vampire vs anti-magic

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

What happens if a vampire is reduced to 0 hp in an anti-magic field or dead magic zone (and can't go into gaseous form)? Do they just die normally?

Not immediately. The vampire has a 2 hour time limit to reach its coffin; an AMF would make this journey rather difficult, given its duration is 10 min/level...

"Elementals, undead, and outsider are likewise unaffected unless summoned. These creatures’ spell-like or supernatural abilities may be temporarily nullified by the field."

Horribly written spell. Does this mean summoned undead may lose supernatural abilities and other undead are unaffected, or all undead may lose supernatural abilities. And if so, which abilities do they lose, since it says "may"?

Not instantly, because you need to stake em, but they are unable to flee in gaseous form in an AMF.

The line you are referring to is that AMF doesn't instantly dismantle constructs where magic is used initially in their creation. Summoned Undead instantly wink out of existence(until the effect ends). Created Undead can survive in an AMF.

Supernatural Abilities wrote:

Supernatural abilities are magical but not spell-like. Supernatural abilities are not subject to spell resistance and do not function in areas where magic is suppressed or negated (such as an antimagic field).

AMF suppresses all supernatural abilities unless the ability itself says it functions in an AMF.

What happens to the vampire until then? Does it lie there helpless (as if unconscious) until it gets at least 1 hp? (this is assuming the anti-magic/dead magic lasts the full 2 hours.

Yes. After the two hours are up, it ceases to be an animated undead and is merely a corpse once more.

Considering the fact that a vampire reduced to 0 HP automatically assumes gaseous form it is possible that is there natural state. Many creatures are able to alter their from, but when incapacitated assume their true form. If that were the case a vampire in a ATF would assume their gaseous form as soon as it entered it.

Only problem is that their ability to assume gaseous form is a supernatural ability. That cannot occur in an anti-magic field. Vampires have the ability to assume several different forms, so I wouldn't try to argue that their gaseous form is their true form.

I mean when it's at 0 hp and in the field but the two hours aren't up yet. What happens to it until then?

It lies there unconscious and unable to fast heal.

It lies there helpless, continually trying and failing to become gaseous. If the AMF drops, it will become gaseous right then.
