un-life than any other whelp. He showed no more or less aptitude for the manipulations & Disciplines of the Clan than any other newly embraced whelp. Even his introspective withdrawal was hardly unusual for a newly embraced child of the house. Of course, the third eye which only opened when he was completely alone & able to focus solely upon the secrets the voices whispered to him was...
    unprecedented,
to say the least, within the 'publicly' accessible tomes within the Chantry. Over the nights & years since then, Vinccenso has come to understand that his own, personal, Masquerade is just as necessary & just as uncertain as that which conceals the Kindred from the Kine.

    Grand Lodge

if i submit a character, likely going with a Brujah...

If it's from official material, even different editions (since the biggest differences are mechanics), it is fair game. Of course, a FoS might have a lot of difficulty being trusted, but they're not an outright enemy of the Camarilla, and they sometimes play nice with others. That's kind of the important thing.

BTW, I added the missing paragraph to the setting brief last night. I am working on a map using Google maps for the region. Folks could actually find their havens right down to street view if they wanted, lol.

That example from Talomyr's link is pretty good. I might want to tweak the class field some (include a space for current effects and health for instance) but that's a good template to use.

@ST - Sorry I keep asking so many questions. What do you see the mix of your intended story being? 33.3%/33.3%/33.3% combat/investigation/social? More heavily titled to social or combat?

Just don't want to make a character that will be useless if I happen to be selected.

    It's fine, lol, ask away.

I'm shooting for a balance between those aspects in the main storyline and with the subplots and side stories. Obviously, player-driven plots and events may be tailored for a specific character, but overall balance is what I'm shooting for.

Wow, I haven't played Vampire in ages. And I like the pre-cell phone setting, makes it all a bit more gritty. I have a couple concepts I am playing around with, when in the 1990's is the game going to start? Just don't want to make references in a backstory to historic events that haven't happened yet.

Ok I love this game and I will find something to do

I haven't settled on an exact date, which will be fairly arbitrary really, but it would be the early 90s. I am leaning towards early 1991.

I got a Toreador in mind for this.

    Starting Blood Pool: 1d10 ⇒ 7

    DM Dickie:

I have a concept going with a domain of the wharves and instead of a mansion having a large sailing ship for my merits and playing a former pirate who did well and made a home for himself. Somebody who used to be an English privateer sort of fellow in the bounding sea. Going to be spending alot of freebies in backgrounds. Allies, retainers, herd, generation, resources. I haven't focused in on a clan yet I am currently playing a Nosferatu in a long running game and a gangrel in a tabletop game gone virtual so those are out. Hmmm what to do. My sire would be English. I can see this going a couple ways.

Hi GM, I thought about building a Ventrue or Malkavian to open space for the guys that want to play Tremere, to be more on the social/face side of things. I like Malks a lot and thought about building one around PTSD from an old war while he was alive, but I’m thinking on avoiding it out of respect (being a veteran myself) and to not step in any toes. Regardless, I have a some questions if you don’t mind:

    - Are we building only neophytes or a little older would be okay? Not ancilla old, but you know what I mean... Hundred and something, two hundred tops.

    - Can I build a Lasombra antitribu? I believe they were already “accepted” in the Camarilla by the period you mention the game happens.

    - Would it be okay to build someone actually a lot older, but that was “put to sleep” while still not too old and awaken recently? I Would keep him max eighth generation and on the power level of the party, but this would open the possibility of some interesting anachronism.

As mentioned, I’ll build my character more on the social side of things, so hopefully my colleagues can cover with the combat side and whatnot :) if we need more combat focused and you’d be okay with it, maybe I could build a more urban Gangrel considering the timeline you’re thinking (they were still part of the Camarilla).

Like a pirate ship or like a modern vessel? Because either is possible with enough resources, but one stands out like a sore thumb, and I don't know that either would get a ton of play. But if you're into the idea go for it. Rich people do have funny hobbies sometimes =P

    Lasombra antitribu is totally acceptable.

To the general question about age: the overall experience in the world should be on the lower end to reflect stats, so it does help to account for that (torpor, self-imposed exile, time spent feral, whatever). Without dots in the status background you're still pretty low on the totem pole. Too high of a status isn't recommended since the characters are intended to be making their way into the community, not already established.

Oh! My only experience with Vampire was my short lived attempt to DM a game of it! That being said, I would be incredibly interested in playing in a game. I'll get something up and running ASAP, but I'm currently thinking about playing a Nosferatu, or a Malk. Exciting times!

    Bloodpool: 1d10 ⇒ 2
I got something up and running! Very exciting. Please let me know if I made any errors, or if I'm doing something that'll come back to bite me later, I do not have a lot of experience with the system, but I've read all the rules a few times! I love feedback and conversation in general. Profile found here Nosferatu information broker, scrapper, rich spender, and people in high places looking for him to fail!

Background+questions? Sort of? Hope it's good:
Money and power were the two things that Vinny Clark had sought while he was alive, and now that he was dead it was no different. He likes to turn one into the other on the regular, giving catiff and others less fortunate than himself a nice place to stay, freshen up for a while, and then head out, owing Vinny a favor or two. Favors that could be turned in for cash, which could go back into making more favors which could go back into... well you get the point. He'd been doing it for nearly 5 years now, and made a pretty penny for himself. Sure he was even uglier than the before times, but really, that's not saying much. But Vinny's real claim to fame was information. You wanted something known, and Vinny could find it out for you, no questions asked, other than the price. Vinny'd always had a magnetic personality, and was difficult to pull one over, but sometimes his sense of decency gets the best of him, and he lets himself be haggled down to a price worth pennies on his dollar. Oh well, good things come to those who wait, right?

Despite his lavish lifestyle, Vinny enjoys the company of his fellow Nosferatu in the sewers too much to spend too much time in his own houses. At least that's what he'd say if you asked him. In truth, the protection offered by spending time down in that dark dingy place was well worth it. It wasn't like Vinny could smell anyway, and he made sure to take a shower before going anywhere important. Usually anyway. Depends on if you're worth Vinny's time, now doesn't it?

Why the need for protection? You're a nosy one aren'cha? Well, ol' Vinny here bit off more than he could chew, more than once. The Ventrue still resent that time that he dredged up some embarrassing evidence on their top brass, and his perceived willingness to sell out to anyone (even if he was willing to give his elders his services for free) mean that there's no love for Vinny even in the higher ups of his own clan. Cap it off with the fact that he's avoiding his own crazy b**** of a sire, who keeps trying to get him into her plotting and schemes and well... it's a good thing that it's hard to keep Vinny down, because a lot of angry folks have an interest in doing it. Tough as nails, strong as a hammer is Vinny's motto, and considering he does a lot of his own reconnaissance, it's probably a good one to have. When it does come out to a scrap, Vinny likes to be prepared, utilizing a veritable arsenal of weaponry, but ultimately preferring to use holds and clinches to get in close and use his strength to his advantage.

Vinny likes to think that he's to back down, and it is true that he's quite willing to fall back and let others get the spotlight. However he's also hot tempered, and quick to fly into a rage, quite a dangerous state to be in for a vampire. Still, he's loyal and brave, and has managed to maintain quite a bit of his humanity, finding a liberation in being so hideously ugly on the outside, and instead trying to work on making his thoughts and actions beautiful. Still willing to scrap it up though if the situation requires it.

What lies in Vinny's future? What a good question! He'd like to keep himself busy, building up money, power, and goodwill until everyone relies on him. Then, well, it's good to be on top isn't it? But it takes a lot of effort to stay there. Better to find someone else to work for, always be part of the prize to be claimed, not the king to be toppled. He'd like to go out, make some mortal friends, but he hasn't quite yet mastered appearance altering, and in his current state that's just a pipe dream. Oh well, guess there's always time to finish school now, if he ever gets around to it.

    A night in the life:
Huntin's getting harder these days. More cameras every goddamn day. More streetlights, urban sprawl, gentrification... Vinny cut off his own train of thought. Some a that's my fault though, innit? Keep building up the area. Iffin I keep this up, I'll be out of a place to hunt. He kept moving then, looking for a shady ally. He knew where he could find one after all, and then all he needed to do was wait, and blend into the shadows. Someone'd be along sooner or later.
It had been a shitty night for Vinny. One of his tennants had gone into a frenzy, damaged a bunch of his property, and nearly ripped some poor Toreador's head off. Plus he had heard his sire was back in town again, and that always made him on edge. Worst of all, he hadn't had a new request for information in almost a week. If this keeps up, I'll be out on the street myself he muses grumpily, staring at the homeless person sitting under a streetlight. He wasn't that desperate for blood. Yet.
It was then that he realized that he was no longer alone in the alleyway. He cursed himself for not noticing sooner. A little girl was peering at him from a trashcan that was tipped on it's side. Her face was bloodstained, and her fangs glistened. F*** Vinny hated vamp kids, they freaked him out. But he put his best smile on his hideous face, and said, "Can I help you, little miss? You got a place to stay?" The girl just stared at him, and Vinny steeled himself, putting on his most reassuring voice. "How old are you then, hun?" The little girl's eyes flashed defiantly as she said, "Nearly 6." Aw, goddamn it. Goddamn. She's freshly turned, in't she? I go out for a quick bite to eat, have myself a good time, and I run into some little whelp who's probably just ate her mum or something, all because some folk don't have the courtesy to clean up after 'emselves. "Almost 6! Wow, you're almost all grown up then!" He was surprised that the little girl wasn't terrified of his face. Maybe she'd seen or done worse. She smiled at him then, and crawled out of the trashcan. God it freaked him out how she moved. Wasn't natural. He'd take her to Count Tran, she could be his problem. Hard to get kids to feel any sense of gratitude, and yet... "Do you wanna come with me? I can get you somethin' to eat if yer hungry." The little girl nodded emphatically, and then frowned. "My mommy told me I wasn't to follow strangers."
"Smart woman then! But don'tcha worry none. Name's Vinny, but friends call me Vin, and you can too. If you tell me your name, we won't be strangers no more, and we can getcha something to eat." The little girl furled her brow, trying to make sense of what Vinny had said. "I'm Claire," she said. "Claire. Lovely name." Vinny said, and held out his hand. The little girl giggled as she shook it, and it took all of Vinny's composure not to flinch.
They walked out of the ally then, to one of Vinny's safe houses. Not one of the secret ones mind you. He wasn't sure what the girl would remember, and he remembered that she could just be lying to him. He had some blood stashed away there, it would do for the time being. As the girl gorged herself on blood bags, Vinny pondered what was the best thing to do. He couldn't just leave her out in the streets, that would be foolish, irresponsible, and dangerous to his slice of life here. No, it was best if someone official dealt with it. At least the count wasn't Ventrue. And you never know! Maybe having a spooky kid who was friendly towards you could be useful someday, if she remembered. He could put aside his personal distaste, and see what he could do for her. As he watched hungrily as the girl devoured his blood supply, he sighed. It really just wasn't going well for him tonight. But he wasn't going to let that stop him from turning disadvantage to opportunity.

My goal would be to have a domain granted by the prince being the wharves and have a mansion there in the form of a yacht and the pirate would be someone historical but obscure and whom certain people who have very long lives might hate being an English privateer and all.

I would love to play a Lasombra antitribu, relatively clueless about everything Kindred related and behind the 8 ball from the start for his unkosher clan, with even more fun to come when he discovers he's not even from that tribe but an even more hunted bunch.

    Brian, amnesiac Lasombra

    Background:
Brian has a hard time recalling the details of mortal life. He thinks this is likely the result of being thoroughly Dominated at some point, but he has no real idea why or when he was Embraced or most of the earliest details of his undead existence.

From what he can piece together, he was possibly a mortal in 19th century London. He can recall fragmented scenes of sooty walls and seemingly constant rain, horse drawn carriages, his family[?] - wife, children, and maybe a career as an academic or clergy, a barrister? He’s never sure that what he thinks he’s remembering isn’t just a literal dream he’s latched onto and built into a fantasy life. But even now he has a love of philosophy and books that speaks to his probable history with paper and writing.

He can also seemingly recall bits and pieces of his sire, Philip. Brooding and fairly stereotypical for a Lasombra, the snatches he recalls of his sire bring to mind his use as a tool - no words of praise, no treatment as even a nominal Childe, Brian assumes he must have been Embraced as useful to Philip in some unusual manner. He often has hazy dreams of Philip demanding unpleasant tasks of him, demands he feels powerless to resist.

The day to day reality of continuing his unlife, trying to help those around him and keep the Beast at bay, makes the details of his distant past of little practical or even emotional importance. Brian has left that past far behind in every meaningful sense. Digging into it just isn’t a project he thinks is worth the effort.

He has recently thought that if he were a more faithful person, maybe he could have found God through this trial. After all, a curse from God couldn't be much plainer proof of His existence.

But he’s a more coldly analytical person, needing to think things through and eventually coming to very clear conclusions, but nevertheless nothing resembling the burning torch of Faith. Having true and ultimate faith in a deity that is either perfectly fine with the obvious injustice of the universe on the one hand, or on the other hand simply unaware or unable to stop injustice from happening, was never anything he could manage to achieve.

    Sample Post:
Brian emerged from the shipping container in which he'd spent the past few nights. His needs were few and ostentation simply wasn't one of them. Maintaining a shipping company and drifting between its offices had proven to be an absorbing and undemanding existence. It helped that he was able to find his nightly meals for little more trouble than the cost of a six pack and a slight headache for that night's donor from among the graveyard shift dock staff. The night was young, and he had a lot to do.

Hmmm, I was really tired when I was writing up the backstory, and I missed the bit where we were not supposed to be particularly established, would you like me to re-write it, @DM Dickie?

    Consider myself Bloody interested. ^^

Yeah Vinny, go for it. I won't really have time to actually dig into submissions until later this week anyway and it is still a while before the cutoff.

Hi DM Dickie! Archlich here. As squid made a Lasombra, I decided to go for something completely different - a very unusual approach to Toreador. Full prelude and background details in the profile, including a summary (as I reckon his prelude and aftermath are considerably large). I'm still working on a sheet, since I usually do it last. I hope you appreciate the creativity in trying something a little exotic with a very common clan :)

    Forgot to roll.

    Bloodpool: 1d10 ⇒ 8

Ok here is the character for Edelsmirge

    Scarab Sages

    bp: 1d10 ⇒ 5

Lots of non-Traditional Cam clans represented. Going back to Tremere. I'll have a submission up this evening.

    Scarab Sages

Talomyr, I have a good Tremere connection if you would like to know me or my occultlibrary

That very well might work, given he intention to have my character be the Provost Emeritus of Esotertic and Occult History and Studies at the Smithsonian Institute (Reporting to the Under-secretary for Science and Research) and working primarily at the Smithsonian Institution Libraries and Archives and/or the National Museum of Natural History.

Not so sure about a Tremere and a Tzimisce getting along though ;)

Honestly, they wouldn’t. Lasombra antitribu are fine for the Camarilla, Tzimisce are not (they’re mostly sabbath and some independent). Not trying to shoot Gunnar down, but I don’t think that’s the kind of game being proposed (a literal “anything goes”)... My apologies, but I wouldn’t want to play in a Camarilla-typed group with a Tzimisce in it. I’m hoping that we draw a line somewhere. Lasombra weren’t part of the Camarilla on the period the game passes, but they eventually join so I get why the GM is open to them. I believe he’d be open to gangrel too, despite the fact they leave the Camarilla later (they were part of it on the early 90s).

They're the spooky fleshwarpers, right? As I said, I'm not super familiar with Vampire; just very willing to learn. I seem to remember the book at least saying that most if not all of them use paths other than humanity, and that's not really my cup of tea. I get if people who've been playing for a long time want to try something new; I just haven't had a chance to try the regular product.

    New Background?:
Money and power were the two things that Vincient Clark prized amongst all else, and being dead certainly wasn't going to slow him down. Sure he's a bit uglier now that when he was alive, and that's saying something, but Vinny is certain that he's going to make it big some day. Money and power. That's all that matters. At least that's what he tells himself. In truth, he used to wonder what his legacy would be when he died, and if anyone would care. Turns out the answer was not a whole lot, and not really. Now that leaves a lot of free time, and Vinny wants to make something of himself. More than that, he's afraid that when he perishes the final death, there will be no one who remembers him fondly then either. Well, he might be dammned, but he'd be twice dammned before he let that happen again. Becoming kindred has perfected the talents that Vinny cultivated in life, prefering to rely on information and blackmail instead of brute force; brain's ain't nothin' without brawn though. There's a certain charm to Vinny's straightforwardness, though, and it's difficult to not like him if you actually talk with him, butt ugly as he might be.

Vinny's relationship with his sire is... difficult. He's moved at least 3 times to avoid her. She's a dreamer, a visionary, and unfortunatly batshit crazy, and just convincing enough to make you forget that fact. Vinny owes his wealth to her, setting up a scam where they saved a rich buisnessman's life, and were rewarded handsomely for the job done. That was one of the successful jobs. Most of the others involved dragging oneself out of the street before the sun came up, and regenerating limbs afterward. Or fleeing London. No, Vinny's taken the money and run, hoping to cut in on the Nosferatu information web, and make a splash. Unfortunately, his sire's reputation preceeds him, and one particularly eventful weekend of the two of them working together led to the Ventrue wishing them both dead. Ah well.

If you asked Vinny why he wants to establish safe houses for Catiff, he'd answer so that they owe him a favor. Favors can be turned in for money, and money is always nice. More money means you can buy favors, and so it goes, onwards. Really though, he'd like to leave something lasting behind him. Of course, he'd never admit that, and his push to help the catiff and the higher generations often generates some scruitney by those in positions of power above him. Which is basically everyone. He'd like to make some new mortal aquantinces, but looking like he does makes that nigh impossible, and he hasn't quite yet got the hang of transforming one's apperance, finding blending into the shadows very useful in his line of work.

Vinny likes being a vampire, for the most part. Livin' in the sewers doesn't bother him too much, he doesn't have a sense of smell, and he usually showers before going some place important. Being hideously deformed actually suits him. Instead of worrying about making his outside beautiful like many other vampires, he tries to make his thoughts and actions beautiful instead. Recently he's taken up pottery. He's absolutely rubbish at it, but it's something to do. Beautiful actions is hard to do though, when you sell information and skulk about for a living. Sure he could and rest on his mortal wealth, but where would the fun be in that? No, Vinny wants the respect of his clan elders, and he won't rest until he really feels he can call himself a true member of Kindred society. In fact, he's beginning to suspect that his eagerness to impress is getting him sent on more and more dangerous missions. He don't mind too much though. While not the most nimble fighter, Vinny excels in clinches and holds, and although his strength is nowhere near the upper echelons of vampiric might, it's nothing to scoff at either. He does tend to get kind of carried away though, losing his self control in situations of stress. Still, he's brave and fiercely loyal; he'd rather die again than lose face.

I've tried to rewrite my background to be more in line with the game, I feel like it's lost something, so I'd read both. The style posting shouldn't actually be changed very much. Very excited, and even if I don't get in, I've worked with a lot of the applicants before, and I know they'll create a great game!

    Starting Blood: 1d10 ⇒ 7

This is Talomyr's submission. All the relevant details around the character are in the profile.

    Example Post:

Gloved hands carefully flip through the Institute's latest acquisition around the nature of the Roman Mithraic cult when his work is disturbed by his Sire, Tiberius.

"Alexander." the voice in his head says.

Longing to continue with his research, but unwilling - perhaps unable to deny his Sire, Alexander responds. "Yes, my Sire?"

"Come to the Chantry at once...there is something that needs to be done, and you will have the opportunity to learn more by doing so." Tiberius commands.

"Yes, sire. I will leave at once."

The opportunity to learn something more, something that he would have never dreamed possible as a mortal, Alexander leaves for the Chantry.

Arriving at his Sire's door, he asks "How may I be of service to you, the House, and Clan, my Sire?

Are setites strictly anti-camarilla? Or could one fit into this game?

Are Followers of Set strictly Sabbat, or could one fit into this game?

@MisterLurch - Setites (aka Followers of Set) are an independent clan. The Serpents of the Light are the Setite-derived Sabbat members.

I was considering building a Setite for this game, and DM Dickie didn't seem to have a problem with it, but did caution:

    DM Dickie wrote:
Of course, a FoS might have a lot of difficulty being trusted, but they're not an outright enemy of the Camarilla, and they sometimes play nice with others. That's kind of the important thing.

    Scarab Sages

If one looks carefully at my character one will see I am playing a revenant from the Ducheski family who was embraced just prior to the war with the Tremere in eastern Europe. The Ducheski's betrayed the Tzimisce and went over to the Tremere and became the Tremere's librarians and such as ghouls. Using this previous world of darkness canon from ghouls and revenants and other books I took merits and flaws which reflect this history. So while I am a Tzimisce I do not have any of their disciplines and am an ally and librarian for the Tremere.

FYI - I forgot when I posted the recruitment thread that the original cutoff date hadn't been updated from my notes to the post. I had intended to get it up a few days before Thanksgiving rather than right during the weekend. As a result:

Submissions will remain open until Sunday at 10pm EST.

I would have let it stand, but I'm a few days behind where I want to be anyway so it works out.

Tzim are trickier than most, but not an automatic rejection so long as they have some hook. And yeah, Archlich's interpretation regarding Lasombra and Gangrel is pretty much my mindset.

I'm not going for perfect real world or setting historical accuracy, but a little closer to the sitcom "The Goldbergs" view of the 80s. "It was 1980-something and..."

    Scarab Sages

If my submission will take me out of the running or you would rather see something else let me know

I've only glanced so far (at all submissions). Just based on what I saw I think you qualify as having the aforementioned "hook" to at least have a solid reason to be trusted, assuming at least one of the local Tremere would vounch for you.

I have been reading about the Followers of Set quite a bit over the last few days. I think I want to try one out. I will come up with a suitable submission later today. After sleeping.
