Joining an Evil Age of Ashes Party - Character Help?

Age of Ashes

I’m coming in early on: they've only just completed Chapter 1 of Book 1, but it’s clear to the GM the tone is broadly comic evil, not gross or nasty. So far they are:

Tyrant Champion (Asmodeus)
Curse Witch
Battle Oracle

What do y’all think? Some kind’ve evil Druid, to help tank and heal? A rogue to get that sweet sneak? Curious both for optimizing the team as well as for a class you know is fun, or relevant, in this AP.

Honestly, just make a character that you will enjoy playing. If you do that, everything else will work out.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

From an optimization perspective, that party is missing a skill character and maybe an archer. So Rogue would be fine, but an archer Investigator might be better on a purely mechanical level (as Rogues make poor to mediocre archers and Investigators make very good ones). Either way you could easily invest in Medicine to be a good secondary healer (in fact, the Forensic Medicine Investigator specializes in doing exactly that really well).

In terms of fun, that's really up to you. I think an Investigator conspiracy theorist using the Truth Seeker Background would be great fun, but it's a personal choice.

In terms of 'fit the AP'...the party you have already listed cannot complete the AP as written. Period. Not to get into spoilers, but a major plot point involves freeing slaves, and with a Champion of Asmodeus in the party that isn't happening. So your GM is clearly going completely off the rails from the published work in terms of theme and non-combat content and I can't help you there.
