The Paladin Code of Abadar:

- I will always protect the innocent, by helping them protect themselves where I can and stepping in personally where I cannot.

- I will always act with honor and honesty. I cannot truly represent my faith if people cannot put their faith in me.

- I respect all lawful authority and understand that different places have laws that I may not agree with, but work for those who reside within. If a law is unlawful, I will work to the best of my ability to show them a better law or way.

- I am a protector of the roadways and keep travelers from harm. No matter their destinations or goals, if they are peaceable and legitimate travelers who harm no others on the road, I will ensure that they pass safely.

- Bandits are a plague. Under my will they come to justice. If they will not come willingly before the law, where they can protest for justice in the courts, they will come under the power of my sword.

- Corruption in the courts is the greatest corruption of civilization. Without confidence in justice, citizens cannot believe in their countries, and civilization begins to disappear. I will root out corruption wherever I find it, and if a system is fundamentally flawed, I will work to aid citizens by reforming or replacing it.

- I am an aid to the markets. I ensure equitable trade between merchants and citizens. Theft on either side is intolerable.

- I make opportunities, and teach others to recognize them. When I aid others, I open the way for them, but will not carry them—they must take responsibility.

Knight of Coins:

Source Merchant's Manifest pg. 28
Servants of gods who revere wealth, knights of coins promote fair trade and stable commerce between cities and between nations. Many of these knights are Abadarans, and some have also taken the sacred shield archetype. Regardless, knights of coins know that a prosperous city can uplift and enrich more people than pious prayers alone.

Class Skills: A knight of coins adds Appraise, Knowledge (local), Perception, and Use Magic Device to her list of class skills. She gains a number of skill ranks equal to 4 + her Intelligence modifier at each level, instead of a number of skill ranks equal to 2 + her Intelligence modifier.

This alters the paladin’s class skills and skill ranks per level.

Eye for Forgeries (Sp): At will, a knight of coins can concentrate on a single item within 30 feet as a move action. When she does, the knight of coins can detect if it is magical, as per the spell detect magic. The knight of coins cannot concentrate on more than one item in this way at a time.

This replaces detect evil.

Blessing of Prosperity (Su): A knight of coins is a patron of wealth and seeks to even the playing field for those who have unfair economic disadvantages. At 3rd level and every 6 levels thereafter, the paladin can select a blessing (see Blessings below). By expending a use of lay on hands, the knight of coins can instead grant a boon to herself or a creature touched as a standard action. These boons do not stack with themselves or with blessings from another knight of coins. A blessing of prosperity lasts up to 1 hour, though the knight of coins who bestowed it can end a blessing’s benefits early (whether it affects her or another creature) as a free action. Using this ability requires only one free hand and is a standard action, unless the knight of coins targets herself, in which case it is a swift action.

If she knows multiple blessings of prosperity, the knight of coins can bestow multiple blessings on a single target as part of the action and the expenditure of a use of lay on hands required to use this ability. If she bestows multiple different blessings, these blessings are cumulative. For example, a 9th-level knight of coins’ blessing of prosperity ability might grant a +4 sacred bonus on Appraise and Sense Motive checks as well as a +4 sacred bonus on Perception checks and to CMD against disarm and steal combat maneuvers.

A knight of coins who takes the Extra Mercy feat can gain an extra blessing of prosperity instead of an extra mercy. Once a blessing of prosperity is chosen, it can’t be changed. A character who has benefited from a blessing of prosperity cannot benefit from that same blessing again (whether bestowed by the same knight of coins or another knight of coins) for 24 hours.

Blessings: The following blessings are available to a knight of coins.

The target adds an extra 10% to the gp value gained when selling off treasure (normally 50% of the item’s original value). This blessing cannot result in selling treasure for more than 100% of its original value.
The target gains a +4 sacred bonus on Appraise and Sense Motive checks.
The target gains a +4 sacred bonus on Perception checks and to CMD against disarm and steal combat maneuvers.
The target gains a +4 sacred bonus on Craft, Perform, and Profession checks.
The target can use locate object as a spell-like ability once, using the knight of coins’ class level as the caster level.
The target can treat one settlement as having its base value and purchase limit increased by 30%. The target must choose the affected settlement when the knight of coins bestows this blessing.
The target can treat one settlement as being one size category larger for the purposes of determining available magic items. The target must choose the affected settlement when the knight of coins bestows this blessing.
This replaces the mercies gained at 3rd, 9th, and 15th levels.

Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!

background:

Gunnarson is a young man in his twenties who was born of Oppara to his father Gunnar, a carriage driver who drives the carriage across the roads to Oppara and back to Lyon's Brook with his four horse team. His mother Lydia runs the small horse farm outside of Oppara and works with the stables in Lyon's Brook to provide studs and animal feed and bedding in the form of hay with his three older brothers Alandes, Danny, and Sol. Alandes tends the farm with Danny and Sol rides the roads with his father leaving Gunnarson who his parents sent to school. Gunnarson is the spitting image of his uncle Granos who left the farm many years ago and became a stable master in Lyon's Brook. Recently Sol has left the family farm to help Granos and apprentice under him since Granos has no children and as Gunnarson has graduated school he is now riding coach with his father.
Gunnarson has short cropped black hair, green eyes, and is found to be above average looking by most. He has a strong well proportioned build and is healthy and quick with an easy smile.
Gunnar is most confused when visiting home for his attraction to Oppia Eburnus whom he had an illicit affair with prior to joining the ranks of paladinhood. He would bring hay to her mill only to find himself having relations with Oppia. He was glad when Sol went to Lyon's Brook two years ago so he could work with Granos on the farm leaving Gunnerson to now take the carriage to Lyon's Brook. This happened when Gunnar was twenty and he is twenty two now.

Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.

Gunnar wishes to understand his long dormant abilities and bring them under control as a sorcerer as well as prove to his father that he is of worth. Gunnar also feels a strange pull to the mountains near Lyon's Brook each time he travels there and wishes to explore this further.

I am going to go paladin 2 and sorcerer in order to get to dragon disciple.

Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!

The secret Gunnar does not know is that Oppia Eburnus is a family enemy because she loved his uncle Granos and was spurned by him. She had a philter of love that she slipped into his drink as she loathes her husband but tolerates him as he makes her a passable living in town. The spring festival found Oppia ina few too many cups o ale and she mistook Gunnar for Granos and slipped the potion in his drink.

Gunnar's secret is that he loves Oppia and finds her very attractive and is embarrassed and ashamed of their affair and has accepted his loss of that love now as unrequited.

Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.

Gunnerson is the Stranger in Town so does not know many from his few infrequent visits.

Oppia is a family enemy as she has unrequited love for Granos and has taken it out on Gunnarson.

Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.

Gunnarson is an avid worshipper of Abadar from living in town finding the order of society and travel to Oppara and back to make sense to him and as such can be seen wearing a holy symbol to Abadar around his neck at all times. Gunnarson tithes 10% of his personal earnings to the church.

When nervous or embarrassed Gunnarson has a tell of working his fingers through his hair and looking away for a moment from the topic as if to gather himself.

Gunnarson enjoys his work as a coach driver and prefers to use javelins from the coach against bandits if needed but will only do so if they attack which vexes his father terribly and which his father doesnt understand.
