Elemental Sorcerer - which element?

Happy new year!

I'm making an elf elemental bloodline Sorcerer and I need advice on which elemental type to pick.
I'm playing in a Age of Ashes AP.

*My gm has clarified that the produce flame spell/burning hands etc can actually generate/gather the given element. Meaning I can produce water, earth, fire or air.

All 4 elements have their pros and cons and I'm really torn on which element I should be going for...

Any advice?


Age of Ashes...choose water. :)

Water's not the "best" element necessarily, but it is thematic and not an easy damage type to access. At the very least, avoid fire.

That said, the player's guide should have more aid than others can give, assuming they don't advise based on specific knowledge of the AP.

Thanks. I was thinking water might be good too. Especially given that water is harder to come by then fire damage. Also useful for putting out fires.

I did read the player's guide, but it was light on which classes are good. The whole section on classes was just 1 to 2 paragraphs. (irc)

I hadn't meant the portion on classes which IMO shouldn't advise a preference except in specific campaigns, i.e. pirates or a Thieves' Guild or to give warning if animals/spellbooks/etc. are hindered in play.

I mean the story portion or perhaps the Backgrounds (which can gives clues to useful future abilities & story arcs).
You're going to be (assuming you invest in Con) w/ this PC for a long time, so you should like its personality & motives as much or more than its mechanics (which have little wiggle room anyway in PF2 in terms of power). Depending on play preference, of course, though w/ a Cha-based PC, I'd expect you to be RPing more than most.

I would suggest changing the Granted spells depending on the Elemental ancestry. The change is listed in my House Rules document, and it goes like this:

Elemental Sorcerers: Replace their Granted Spells with the following, chosen by their Element Type

Fire: Cantrip: Produce Flame 1st: Burning Hands 2nd: Flaming Sphere 3rd: Fireball 4th: Wall of Fire 5th: Elemental Form 6th: Fire Seeds 7th: Fiery Body 8th: Prismatic Wall 9th: Storm of Vengeance

Air: Cantrip: Electric Arc 1st: Gust of Wind 2nd: Obscuring Mist 3rd: Wall of Wind 4th: Gaseous Form 5th: Cloudkill 6th: Chain Lightning 7th: Reverse Gravity 8th: Wind Walk 9th: Storm of Vengeance

Earth: Cantrip: Telekinetic Projectile 1st: Shillelagh 2nd: Acid Arrow 3rd: Meld Into Stone 4th: Shape Stone 5th: Wall of Stone 6th: Flesh to Stone 7th: Volcanic Eruption 8th: Earthquake 9th: Storm of Vengeance

Water: Cantrip: Ray of Frost 1st: Hydraulic Push 2nd: Water Breathing 3rd: Feet to Fins 4th: Hydraulic Torrent 5th: Wall of Ice 6th: Repulsion 7th: Energy Aegis 8th: Polar Ray 9th: Storm of Vengeance

The listed spells are (IMHO) much more thematic than simply a reskinned Burning Hands or Fireball.

As for which Element you should choose, that's really just a matter of choice. Certain elements will be more helpful than others at different AoA chapters. Happy New Year!
