Stalwart Defender and "Cannot Move"

Rules Questions

So a Stalwart Defender can't move when in a Defensive Stance with a few exceptions, like taking a five-foot step at "ninth" level, Lunge, and some third thing.
What about Combat Patrol?
It increases your threaten range, but do you have to move?
I suppose this also applies to the Stonelord archetype.

Any help is appreciated.

Combat Patrol increases your threatened range but not your weapon's reach. Therefore you DO have to move to make AoOs with Combat Patrol.

There are exceptions to this, like stacking SNAP SHOT, IMPROVED SNAP SHOT and Combat Patrol to allow you to shoot anyone within 20 feet (or whatever) with a bow.

But no, if you're trying to use a Pole-arm with Combat Patrol then it won't work with Defensive stance.

That's rough, but fair.

Can you expand on the Snap Shot bit, I'm not sure what you're saying there.

Logically that make sense. But I don't think that's how the abilities work via the RAW.

The only thing reach does is define your threatened area. Combat Patrol says you "may" move not that you have to move. If you have to move to take advantage of the expanded threatened area with a polearm then you would similarly have to move to take advantage of the expanded threatened area with a bow.

Nah this was a dev post confirming how it worked. I'd have trouble finding it, but that's what they said.

Essentially the "range" of a polearm is 10 feet, so you can hit people that far away, while the "range" on a longbow is 110 feet (technically 1,100 feet is their max range).

So with Combat Patrol, a Longspear and +10BAB you'd threaten put to 20 feet, but you'd have to move out 10 feet if you want to take advantage of that. The name of the feat is "Combat Patrol", it's assumed you're moving to make the attacks (also once you've moved your threatened area moves with you just FYI).

With a Bow though you can attack them from 20 feet away so you wouldn't have to move. This is something that wasn't intended but when they looked at it they were like: "Yeah I guess that's how it works".

So with Combat Patrol, Improved Snap Shot and +20BAB you'd threaten 30 feet with your bow ... Meanwhile an Enlarged Aberrant Bloodrager with Longarm cast wielding a reach weapon with +20BAB and Combat Patrol you'd have 50 foot reach, and you'd be able to attack 30 feet away without moving.

(I'll see if I can find that dev post for you)

Ah, I see. I was wondering if there was an FAQ or something that explained that it works the way you're describing but couldn't find such a thing.
